New Race Options: Beastmen

Now before everyone gets upset about how other things need to be focused on, this could be later down the road, even after ps3 release (though sooner is always better).

While I am pleasantly suprised by this news, I would still like new race options. Just like many FFXI players have always wanted male mithra and such. I have always wanted to play as a Goblin.

I would like to request the addition of friendly/neutral playable beastmen races. The bigger meaner beastmen wouldn't make any sense, but I can't see much reason not to have playable Goblin and Qiqirn races. And I think it helps that I am not asking for brand new freshly designed races, but existing races that are already in the game and have character models.

Now I know that there are other problems that could get in the way of this like having to design clothing around there odder body shapes or maybe even classes...................... But to be honest, I would even be OK with very basic class options like Goblins only have 1 fighting class or 1 magic class or mining class or armorer class. Or having very limited clothing/armor options. Of course I would prefer them to have the same choices as other races, but I could live with it.

The point is that I would like the implementaion of playable Goblin and Qiqirn races at some future date. I would be a dream come true, and I am pretty sure their are other players that don't like playing pretty/cute races and would prefer something a bit more BEASTLY.

I'd like to hear other peoples opinions about this? Are ther others who crave to play as a beastman for the goodguys? Please don't bother responding, if its about how other things need to be concentrated on first. I realize that and am clearly asking for something in the future.

I can get on board with this, I think. Goblin and Qiqirn are beastly, but not too beastly, if that makes sense. I like the look and feel of the playable races. I'm not sure how I would feel if the went too far out of that zone, like if they added bigger nastier races than Goblin and Qiqirn. I support adding these to races, as long as they do it correctly. Though, I can't say the same if people wanted more nastier looking races. But, that is just my tastes.

So yeah, I think these two races would be pretty cool. I feel that they aren't needed, especially if they are adding the ones they are hinting at. But, if there are enough people that want them, then why not?

Yea thats pretty much all I meant. Unless there are some other friendly/neutral beastmen I dont know about? But yea just Goblins and Qiqirn. It would be fun, and an interesting option. Thanks for the support.

I mean, there is like 1 Goblin NPC around at most, but it wouldnt fit much if a bunch of those walked around, it'd look like the cities been taken over by Beasts... lol

There are plenty of Qiqirn in Limsa, so what about them? I think it fits fine with these two races in particular, because they are neutral race: meaning they could be good or bad. There are friendly Qiqirn in Limsa, but then there are some non-friendlies outside of Limsa. Besides, there is the Garlean Empire, so you know there are bad humanoids. So if there can be good and bad humanoids in the game, why cant there be some good and bad beastmen.

It doesn't feel right.... Goblins have been labeled as wild monsters ever since FF1, it would be weird to see them as friendly players, let alone have their own jobs like white mage, samurai, etc. I think the current race selection is fine.

get some race from FFXII or FFTA would be cool. but they can do this much later after other important stuffs get fixed first.

I like this idea actually. Bangaa, moogles, viera as playable races sounds indeed cool. Qiqirn MIGHT work, but I can't imagine goblins.

I want a freaking playable race with a horn on their forehead already! >_<

FFXI had a lot of friendly Goblin NPCs, and a couple that even helped out in quests. And the non-friendly ones in FFXI DID have jobs. whm, thf, blm, war, etc. Other than that I am inclined to agree with you on them being always wild mosnsters. Still though, I don't think thats much of a reason not to have them. Thats like me saying there shouldn't be playable Moogles because they are too fuzzy. I am also not saying there is anything wrong with the current race selection, I like them just fine. But why limit your options? Maybe the devs see an idea like this and think, "screw that, we have more important things to do, and you will live with what you have". Maybe they say " sure we can add in a few new races later on".

I know there are more important things the devs are focussed on, and they can work on those. However, later on when more things are fixed and we have a lot of new content. I see no harm in adding more variety, even if its not beastmen races. However, aside from my desire to play as a Goblin, I choose beastmen because they already exist in the game. I think that would be easier to implement than brand new races that don't even exist in the game such as Bangaa. But hell for that matter why not add in several new races from the tactics series and beastmen. Variety is the spice of life.

The game currently has humans, tall pointy-eared humans, big humans, even bigger blue and red humans, a minature race, and cat eared n tailed humans. Not everyon has the same tastes, and some of us would like to make a monster-like or beast-like character instead of a cute/sexy/handsome character.

