Limiting Forum Contribution and Stifling Discussion

Why are there so many posting restrictions in the official forums? It's honestly ridiculous that any player at all is unable to post freely, let alone even limiting players under level 15 to no posts, and marginally increasing the limit as a player gains levels. As if a posters' contribution is worth more the higher in level he is, however even at level 50, more active members of the community may still feel limited. Why Square Enix should feel the need to imtroduce an official platform for elitism is beyond me.

Limiting posts per day, and especially to such a low number (not that any limit is even okay at all), is a huge hindrance to discussion. Posts in discussion-heavy threads quickly become unorganized and difficult to read, because the necessity arises for posters to continually edit a single post in response to others. These responses are sometimes not viewed at all, as they quickly get buried by more posts, and the process of interesting, popular threads being bumped via extended discussion is lost entirely. This is basically counterintuitive to the idea of a forum as a whole.

Once one reaches his 'posting limit' for the day, he's unable to stake territory in a potential thread in which he wishes to participate. If the poster has a positive contribution to the discussion or suggestion, it's now lost forever because of the oppressive forum regulations. It's absurd that this is the reality we have to deal with right now.

Please consider eliminating the forum restrictions, including the 1000 character limit. Or, if nothing else, only limiting thread creation to players level 15 and above; this would be a reasonable restriction, right now it's downright counterproductive.


By the way, if any discussion occurs in this thread, I may have to edit the OP in response. Apologies in advance. Square Enix has deemed me unable to respond by other means.

I don't see it as elitism.. anyone is able to level up (or will be, once these damn errors are gone).
Also, I kinda welcome anything that limits the flood of new threads about the same stuff every day.

I agree that the 1000 character limit is stupid.

Personally, I have to agree with most of the OP. I feel like this is something that should be addressed. I understand that they don't want people spamming the forums with mumbo jumbo, but honestly, it really is stifling the community at large.

The inability to post more than several replies a day and the inability to respond to people at all when I was under 20, etc. was probably one of the most annoying things I've experienced. It reflects poorly upon Square Enix, because it is clear that they don't wish to police their forums on a regular basis, but that's part of having a forum for a game. That's what moderators are for.

We need the ability to communicate with one and other in order to make a community. Removing this ability for a decent percent of the population boggles my mind.

Agree with the OP. The limitations need to be removed.

The limitations are because of how people are literally bashing people back and forth ( trolling,rude remarks etc).

The limitation is more of response from SE, "Chill out everyone" If people were nicer to each other instead of at each others throats, we wouldn't have these restrictions I bet.

Wasting one of my whole three daily posts for this, but I have to agree. Many times I've seen someone ask a question on here that I know the answer to, but I've already posted three times that day or have to gauge whether I want to use my last post to answer or for something else. As a result, I've seen a lot of these questions get buried with no answer and no help for the person. It's just silly.

Those limitations were in place from the moment the forums opened, before all the login issues were found.

Because people make stupid threads like this one and clog up the forums. These forums are practically brand new, yet even with the posting restrictions already have over 100 pages of mostly junk. And you still have to ask why they attempted to rectify the situation?

On my server forums alone, there is a guild that posted 2 recruitment threads for the same guild, there is a guild with 3 threads for "look at us we downed ifrit hard" "look at us we downed garuda hard" and "look at us we downed titan hard" instead of just including their progression on their recruitment thread.

I would have replied an hour or so ago, but I had apparently exhausted my posting privileges for the day.

I personally think having an arbitrary posting limitation on everyone because of some fear that a portion of the community will post 'junk' posts, isn't the correct way to do things. Having rules set up that are tailored for the lowest common denominator of whatever society or group that you are in is never a good thing for that community as a whole. Having the ability to have open discussions without the fear of having to ration your posts is completely asinine and reeks of laziness on SE's part. Individuals should be dealt with on a case by case basis, and not by some over reaching blanket statement that affects everyone negatively.

People should be held accountable and penalized if necessary for their own actions, not by the actions of some person whom they have no control over.

Was the personal attack necessary? Yours is the sort of post that contributes to the volatile community Starlord spoke of not two posts above yours. Being insulting and negative also hinders discussion by the way, because posters are more likely to respond in a similar way.

Anyway, ignoring the rude comment, has restriction ever really solved anything in the history of ever? You said it yourself, the posting restrictions aren't stopping the "junk", so how about a more pragmatic solution like enforcing the rules with moderation instead of arbitrary posting restrictions based on, of all things, in game level. What qualifies as "junk" anyway, something you don't like? Glad we have you around Riv, clearly a positive influence on the forum as a whole. I'm not referring to player perceptions, but rather the definition of elitism itself. I don't honestly believe anyone who's level 50 feels superior to others because he can post more (except maybe Riv because he's a condescending douchebag), but the posting restriction intrinsically weighs his opinion more heavily simply for the fact that he has enough allotted posts to actually defend his perspective, a luxury that lower leveled players, including myself, don't have. If not elitism, how about some archaic forum caste system in which level 50 players are allowed more freedom simply because they have existed for a longer period of time?

None of this is to say level 50 players have done anything wrong. I'm asking for freedom for everybody here, the fact that I have to do this is ridiculous.

I think people shouldn't have access until they pay their first month subs.

I'm guessing the limitation is only in place due to the recent launch, inevitable problems and the inevitable influx of people trolling/moaning about fixes etc would out wash any constructive posting. That said, when a constructive post does appear I find it annoying that I often can't engage in conversation due to posting limitations.

Also shoe stringing posting privileges to the IG level is absurd, I'm sure there is a big proportion of players who won't get to high levels for some time due to IRL commitments that prevent them playing regularly. Yet this same group would probably have the desire to discuss the game on the forum until they can jump on the game.

I'm an example of that group :P

Did........did you even read the beta forums? If you didn't then you were spared from the atrocious monstrosity it was. The community itself is to blame for the restrictions.
