This question got me thinking really. Why on earth are you calling them EU servers/Realms/Worlds or whatever you call them. When In fact they are based In CANADA. A big country above AMERICA. EUROPE Is on the other side of the world. Am I really just being too picky or do I have a point? :eek:
Secondly. If they are called EU for a reason are there any plans to move them to EUROPEAN servers? Which would squash this thread.

EU servers are meant for people that want to play with others of their same time zone not that they based in EU

Personally mine is anywhere from 300-900ms at any given time. And I can still play just fine. -

Cost has a lot to do with it. All 25 of JPs worlds are in one datacenter. That's efficient and cost effective. They get the same thing from the NA datacenter which they went out of their way to put in Montreal rather than Squeenix HQ in California (they bought Eidos) so they were as close to Europe as possible. If they had set up a European datacenter then they would have had to purchase ANOTHER facility and man it and given the current split that would be a datacenter with 7 active worlds...that would probably require almost the same manpower to run as the current 27 world NA datacenter. They obviously decided the investment just wouldn't be worth it simply for the time zone convenience. (Ping issues from Europe to NA should be minimal on a decent ISP unless running content alongside an NA player)

They said it many many times before that the EU servers are not based in EU. They are recommended for EU players so that they can play together and have the same time zone for events. That is all. And it is mixed because of the obvious character creation limitations atm. There are JP servers now that are designated EN servers.
