Hey, can my friends and I play together now?

Like so many others, I purchased Final Fantasy XIV to play with my friends. More than a week after launch, half of the group STILL cannot make characters on our server. I'm not here to complain about login difficulties or the current 3201 error issues. I just want to play the game with my friends. I convinced most of them to buy the game, and it's becoming extremely difficult for me to defend this game and this company.

This morning, one of my roommates asked me why he should even care about Final Fantasy XIV anymore. He paid for it, and he can't play it. You know what? I couldn't give him an answer. It's a great game, but if you can't play it with your friends when that's the express purpose of a multiplayer game, then why care?

I love FFXIV, and I've been patient, but I'm approaching the point that I may soon begin to pursue a refund in a very vigorous and loud manner.

I'm in the same position as you right now.
I have real-friends playing on my server right now, and I've invited my other friends to join me but the second group cannot come into the same server. Now I'm caught between the stones... what can I do? Should I ask the 2nd group to start on the new server so I can character transfer over, and tell my 1st group of friends that I'm ditching them 'cuz it's the way it has to be?

SE should implement a NPC that hands out limited server invite code, which you can give to your friends so that they can join the server.

I have real friends that are all on different servers because of the server lockout. We are all 20 plus and don't want to re-roll another character again. (a few have played betas)
We are a patient group and know you're all working hard, but it's getting about that time. We'd like to play together.

20+ takes like 3-4 hours of grinding. If you want to play together, you can go do it now as many servers are open.

I'll admit that I had convinced quite a few people to get XIV, and these are Legacy players, too. See, I was in the beta for 1.0 and I spent my time discouraging people from getting it because it was so terrible. But I was so impressed with what they had done to the game this go around that I had a hard time containing myself (I just mentioned how much I was enjoying myself). Now I can't even create alts on the servers they are on because they've been locked out on new characters since Early Access. And they can't make characters on the server I play on because it, too, is also on the list of restricted servers. I've even tried making a character on a server not on the list only to get the message that the server isn't allowing new characters.

I love this game, I really do. This game is enjoyable when you can get on, but I'm having a hard time convincing friends to stick around because we can't play with each other.

The server you play on was open for character creation several times on and off since maintenance.

It's now on the list of servers with character restrictions. As well as the servers I have friends on. The list can be found Here.

Yeah my server is back on the list too, was off the list this morning, but by the time I pinged my friends about it, they'd already left for work for the day.. sigh.. I hope I can get them on our server, there is no way I'm convincing a dozen legacy players to start over.

I started with a group of 5 people on leviathan. However, on friend could not make a character. So do you know what we did? Instead of complaining, we all logged on together at the same time to see which servers were open and we just all rerolled. All of us have been able to get on every night without TOO much trouble.

Sure I understand rerolling with your entire FC doesn't work, but eventually you are going to prioritize. So what if I ditched my character and my fc, real life friends are 100x more important than my personal inconvenience.

not only are they locking out character creation, so those of us that have friends that want to play with us, can't, they are also marketing service accounts with a payment option, that says that i can make 8 characters on each sever, but i cannot i only have one and that's because i created it in 1.0... get your heads out of your ass SE, not only do you need to allow friends to play with friends, but you also need to leave room for those who are paying to have more than one character.
Your servers suck shit, and we told you that in beta, Numerous threads were made warning you that your servers were inadequate, and you blew them off every time.

During phase 3 testers complained that you had timers on dungeons, your response was that it was to reduce server load, red flag #1.

During phase 4 congestion was already so high that people had to roll on servers with out friends, and we warned you again that your servers needed to be upgraded, your response nothing, red flag # 2

Now you only add 3 extra servers, really 3... and where are the free server transfers that people so obviously assumed that you would offer... silence again that's what i thought...

so yeah i keep reading threads that say give them time, they are working on it, well the fact is they knew in beta (even designed dungeons with a timer in anticipation of this problem), they new on EA day, they damn well knew on release day... they have had time, they need to respond with more than 3 servers, people need to get fired at SE again... when Yoshi is forced to commit seppuku by the SE ceo, i hope they air that shit on youtube, so everyone can see.

I bought this game to play with friends as well. I am going on 5 days now and still unable to join their server even after this long maintenance that I believed was supposed to fix this. I understand the login queue and the abundance of people that want to play, that is great. But the fact that I cannot even wait to login and then create a character to join my friends is getting a bit infuriating. The character creation process in this game is completely backwards from what most of us are used to in other MMO's where once you are logged in you can create a character and viola you are in.

Something needs to change I really want to play with my friends on Cactuar and I am sure many other people want to play with friends on their servers. You guys need to allow people to login to the server first then create a character so that everyone can have the opportunity to play with friends and then the server cap and login limit can still exist and everyone can go on their merry way.

Well its like camping next to the com waiting for the restrictions to be lifted, which should not be considered viable. All my friends were able to join me last night for the brief open period...leveling the third time, but thats the price of playing with friends in this game atm.

Your solution would be waiting for xfer, or all reroll on the new server. While not ideal, but thats how you all gona play together, as much as we want to blame SE its not gona help your cause in the time being.

Just to add, an official announcement on server xfer and how that will be restricted by the current overloaded worlds would certainly provide some information for people to allow them decide how they wana overcome this issue.

Is Exodus still on the "can't create new characters" list?

Re-rolling would be an option if all the NA servers were open to character creation. As of 5:05 PM PST all NA servers are closed to character creation.

I say this as I have a friend who wants to join me yet they can not

Some friends and I decided that re-rolling on the new server would likely be best since we have not had a chance to play together yet. A couple made their characters earlier in the day. I just got home from work and now even the brand new NA server is locked for character creation. Only ones available on the NA/EU Datacenter are the two newest EU servers.
