Housing Discussion and Ideas For It!

Let's talk about housing on the game for a change. Once it becomes available, I'm pretty sure people are going to want to have their own little house to stay in on the game.

Which environment would you prefer your living space to be?

1.) Forest (Gridania)
2.) Coast (Limsa Lominsa)
3.) Arid (Ul'dah)

Now with the location, which size(s) would you prefer? For me, I'd have to see the options, but I'd go with either medium or small. The location I'd choose would be Gridania for Naraku Diabolos, and the other houses on my alternate characters would have houses based upon their starting city. So I'd have two houses total in Gridania, one in Limsa Lominsa, and one in Ul'dah.

How would you like your furnishings in your house? Would you like a nice, quaint living space or some luxury? For me, I'm basing the interiors of my characters' houses from the beach houses I normally stay at on vacation (I go to a resort island here in the US outside of Charleston, South Carolina, and they have really nice cottages, houses, mansions, and a luxury hotel on the island!). I'm using this site to show other forum users some ideas for how to create houses, along with advertising the beach I go to :P )

What does everyone think? I was also thinking with future revisions to the houses, we could have gardening, harvesting, mining, and fishing. Just imagine, our own little section with our own little spots to gather from! I'd have a small pond to go fishing, plants some trees that I could harvest items from, grow some food materials in a garden, etc. I'd really make this in-game house an actual home for my character to live in!

I viewed the housing area in open beta.
It was in Limsa and right on the beach.
I've totally fallen in love with that area so that's where I'll be going no matter how cool the other areas are.

Picked out a nice little house right at the bottom of the hill which has a little garden.

Not sure about furniture but I imagine I'll keep things simple.

I think gridania is the most beautiful environment by far, although there are plenty of places I have yet to explore. I love me some Roccoco design!

What were the prices for the houses by any chance, Ephany? Were they affordable? I have around 286k on Naraku Diabolos. Is there any way you could test a housing area out location-wise? I'd love to see the Limsa Lominsa one, but my main is going to be staying in the forests of Gridania (I love Ireland, so I'm going to model my house on it. My character who is native to Limsa Lominsa, named Rowena Taheny, is going to be having a house there at the beach, and it will be designed after one of the houses at Kiawah I have stayed in.

Fluffy Fluff, I LOVE how that bedroom is in that picture. It looks like it's out of a fairy tale! :) I love the designs in it and everything. I think that'll be the one my Hayley Westenra character will have.

I really have always been a fan of more rustic designs with a clear reconnection with nature. So I'll be opting for a gridanian home and try to design it to be similar to this. http://static.designlike.com/wp-cont...stic-style.jpg

Very nice, Ninja-Mage! I think that would fit nicely into Gridania's housing area :) I'm still wondering with crafted furniture, if other classes besides Carpenter would be used. Do you think both Blacksmith and/or Armorer would be used? I also would think it would be cool with the fish/animals we fish up, that we could display them in fish tanks! There is already a very big selection of fish in the fishing log to choose from. It'd be just like Animal Crossing, lol. Oh, I thought of something earlier! Where would we or could we obtain tree saplings? Say if you want to grow your own trees for harvesting stuff for Botanist, such as lumber, food materials, and such, where do you think we could get them? One thing I thought of is that there could be some catalog through the Botanist Guild that we could get; something like the Grand Company Seals to obtain items? I dunno, just a thought!

I live 20 minutes from the water, so having a Limsa house is my ideal. I would love to have an old-fashioned sea shanty of my own. I'll post a pic later if I can.

Medium or large; definitely in one of Ul'Dah's Spanish Town-esque homes. Honestly, I just want the housing to be as modular as it can possibly get in order to offer as much customization as we can squeeze from it. And though it may stress their servers a little, I'm hoping SE can do some kind of instancing/ LOD/ trick with housing so that we can get something like what Ninja-Mage posted:
