chocobo rank grindfest. problem?

So I don't know if anyone has discovered something to the contrary, but my experience thus far with chocobo rank leveling has been painful. Even at the lowest ranks an insane amount of exp is required, which can only be gleaned from combat (no fates or quests).

Also, because DF doesn't allow you to have your companion out, companion use is pretty limited.

Anyone else feeling this is all a bit off?

I have noticed this also. I love using my chocoho but it is so crazy to do a bunch of fights only to see his xp has not moved.

it does take a lot but i guess its nice that something in this game isnt just feed to us like most things seem to be

honestly, the chocobo companion in it's current state feels worthless. if you have it out you can't mount it unless you dismiss it and waste a gysahl green. you can't queue for duties while it's out. it takes an absurd amount of time to level, for something that is hardly needed in the first place. i played around with the chocobo companion a bit at 30, realized it was poorly implemented and not remotely needed, and ditched it.

you don't really ever need to sit there and massacre mobs in droves in this game outside of FATES (which you'll want to RIDE your chocobo to get to before they're done), so it just feels like there's a huge disconnect there.

if we could be on a mount and have it out thatd be alot better to like putting it away mount go somewhere whip it out repeat so annoying why cant we just have a pet system instead jesus

It levels much faster with a low level class equipped.

I don't think getting your chocobo to rank 10 in a day is what they had in mind when this feature was added. I used my companion chocobo while farming over a couple days and got it to rank 4. I think that is pretty fast when you compare it to say FF11's chocobo digging where it took well over a year of daily digging to rank up the hidden chocobo stat.

I personally love using my chocobo companion. On my level 20something arcanist with Topaz Carby, we can kill things endlessly in droves. When farming, I can kill things faster and have some light healing backups.

While sure, there are some things that could be improved like allowing the chocobo to stay out while Duty finder is active, or being able to ride another mount while leaving the chocobo out. The major aspect of the chocobo companion I feel are fine.

I love my Chocobo, but it just gets in the way of anything I want to do. Can't use duty finder, can't mount, the time limits in every part of this game are just pointless or prohibitive. Limited sp on something we've never seen before so we can't possibly know what's going to work until we waste all our time grinding to learn that certain stances might be garbage. I'm not wasting money to try to fate grind when mounting to get to a fate before it finishes to get one atom of progression on it's rank bar costs 50% of the reward for getting gold on the fate. I was excited about getting my Chocobo. I even hoped their was a black mage stance because of the picture on the website that clearly showed a chocobo wearing black mage AF gear. I want to cast choco meteors dangit, not bust out excel sheets to try and math out the time/ worth of playing with something this convoluted.

Seems to me that you shouldn't worry about leveling the chocobo until you're 50 anyway. I personally think the xp cut isn't worth the slight advantage it gives early on, aside from the odd emergency/fate here and there.

Like, much much faster? I too tried it out for a bit when I first got the ability but it seemed like such a horrible gil sink. The inability to mount up without wasting a green was a deal breaker for me. Maybe they should change it so that using a gysahl green lets you summon/dismiss the chocobo for the entire allotted time as many times as you want. Or just let you mount while your chocobo is summoned and it re-summons for battle when you dismount.

I don't mind so much about not being able to queue because you are in a sort of party after all but it'd be nice if they can get it to function somehow. Maybe a special auto-dismiss of some sort. Or even changing the summoned chocobo into a pet rather than a party member.

In FFXI we had something similar called Adventuring Fellows. They could be out while you seek a party and were not in a party with you but by your side. It you joined a party it did assume a spot in the party but once someone entered the last spot it auto dismissed. I don't see why they could not do something more like this?

They have said we will eventually be able to use chocobos in dungeons. I think that is how they are meant to be leveled. They would get alot of xp in a dungeon. Right now using them in the open world is painfully slow.
