Item transfer between characters on same account

We're not allowed to directly mail items to characters on the same account. If I'm not mistaken the point of disabling this feature is to reduce RMT.

Then can we just have a friend act as a proxy and send us our items? Will that flag our accounts for RMT or anything?

I don't understand how mailing items to a character on the same account increases the possibility of RMT. I personally didn't know this restriction was in place since having two characters on the same server seems extremely redundant when you can do everything on one character. Regardless, letting a friend hold on to a few items or having them send you materials/items shouldn't flag you unless either of you work/interacted with someone who would cast suspicion.

I wanted to know the same thing. Really annoying. I created an alt for variation and I'm being punished for it. As I recall, I'm permitted more than 1 character so why is SE working so hard to undermine that? Between the two characters I want to learn all classes but it doesn't do much good if I can't transfer items between characters.

Also not sure how it has anything to do with RMT.

I agree... I was making a second character to stockpile my less used gathered items... but as i can't befriend my 2 character i'm "forced" to use a friend "of confiance" to transfer items from my main to my secondary character...
I have some friend that plays so it will not be a great problem to ask them to create a secondary character where i could send a hiundred of mail full of "junk" items but it will be painfull...

It stops RMT Moogle Mail spam. They can't just send a million mails to random people without being on their friends list.

I too am upset by this restriction (not the spamming, the mailing to alts). I am an avid crafter and hoarder. 2 retainers fill up fast. I wish SE would think about this and respond and let us know what is up. We either need access to our own alts or a shared bank section that we can trade between our characters.

I'm more annyoed with the lack of same account mailing to each other because of the simple fact that you can't generate gil personally in order to fuel level 50 dungeoning. You'll go broke. Before people say sell on the Market Board, yes yes I know. I was meaning the ingame economy. General gameplay endgame WITHOUT quests won't cover teleport and repair costs.

So guess what? If you're broke, only way to personally make more money without using market and taking money from others who don't know any better atm until they add dailies is making a NEW character and doing all quests from 1 - 50 for that extra 300k. BUT you can't mail it to your main character.

Unless they have strong diligent people watching RMT is going to happen unfortunately. We can only send mail to people on out friend's list...how hard is it to add an rmt as a friend? But we can't mail to our own characters...doesn't seem well thought out to me but I could be wrong.

Couldn't you just make a guild with your alts and just use the bank to transfer everything?

Ugh, I hate not being able to trade items between my characters. There are so many ways they could do this -- a cross-character bank, shared retainers, allowing us to mail characters on the same account. They clearly allow players to have more than one character per server. They even make us pay extra for the privilege. And yet, as they welcome us with one hand, SE uses the other to slap us in the face.

I have an alt, mainly because I like the change from time to time. I like having a different race/appearance, and I like specializing in a different range of classes/crafting on each character. I don't have a ton of items to constantly trade back and forth, but once in a while I'd like to be able to craft some gear for the other character, or swap materials. Obviously, being able to do so would offer me no advantage over other players -- anyone who just has the one character already has access to 100% of their items at all times.

I know this game emphasizes mastering all classes on a single character, but you can encourage that without discouraging those of us who like to play a different way. Denying us a reliable method of cross-character storage/trade seems arbitrarily dismissive and mean-spirited.

I've been able to trade a few items a couple of times by "laundering" them through my FC's bank. The process involves:
1) On the first character, go stand in front of the FC bank. Log out.
2) On the second character, go stand in front of the FC bank. Log out.
3) Back on the first character, find some empty item slots in the FC bank (if there are any) and drop in a few items. Log out.
4) On the second character, find those items in the FC bank immediately and remove them.

This is in no way an acceptable, reliable, or long-term solution. For one thing, if you had a whole guild of people doing this, it just wouldn't be possible. The bank would be a mess, and people would mix up their items. It also runs the risk of having your items stolen (intentionally or not) by other FC members. If you want to do this at all, you have to make the transaction on both ends immediately, and not just leave stuff in there for a while and get to it when it's "convenient." Also, the amount of stuff you can swap back and forth is likely limited to a few essential items. The more you've got, the more potential for complications. At the very least, all this item swapping is probably going to look odd to your guild leader/treasurer (not sure if they can track bank transactions, but I assume they can).

Would it be so terrible, to just optionally share a retainer between characters?

I just simply don't believe that not mailing your own alts is any real deterrent to RMT. All it does is make those of us who enjoy using alts or who have a tendency to gather beyond our inventories extremely reliant on a horribly designed player economy market to sell extra materials, and then have to buy them later when we need them. UGH. Poor design poorly executed on the economy SE.

can't you just create and FC and use its bank?

This could have to do with using mail to launder gil and make it a lot harder to trace or something.

I too would love it if I could send items to my alts. Yes, I know one avatar can do everything, but I enjoy having multiple, specialized characters. Freshens up gameplay a bit.