Did you knew the gobs in FFXI with the armor on there head was really female beastman gobs? at least that what i been told and if you look at them they somewhat do look like female now the rest of the beastman lol i guess they just don't have females lol

They did! In fact you could tell with some NM Goblins by the suffix of their name.

I'd prefer races from in the game universe instead of from Ivalice.

As such Goblin and Quririnrinrin make the best choices for now. Id like to see how goblins look wearing some of the armors we have like Cowls and armor helms. It would probably end up looking like they took the armor Goblins already have and just remeshed the texture to fit those model meshes.

I wouldn't stop playing my Roegadyn to play another race or new sex...

I also would be hesitant to roleplay with Goblin and Qiqirn races when I pass one through my travels. I don't understand how they... Wut? It hurts my head just thinking about it. It is going to be very confusing joining a party of Goblins to kill goblins or a party of qiqirns to kill qiqirns. I can't imagine things going smoothly.

Is there going to be all new armor specific to these two types of races? ... I'm not too sure I like this idea. I'm willing to accept it and let it happen, but I'm not to sure I'm going to like what I see.

And... Aren't Qiqirns sort of mistreated in this game? I saw one in Limsa Lominsa that was sort of a slave or something on one of the pirate ships...

As for the Roegadyn female... I can't imagine her looking pretty (attractive), but I hope you can pull it off.

If it becomes a playable beastman vs playable human-like character world in this game it's going to require a ****-ton of content to achieve. I'm not saying it's impossible for any of this, but keep in mind what it being asked for.

Wont the beastman race be like wow lol evil vs good? even if some beastman are good there still beastman and not one of the 5 race in eorzea so wanting beastman would = a diff life. i mean how could you really make any beastman into a race you could play that just dreaming.

Actually I would say gear obtained currently wouldn't suit either Goblins or Qiqirns. There are other beastmen races that would better qualify for this but I highly doubt we will ever see that implemented.

Nah, its not that hard to imagine. Goblins and Qiqirn can be pretty friendly and funny at times. And no, I definately don't mean a good vs evil thing like in WoW. Goblins and Qiqirn would just be mercenaries fighting on the side of one of the three nations with no real affiliation with other beast tribes nor the Garlean Empire. A perspective like that could work.

That might be pretty fun, if enough content is produced and if system functionality is working enough to implement a feature like PvP, it might be kinda cool.

Humans, lalafell, elezen, etc. vs Goblins, qiqirn, orcs, yagudo, quadav (lol just saying), but it'd be interesting.

I am SO behind this, ever since XI I wanted to be a goblin, yagudo or orc, hell even the dark kindred! I doubt it will happen but I'd scream like a giddy schoolgirl if it did. :P

Its actually more common then you would think, in XI there were plenty of goblin npcs that worked with the locals of vanadiel (Gobby bag shop goblins, dyna glass, random item shop and above all the one from the main storyline) and aswell as quqirn (look around Whitegate almost more of them then us)

I don't think I want to see people playing as beastmen. The goblins and such that we trade with are rare exceptions to an otherwise violent struggle. It would take a lot away from the continuity of the FF series to have players as beastmen.

I would love to see more beastmen enemies though.

i would like to see some new races that don't look like humans wearing animal ears.
Beast-men would be fine, even the large beastmen. Why not? they look cool.
Of course there should be a new starting city for beastmen (maybe some underground city)

The whole lore of the game is based on the fact that beastmen very rarely mix with the current races (and only goblins at that). So no, I wouldn't like to see numerous beastmen walking around the cities.

Besides, we have plenty races already. MUCH better to use resources to implement content everyone would enjoy, than to create new races very few would be interested in anyway.

PS: To implement large beastmen they'd have to redesign a large number of the game's doors.

You might be right that very few would be interested, but I bet there would be more than you would think that just don't like these "pretty" races. Now the Highlanders and Roegs at least do look more intimidating than a ball of kittens, but not enough. Thats why I said some of the beastmen, and it wouldnt be a huge waste of resources because the models for the beastmen already exist. So its not like asking them to invent/create all new races. Also, I have said this could be something implemented later down the road. Perhaps after PS3 release. So far the only real complaint I have heard is that it would not be aesthetically pleasing to some people............ thats a really lame reason. Thats like me saying don't implement Seedseers because they have horns, and I don't like having horns. I guess what I was really looking for is actual reasons that beastmen couldnt be implemented as a playable race (like what Abriael said about redesigning doors), not nay sayers that just don't like it. What are the technical limitations, and are there any ways to overcome them?
