Why do level 96+ monsters exist currently in game?

This makes no sense to me, the cap is 50 yet there are way too many mobs that are level 90+ which makes exploring impossible without getting 1-shot no matter what level you are.

I understand the level cap is going to eventually increase but I just don't get the weird levels these mobs have.

Mobs that are 50+ are to fight in partys even FFXI had mobs that where 75+ you needed a full party and good set up to fight. So yes we still need them but they should lower the level down to meet the party size maybe 60-80 would do.

its very simple really, level 50 was just the initial cap, it was probably supposed to last 2 months tops, so they wanted people to be able to see the stuff they would soon be able to fight. However they put all expansion/content of the game on hold when they changed thier development plan, in all honesty, we were probably supposed to have had our second major patch update, on the 3 month cycle they used to use in ffxi, and probably planned to do here.

But... in FFXI... every mob needed a group past level 12 lol. even if it was an "Easy challange". like there was these monster that said "Easy Challange" and you were level 30. that monster was NOT an easy challange whatsoever.

I'll agree and not agree See as a BST i can fight IT without issue and you really did not need more then 6 to fight a IT in FFXI even before the update of cap rise you could fight Serket with 2 players and that harder then any IT in the game.

I even solo with THF,SAM,MONK,WAR on EP and VT and sometimes some type of IT. I did not find noting wrong with FFXI level system with the mobs as long as you know what you doing you had no issue.

3 reasons....

1. To increase the number of different types of MOBs in the game
2. As a teaser of things to come
and 3. to create natural boundaries and keep you out of places where there is no reason to go yet (i.e. Sandgate, Scorpion Keep, Gelmorra Ruins, The Lance, etc...) for lack of content. Of course you can still get there if you're careful... ;)

That is because there were some OP factors in some of the class, mainly BST. and I dont know if they changed it, but it certainly wasnt that way 3 or so years ago when I quit. If i could solo past level 12 then and not have to be a BST, I would still be playing it.

I solo on my THF to 15 o.o and my monk also my warrior. BLM, and RDM was pretty easy now whm is a pain and i would never try to solo at low level at least.

Prior to Chains of Promethia? I started playing it with its US release when it only had the base and the first expansion. Solo play was non-exsistant back then. You couldn't even pick what server you wanted to be on back then.....

Not at the start of FFXI, the highest level mobs in the game at release when the cap was 50 were Roc, Serket, Simurgh and those were roughly level 62-65 needing a full alliance to kill. I could understand that because those were HNM designed for 18 players.

A full party of 50's would get 1 shot by a level 96 mob in XIV. You can safely take mobs 10-12 levels higher than you even solo in XIV(depending on mob type). Anything above 12 levels would be a tough stretch, level correction/damage calculations start getting really whacky when mob difference is atleast 20 levels higher. I saw a level 78 clipper crap hit a level 48 conj for 1732 damage, 1 shotting him, I don't suspect 2 levels would have made any difference.

Those Red Clipper Crabs are beasts >.> it was hard enough to tank them in a group of 6. That same group I was in tried a Storm Biast. INSTANT wipeout. Once you out-rank normal NM, its pretty hard to get killed by them solo (Not including da goblin, broken encounter >.>)

Not all.. but there are some high level MOBs (R75-79 Maned Wyrmhound for instance) that can be taken down by a group of 8 Rank 50's with a little strategy. A lot less HP than Uraeus and hit for about the same.... Thats the highest I've seen that can be legitimately killed.

They are to keep people out of certain areas or to make it more challenging to get there. Also for future use when the level cap increases.

My linkshell and I have killed lvl 98 mobs in a party of 8. They're not all that strong, honestly.

No, I don't lie.
We killed lvl 98 goblins without relying on a punishing barb zombie tactic.
We also killed the 83 Basilisks with 3 people.

Oh, zombie tactic....

Ok, I will go engage one of those r98 monsters. and if it hits me for more than 2076 damage, im callin you out. I have already heard of the rainbow Basilisk hitting full tank Gladiators for 2000+...

A group in my LS farmed Gold Dust off the Rank 90-99 Goblin Headmans last week. We got some sweet looking Red Magnifiers from synthing the Gold Dust.

All in all, not that difficult. Just took some strategy and a lot of awesomeness.