Not being able to share items between my characters -- especially stuff that one wouldn't need, but the other does, as, say, a crafter -- frustrates me. It's a smallish issue, I suppose, but right now it seems like a pointless restriction, and one that limits my enjoyment of the game. Solutions: enable friending of a player's own characters (perhaps this could be automatic, to get around both parties needing to be online), an account-wide bank vault (I like someone's suggestion of accessing it in an inn room), or allowing a retainer to send things between alts (perhaps through other retainers). The last two might help with the gold/gil-sellers problem, as you have to be a certain level to use them.

I was planning on paying for a standard subscription (instead of entry) until I found out that it's impossible to mail items to my own alts on the same server. What's the point of having alts if you can't mail them anything?

So basically there is no point to sub the standard, best to just pay for the basic one, 1 character per server, since you cannot mail items between characters on the same account. Whose idea is this..... even on FFXI you can send items between characters on the same account...

This has made me Craaazyyy... If anything if they wish to keep it where you can only mail friends you should be able to add people who are offline... like your Alts... Right now I'm buddy buddy with an FC member that is my middleman... and I feel bad for asking them when I need to mail stuff to myself.. and its only for crafts and armor... >:( frustration... setting in!

I'd like it if they somehow made an account mail, like Neverwinter had, or some kind of account wide storage, like many other games. Or maybe have our alts show up on our mailing list. I don't see how having any of those things would increase RMT or mail spam if that's the issue. ♥

Since you must accept friend requests, why not fix this by allowing friend requests to be sent to offline players? I could then send a friend request to my alt, accept it on my alt, and we're good to go.

Same here. Currently, the only incentive to paying for multiple months is that those interested in role playing can stay with their community and the rest of us can get earlier access to the veteran rewards. I don't mind waiting on the rewards and have no interest in role playing, so it's useless to have two characters on the same server.

The best fix for this would be what Thodoll suggested and allow us to send friend requests to people that are offline. Yet, those of us who would have had multiple characters will likely stick to one now as it's be a pain to relevel crafting or gathering classes. The only immediate plus would be getting all the Gil you could earn via quest rewards, but at this point, that time would be better spent selling goods on the market board (unless the economy were to tank, of course).

This is a major issue. We need account wide retainer for characters on same server, or the ability to friend our own alts offline. This must be in the first patch. You have no idea how many long term players will leave your game over this one thing.

"But you can do everything on one character" people need leave no comment. I could paint everything in my house red if I wanted to. I could have a more intelligent conversation with a guppy.

I'm really pissed off on this also not being able to mail my own damned characters. I have been grinding away on crafts in hopes of pimping out other characters as they level and just found out I can't even mail my own alt on my own account. This is beyond stupidity by the devs and really just says f*** you to especially any crafter. Many crafters don't craft for markets in mmo's but for personal use and they utterly killed that aspect.

I only have the one character but as he is around 40 in all crafting and gathering jobs I am rapidly running out of storage space. I can sympathise with those who have created alt mules to try and solve the problem. Personally I would settle for a third retainer even if I had to pay extra for the privilege.

Its not about more storage space. For a lot its about alts I'd think as it is for me. Sure I can do everything on 1 toon but I'd still prefer having different toons and not have to level crafting on all of them for what I need. Since I started I envisioned myself 1 heavy male melee / tank type toon, 1 light spirited female bard/archer type toon, and 1 female elven sort caster type toon. The goal as with many for crafting is making stuff for their own characters including alts yet this is ruined completely as you can't even mail crap to yourself. Its an easy fix but as usual Devs in MMO's don't really listen to players. And all those spammers they are trying to avoid just spend random tells to people anyways. I get them relatively frequently.

I concurr, I truly believe that adding the facility to send someone/your alt a friend request while they are offline would make so much of a difference and allow us all to utilize our alts for the purposes we need.

I've been thinking about playing multiple characters for a while, so I was creating a character for the Lightning event. I like/want the Lightning attire, and… well… I have a male character. aka "You CAN'T do everything with one character."

If I am to play multiple characters, I want to send items/gil to them, but I guess I am going to weigh my options and see if I want to work around this money grubbing decision or just deal with the restrictive multi-character play. Guess if I buy a separate account, I can meld for them too, and yet… it's more money per month. Decisions decisions.

edit: Idea! Make retainers available between characters on the same account! If a character is banned for RMT, it's the account that gets banned, which include the retainers. This sounds like a suitable solution to keeping RMTs restricted while catering to player needs.

Indeed, having the option of multiple characters becomes a lot less attractive if our characters can't help each other along. There needs to be some way to create an account-specific "drop-box", whether it's a shared retainer, the (currently under-utilized) Armoire, or Moogle Mail. As others have stated, if RMT is the issue, that can be handled in other ways.

I see that this is related to my other current annoyance: not being able to send a friend request to a PSN acquaintance who just started the game, if I can't catch her online. I had been wondering why this was a problem. Now I understand that it's not a bug -- it's a policy. An unfortunate one, IMO.

Why not just make retainer inventories shared between characters?

I would say the reason is because they want to take up as much of your time as possible. Considering it's pay to play and all. Time is money.
