Who would you rather heal? WAR or PLD?

From personal experience, I like healing warriors more. I am a WHM. To me, they seem to take less damage/hold hate better. Perhaps I haven't run into a "good" paladin yet. I'm level 50 and all of the paladins I have grouped with on the way to 50 and at 50 have been not-so-good. Is paladin harder to play or something? Oh well. Which do you prefer? :)

Depends on the player and how well they can tank. If they are a good tank then I don't mind which to heal.

If I'm SCH I'd rather heal PLDs because I could put my heal buff on them, let the Fairy heal more while I put DoTs on the boss to help take it down faster, but if I'm WHM I'd rather heal WARs because I have more burst heals and a Regen I actually have the power to control (untill they fix the pet's Obey functions)

doesn't matter to me, as long as they are well geared and don't get 2 shots from trash mobs.

Although, WARs sometime look like derps to me for some reason...

Same as other people above don't mind which so long as their gear is on par with their level and are not terrible. Though warriors have a slight advantage over paladins on the tonberry king with being able to take 5-6 stacks of grudge instead of 3-4 for paladins.

I haven't noticed to much of a difference.

To me, a tank is a tank plan and simple. I am a WHM, and if they need healed I heal them.

I prefer to heal the good tanks over the bad tanks.

Paladin / Warrior makes no difference to me. I have seen both be exceptional tanks in both mitigation and maintaining agro, and I have seen both fail miserably not even being able to withstand the alpha strike of a trash pack let alone hold agro on it.

It's all about who is driving in my book, not what they drive.

From my experiences so far I've preferred Paladin, mostly because my pocket tank is a Paladin, I find he's less spikey to heal holds aggro well, and hell last night when things got a little out of hand he threw me a heal so that I could get everyone back up from some major aoe damage that I wasn't prepared for. It's also in part that I've had a super squishy warrior tank where I practically had to spam cure 2 to keep his face off the floor, taking the Global cooldown to Esuna him got him killed. And having a jerk Warrior yell at me for not healing when he was killed by multiple final stings because dps wasn't focusing targets.

Outside of the bad experiences PAL/WAR seem fairly equal, I've just had best luck with my pocket pally as a white mage.

Of course its subjective to the skill of the player, but I find PAL to be easier to heal than many WAR. My usual tank mostly plays PAL though so I am a little biased.

I hate how war hp spikes.

Days ago, I'd kneejerk to Paladin. Every Warrior I played with would lose almost half their HP in one shot and get angry at me for it, when I'm skipping chances at Freecure just to keep them alive. Never had that with a Paladin. Warriors, to me, were terrible tanks.

I realize now it must have been a gear issue or how the player chose to handle hate. I played with a Warrior in my FC and they were fantastic: the first Warrior that didn't completely fail at "move out of the way when there is an attack coming."

After that, at level 49-50, I finally started to see great Warrior players. It seemed like 30-45 was filled with people not sure how to handle the role and getting mad at me for their learning process (or lack there of), forming my bias.

I still think Paladins are nicer due to personal preference, but if the tank knows how to dodge and combo the hate, it's cool. I love taking care of a tank who knows how to take care of everybody else.

As a whole, up to L.36 I much prefer Warrior tanks, I know how much damage they're taking and they seem to hold threat better. Paladins either tank no damage, or a lot of damage in my eyes and most of them are terrible at generating threat so far so I end up tanking mobs all the time.

My pocket tank is a paladin. He's pretty easy to heal as a WHM. So for lack of a better comparison, I'll say I prefer paladins.

I prefer PLD, while warriors are great with threat with sleep it's not an issue and PLD's health bars are easy to take care of and don't jump up and down like a WAR.

I've had really good warrior tanks, only 1 paladin tank for my instances raids and he was also excellent. I've also had a couple really bad warrior tanks, one of which couldn't handle the first pack of mobs in haukke manor, and then promptly left. We cleared the dungeon with me(SCH) and 2 DRGs tanking with no issues.

As I use SCH it is a rather difficult to pick. As stated earlier a WARs self HP spikes can get annoying but since Succor give the shield heal for the full amount or at all it still isn't a huge waste. I might say PLD though because the have an easier time at getting hate on multiple mobs at start of fights to keep them off my fairy which is currently bugged to pull hate on mobs even if she hasn't done anything. WAR can do this too but needs a bit more positioning to do it well and usually takes a bit more time. I have had both amazing and horrible players of both though so it is really hard. ><

As a SCH I think so far it has been much easier to heal GLA, their damage seems to be much less spikey. If I get behind on a WAR it is harder to catch back up.

