PLD question

how does dexterity effect block rate?

it says dexterity effects parry and block rate

in my defensive stats it reads

Defense 247
Parry 206
Magic Defense 247

there is no block stat except for on shield , so if i put points into dexterity does this mean the block rating on my shield would be higher than lets say someone who chooses strength over dexterity?

i thank you for your opinion and feedback.. but i find it hard to believe i should just join the masses on this VIT>Strength thing.

strength gives block strength and "more dps" (which also helps with enimity) but what good is all that block strength when u barely even block? i get so much strength from my gear, ive decided to go VIT>DEX and c what happens.

Don't quote me on this I haven't had a chance to test it. But the effect stacking DEX has is minimal at best. So far as much as I can tell straight VIT is going to be your first option followed by STR if you use a shield that has a high block rate. (Not only will you block "more" as minimal as it may be but you add damage to your shield swipe.) My honest opinion is that VIT will be your best stat because I'm thinking of the effects of shield oath (reduced damage and recieved damage then the + enmity) enmity really shouldn't be a problem.

Agreed here.

Only stat to go for is Vit honestly, it gives about 500 extra HP which is a decent chunk when mobs like behemoth hit for 3.5k.

Very interesting yeah i noticed that adding dex does minimal effect. I just gotta respect now.

No... Strength is the only stat you should be getting as a PLD. It has more EHP than any other stat, including VIT. The 500hp from VIT is NOT, I repeat, NOT worth it at all....

I agree. I went half and half and I tanked along side paladins that went full vit and I pull threat from them and take less damage because block is made stronger by strength.

Dex does work. I was testing with a bouddy so we could choose to use our restat items or not.

Went STR and Dex. HE went str then his older son VIT.

I blocked much more often and negated a lot more edamage (need to time properly). Having VIt has extra Hp that won't be cured up as much and becomes a strain as well ass uneeded, you want to negate hits. PArry, and dex play a roll in that both in stats and combined gear. Matted gear with high dex pays off. You evade, and with a half/half shield, megate damage more often.

Never, ever, factor in DPS when tanking as PLD. The damage increase from +STR is still going to be negligible because you should be using Shield Oath in most situations and you're already losing 20% outgoing damage with that. The block rate returns from +DEX are negligible, so the question that remains is:

Is the amount of extra damage you block while having +STR equal to or greater than the amount of HP you gain from +VIT over the same time period?

If +VIT gives you, say, 500 additional HP, then the additional amount of damage your +STR build must block is 500 damage in the same time frame you would lose it in a +VIT build, assuming consistent healing.

As a PLD, going pure Vit is entirely necessary. We aren't DPS and I never struggle to hold Aggro unless someone (Archers) pop all their CD's at the start.

The increased blocked dmg from str is maybe 1% if you fully spec it to that. The maybe being if you break the tier... if you do not it is literally no difference.

The increase to hp is around 8-10% from Vit.

The enmity increase increase from dmg is more or less negligible when you factor in you will be using shield oath 100% of the time while tanking. Considering the reduced dmg you deal when it is up.

As for dex, I seen no evidence in a substantial increase to block that would beat out the 10% hp gain.

I cannot understand why anyone would choose anything but full VIT with the way the stats are currently working.

what about mind for cure power?

30 points in STR = Slight DPS increase (9 dmg per attack was it?), 1% on damage blocked ONLY if you break into the next tier.

30 points in DEX = 1% chance to block ONLY if you break into the next tier.

30 points in VIT = 450-500ish HP and a slight increase to in-battle HP regen.


Take yer pick. If anything is now outdated, please post as I've been having too much fun battling 1017 lately to do research.

In the off-chance you're being serious: Absolutely not. Cure is already underpowered on Paladin and the minor increase you would get from even using all 30 points at level 50 will not make it usable in any real situation. MND is not even a considerable option.
