Queue vs. Error 1017

I've seen other people mention this in their posts, but attention needs to be drawn to this. Why does the error even exist? Why does the game sometimes put you in a queue (very rarely) but most of the time just give you the error?

Shouldn't there always just be a queue? Or did the developers make a maximum queue size which is too small and this error comes up if the queue is full too?

I think the queue size needs to be able to handle a larger amount of people, so you can do something else while you're waiting to get in rather than just sit and spam a button.

Well it seems it is far too difficult for them to add another Queue server, it is far beyond a joke now, 3 days I have not been able to Log into my toon, each night i have tried for about 30-60 mins a time just hitting join server, 1017 error, just continues from there.
It amazes me the whole point behind V2 of FF XIV was because V1 was so rubbish, low pop servers and all of that, so they rerelease and already they have angered so many people i am willing to bet they have now already lost around 5-10% of players due to proving how bad they are at managing a MMO
SE maybe you should just keep to single player games, you cannot maintain and run a MMO!!!

So they should just add it without testing it so that when it breaks a ton of stuff you can come back and complain about that. It seems from how they are approaching this that the lobby/dutyfinder/login servers are all tied together. They are making it so all servers in each data center don't run off the same queue server. When the fix the balancing with that as well as expanded capacity it should alleviate all the problems.

THey set up a queue, but when the servers were still crashing they also set up an artificial population limit. So when the servers are over populated you get the 1017 error. When pop drops you get queued up, though the queue mechanic is messed up because it shouldn't ever allow a queue higher than the pop limit which it seems to do because you can get queued and then get a 1017.

What I find odd about the queue is that I can get error 1017 and then maybe 10 seconds later (after getting the error about 50 times) I will get into a queue that has maybe 10-15 people in it? Shouldn't the queue be able to hold like a thousand people or more? It's just a list based on when you tried to log on.

That doesn't make any sense as the point of a queue is for people trying to log in past the pop limit. I just think they have very low queues because queues on login are stressing the queues on duty finder thus double stressing and crashing stuff.

the main point to my post is because SE failed to implement a Queue server capable of sustaining the load, well even (my guess 20%) of the current load most MMO's are going to get angry and in turn quit and move on back to wow or whatever...I REALLY wanted version 2 to do well for itself as it is a FANTASTIC game 'When' you can play it, i mean 3 days so far and not being able to log in once is just madness. the only reason this game may not do so well is because they have already angered a good amount of gamers :( that is just the way the average mmo'er thinks, it is all about first impressions!

You're right, it doesn't make sense, but it's exactly what's happening. The queue should work that every person over the pop limit gets in line, but that's not what it's doing it's behaving as if there's a soft limit that allows a queue and a hard one that brings up 1017. When the hard limit of people in the world is reached it's dropping 1017 on the rest of the people in the queue. Nearly every 1017 thread I've read has at least a few people who mention getting 1017'ed from a queue. It happens to me so frequently that I barely even notice it anymore.

Yeah this has happened to me too. And I was like 12 in queue.

It's already the 3rd of September and this error is still always there unless you play at 3:30 am in the morning

at this rate The 30 day plus the free days compensation they gave us is going to run out before we can actually login at our convenient times when we're either not at work, school or have to be in bed.

We're 1 week into launch. The fix is being installed, starting basically right now. So while I disagree from a customer service aspect with the concept that 'one week is plenty' I have to say, you're exaggerating quite a bit.