PLD. War is too spiky.

WAR posting here i think most of WAR problems is people don't know when to use our inner-beast (700+) self heal, even my self i have only just fine tuned the use of it. other then that our main point of a warrior (self healing) does not exist out side inner-beast

I don't think that effects healers heals, and only Warrior self heals. I haven't noticed any differences in my cures.

I've had too many paladins with barely 1500 hp getting hit hard and often, that it becomes more of a fight to keep their hp from getting any lower for me at this point. Don't know what's up with that, but I think it has something to do with more of their mitigation abilities coming in after lvl40...

In my experience so far, GLA/PAL have been sturdier, but worse with aggro and things take a little longer to kills.

By contrast, MRD/WAR have held aggro better, things die faster, and the only drawback is that they require a few more heals. But, knowing that, I can plan for it.

I'd personally have to lean more towards healing a paladin over a warrior. I mean when I started out warriors had so much HP it felt like I rarely had to heal them. Now though they get hit so much harder that a paladin's natural defense just pulls them ahead.

I gotta chip in and say from what I have noticed, WAR seems to push out higher emnity numbers than a PLD.
But man their spiky health bars make me feel like they are at risk of dropping unless I give them a lot of focus.
Healing a PLD I can throw on a Regen, /wave at each DPS, /sit /doze and come back to the PLD with another regen.

Pld , I use to think b/c of the shield blocking it made things easier on my whm

But it's just the dmg mitigation moves , pre 38 War pulls ahead but then Pld has sentinel and once they got Shield Oath it just makes my job much easier

Both are the same to me, PLD can reduce dmg while WAR have lot of hp so as long they dont overpull and evade the red zone right, I feel no different

I honestly don't know. I have seen many good warrior tanks. Not so many good paladins. But the few awesome paladins I have seen, I wanted to keep forever and always. (Same goes for bards who actually sing their songs, but that is a little off topic.)

I think with the current mindset that the masses are forming, if I had to go into a random party, I would prefer to heal a Shield Oath Paladin.

Also partying regularly with a great Warrior without healing issue.

Tis' as I said in other threads, that if the Warrior relies solely on the healer for healing, it may impact the healer.

WAR, no doubt. I don't know if the job is just easier than PLD, but I have yet to come across a bad WAR tank. Maybe PLD is just more gear dependent as you level or something.

Exactly. I prefer PLD from personal experience. Have had many bad WAR tanks, but I have seen a few good ones, and I've seen a few bad PLD as well. As long as he's holding aggro and takes care of his team I'd heal him all the way to Bahamut.

edit: I don't know if WAR has AoE attacks, but it seems CC'd enemies NEVER stay CC'd with WAR around.

I've met a few very good warriors and up to now I prefer them over paladins.
If they know how to time cooldowns they are gold.
The large health pool helps along with that they seem to be better at keeping aggro.

That said my paladin experience has been pretty bad.
Especially when it comes to hate and picking up adds on a boss.

For me it is a PLD. I can then sleep some targets and know they'll stay asleep =)

WAR seem to hold aggro better, PLDs mitigate better and I don't have to babysit them as much with all their cooldowns.

Either or really, depends on the fight.

This should really be the story the thread over.
PLDs that are well played have the slight edge for me because if they are well played threat is still not really an issue... only exception is the tonberry fight as mentioned earlier

I have had no trouble healing either one of them. My experiences show that paladins take less dmg though

Important to remember...

PLD and WAR are two totally different tanks.

PLD are your Boss tanks and best suited for single target. They are designed to get SLAMMED and survive by Heavy Armor and a Shield to Block. They can absolutely handle trash but this is accomplished by a lot of tab-targeting and manually focusing on each target.

WAR are your AoE damage dealing trash tanks (I still love my WAR tanks on Bosses so don't get upset). They hold threat better and easier on a large group of mobs than a PLD can.

My point is they work the best TOGETHER. I heal more often on a WAR because they aren't blocking. On PLD I get a chance to take my finger off of my cures and prepare for the burst damage (In tandem with a SCH)

WAR PLD WHM SCH are meant to work together in our raids

I personally find paladins easier to cure due to them taking less damage due to higher mitigation, paired with a lower health pool that requires less intensive healing due to the very low damage they receive. I find that a good tank has no threat issues regardless of their class, and I do love that each tank has its pros and cons and so are situational.
