Why is my Shield Bash affected by GCD? Terrible design.

I love my PLD, but this mechanic really takes a huge chunk of usefulness and fun out of stunning/interrupting a cast.

In order to have a shot at doing my job (preventing/mitigating damage), I have to stop doing my -most- important job: generating enmity, because I might get stuck in the global cooldown, helplessly spamming my Shield Bash as the enemy casts. Shield Bash is a great idea, but the GCD renders it frequently useless and impotent.

Forcing a tank to stop all actions and wait for a cast is not only inefficient, but also takes skill, reaction time and situational awareness out of the equation. It's just bad design. I hope to see this change in the future.

Initially I disliked Shield Bash being on GCD but after playing as a PLD through many runs of Admapor I have decided it's much better this way.

Shield Bash on GCD gives Paladin identity as a stun tank! Would you rather only stun every 30 minutes like Warrior? Pah!

Watch your enemy. They only use abilities after a melee attack. I'm sure you can work your actions around that, I know I can

I found that Shield Swipe's Pacification effect nullifies an interruptable AOE even though they complete their casting sequence. Perhaps switch to a shield with a higher block rate than amount blocked to trigger this more often in battle.

It forces you to make a decision: start that chain well knowing you might be unable to interrupt a powerful move; or play it save.
There are far too few things that force you to decide between two approaches in modern MMOs anyway.

That's helpful. I didn't know that:

1) the cast always comes after a melee attack

2) Pacification will affect something already in mid-cast

This is why you have an off-global version called Low Blow. If you want to stun more frequently than that, it forces you to weigh whether it is worth the damage loss. There are little to no situations where it is and I've only done it once when the healer couldn't keep up, dps was low and all of my cooldowns were used in an ARR dungeon. We had less mitigation less frequently then as well.

Any cast that really needs interrupting (glowing orange) should be interruptable with your interrupt ability which is also off-global. Any cast shorter than 3 seconds is probably too short to interrupt successfully and not worth bothering with.

I cannot help but laugh at gathering aggro. Once you have aggro outside of another tank voking, or you going afk for a decent amount of time good luck losing aggro.

Though having two ogcd stuns would be lit.

this was a thread from 2013

When I tried paladin at first I was like shield bash was nuts then I found out it was on GCD and thought it felt awkward and it was nay unusable. But now I think it be OP with no GCD since any stunable mob would effectively be stun locked the whole fight.

How many pages back did you have to dig for this revival!? Also I forget about Shield Bash I’ll be honest, unless I’m in lower leveled content.

Necromancer will not be a class, stop trying to demonstrate it.

Shield bash on the GCD is dumb, but you don't actually need it. You have an oGCD that stuns.
