[dev1056] An exercise in redundancy.

I don't think we need large 3D text effects telling us what kind of party we have.

The fact that we have two kinds of Comradery buff effects for the party is enough to tell us what kind of party we have.

0-3 Party Members = No buff

4-7 Party members = Buff

8 Party Members = Max buff

Easy enough. This isn't Hello Kitty Online.

I dunno... sometimes I don't know how to count. Very exciting. ;-)

I'm not complaining. An addition is an addition. NOW what they need is huge txts for debuff effects, and for indicators of what long-cast skill the enemy is using, instead of having it just show up in chat log.

They're a tad unnecessary but letting them stay causes no harm. This didn't really need its own topic.

There hadn't been a thread discussing it yet, so I decided to put it up.

It really is redundant...

What was the point of implementing it, other than pointing out the obvious?

There must be technical problems they aren't telling us about. Speculation, but still... all things considering.

I know that some people like playing in dull, boring, unexciting games, constantly stressing and pulling their hair out over trying to accomplish the most simplest of tasks, but honestly... The 3D text makes joining a party more exciting, it's not necessarily redundant at all. Have you ever played WoW? I remember when they added all the exciting "redundant" level up effects and such I felt 10x more awesome when doing the most simple tasks, such as gaining level 2.

The 3D text doesn't negatively impact anyone's gameplay, only egos. Enjoy it because a new player might buy the game, log in, join a party, see this big text and go "whoa! That's kinda neat!" because it's these things that will bring SE money down the line and support the future of the game.

complaining about redundant things = redundant in it's own right.
What would be MORE redundant would be removing the redundant thing due to it's redundancy. Which would provide more redundancy because then the act of putting it in to begin with is now redundant!

You don't need a text nor caption nor audio log telling you you've completed your mission or tasks in various offline games, you should know you've completed it once you've killed your last enemy/gained last item.

There's no such thing as redundancy unless it's the same system, which in this case it doesn't pop up a display text telling you:

"1 Party member added!"

"2 Party members added!"

Then you'd have an argument.

And yet it's not disrupting, or changing anything at all. Plus, it's something new to look at in game. Probably a good thing to complain about, though.... Yeah.

From what I understand, the text will only flash across the screen when your party reaches the appropriate size.

Is this really something worth complaining about, or getting snarky over?

Is it needed? No, probably not. Is it going to hurt the game at all? No, definitely not.

I, for one, don't mind the animation. In fact, I think it's kind of neat, and it plays a cute little sound, haha. And the "Light/Full Party" text and icon on your party members list is a nice little touch.

Seriously there are worst things in the world to complain about then a simple graphic meant to make the game more exciting.
