PS3 Performance

So I played my friends ps3 version of ffxiv today. Is that really the best SE could do? Seems like the performance is trash and they have visual effects of rain. The fps I bet never goes over 20-25. Way too many visual effects for a slow running console. Terrible design by SE porting it over. Should have adjustments to enhance the FPS.

Having not played a PC Game scince diablo 2 this is better gfx then most games currently out and a solid 30 fps idk why ppl like to bash it especially when the big problems it has are the same ones PC has monsters rendering in fates over non party player chars and eggis.

I understand that it's an MMO but I REALLY think SE could have done better with the PS3 version. I play primarily on PC but I do have a PS3 copy so here's hoping to future optimization because as of now it looks like someone smeared doo doo on my TV.

You know what I'll second this because as of right now PS3 sucks when in fates with idk how many people 50-100 or more the mobs all disappear, the PS3 hotbar sucks, Targeting is horrible turn the filter on so I don't have to target party members but I'm still stuck with targeting EGI's. Lots of stuff wrong with PS3 I played P3 on PC then when they opened it to PS3 I switched but I never went past level 20 did a dungeon or even partied up with anyone. I don't want to be that guy but now I see what everyone was saying about PS3 limitations....... If they can fix the Hotbar by giving us another option I might stick with this game but idk.

I'm not sure what everyone was expecting. It's a port of a PC game running on 7 year old hardware.

I played both the PS3 and PC version during beta and I gotta say, the difference in FPS is pretty huge, everything felt sluggish on PS3, I was originally going to purchase the PS3 version since I got the PC version for free (legacy account) but at it's current state, I just didn't find the PS3 version enjoyable. But then again, maybe this really is all the PS3 is capable of? Or, like someone else said, they could have added even lower graphics settings for the PS3 version.

I have to agree the ps3 version is lacking a lot the targeting system and the not being able to see monsters/players in fates is pretty much my biggest issue the controls I have gotten used to. (it's almost impossible for me to be a tank or a healer with this targeting system)

yea I kind of wished that they would of used the control system from Tales of xillia

I don't think PS3 is that bad. I used to have a gaming notebook and the old FFXIV graphics looked amazing and ran amazing. Of course, I can't compare now because now it's a different game and I only have a PS3. I do notice a little bit of lag, but I think it's acceptable since we are working with dated hardware. If a PS4 version is ever released, I would have higher expectations.

I have been disappointed with the PS3 version in many different ways. But I don't think it's SE's fault. They're working with hardware that is near a decade old. Pretty sure the PS3 only has 256 mb ram. Definitely going to be buying a gaming PC though.

The game looks fine on my TV playing on PS3. The only problems are cluttered UI, small amount of objects loading on screen, and players/mobs moving stop-motion-like from far away.

I'm happy with it, though. I'd rather use my PS3 than shell out $600 for a gaming PC.

I just think if they turned off certain effects like weather maybe render less distance and less trees/grass the fps would shoot up. It's a decade old so yes they need to lower the games visual effects even further for performance.

I started on my PS3, got to 50 in a week using the PS3 and had but only two issues:

1. high traffic fates with mobs not loading (SE needs to adjust loading so it is party > mob > others for both pc and ps3)
2. few issues where party members kinda go invisible in dungeons and needed to use return to fix the issue each time

Are the graphics great? well for the ps3 limitations I say yes.

I have now also setup bootcamp on my mac and started playing the PC version. now I can see the graphics are much better (I personally turned them down for optimal performance), Standard laptop settings are very similar to what you get on the ps3, just with more people/mobs showing on the map. I will continue to use my ps3 for some things, and it meet the expectations of what you can get given what a ps3 has.

The other big advantage of the PS3 is it has constant fps, on my mac while my average fps are higher, when things get a bit crazy they drop lower then I would like, and this does not happen with the ps3.

Game is running completely fine with nothing game breaking and it does go over 30fps at times.

If you care so much about graphics go buy the PC version.

PS4 pre-ordered.
Game should look and run amazing if they port it over(and I don't see why they wouldn't)

I'd say 25-30fps is absolutely fine for an MMO game, I'm unaware of any PS3 games that actually run any faster than that in fact. The pace of combat in this game clearly doesn't require FPS-style twitch skills. The texturing however is pretty garbage. I guess you can't expect it to be amazing as previously mentioned it's running on kind of an old console at the end of it's life cycle and I suspect it being an MMO means there's a lot of other resources need to be computed in the background as opposed to something single player like The Last Of Us. Still I just laughed when I loaded up my PS3 copy on my monitor. I'm not entirely surprised but it really looks like crap compared to the PC version. And the PC version is still in dire need of some higher resolution textures, especially on armor or anything you're likely to actually zoom in on.

Look at the pixel sword! - (actually zoom in on the original image it's a lot more apparent at 1080p - wtf Square thought they were doing waving this thing right into the players face during cutscenes was anyone's guess).

I don't know why everybody is surprised. It always seemed like they were going to port it over to PS3 in order to get a feel for when they actually port it to PS4. They simply used the PS3 as a test of sorts to see if they could make it work for consoles. PS3 users were the guinea pigs for the PS4 release, unforunately.

Invisible Monsters during FATE's is a widespread issue as it does happen on the PC version.

Have you people ever heard of patches? optimization? It can and will happen.

I'd have to disagree with your opinion on hotbars for the moment, as I've found them pretty okay. But when it comes to targeting, the fact that pets actually count as actual monsters under the monster filter is extremely annoying. I have no reason whatsoever to be targeting an Egi, unless it's a 'last resort' type of thing.

R2+R1(tap R1 while holding R2) for easy targeting. It puts priority to monsters and avoids everything else.

I think they did a good job with it. I think the graphics are fine and get the job done. As far as the targeting system goes, I have never had a problem and have been healing just fine. There are other ways around it. The controller is not necessary! You can hook up a mouse and keyboard and play like that complete with key-bindings and hotkeys. The only thing is your are stuck with the cross bar. You can use macros. And quite frankly it's a hell of a lot better than not having it at all on the ps3. Maybe I'm just a little more grateful than others.

I only use the ps3 version for casual farming and crafting. I was kinda shocked by the look of the ps3 version at the first boot as well. I think the alpha/beta builds they showed us looked better. they should of gave the ps3 version the option to have the pc UI. it will work since you can use KB/M on the ps3. I hope they patch that in some day. seeing the ps3 version is giving me some concern of the ps4 version. yes the ps4 has the ram but its using something similar to a 7770 card I think. the ps4 version might not be 60 fps as well.

SE kept their promise of a ps3 version and they did. I don't really think people will be on the ps3 version for years to come unless SE creates a godly patch fixing the ps3 issues in which they can but for now they have other things to take of

I'll be switching over to the PS4 version when that comes out. Hopefully I'll actually have a PS4 by then, aha.

-The ONLY issue with PS3 is when mobs/players don't load when doing fates and the like. I literally can not participate in some fates simply because the mobs will not load. it is hands down the most annoying freaking crap ever. It's also ridiculously annoying when skills don't come out properly and my avatar is just running with the weapon in his left hand... even while not moving, he's running in place. The cool-downs go into effect, but you'll see absolutely nothing happening except for an unsheathed weapon and a bad version of the "Running-man".

-Targeting? You get used to it; Play with it for a while. I can target whatever I need to target whenever I choose.

-Graphics? It's to be expected. It's old stuff.

I think the biggest issue here is that, at least for me, it feels like they didn't really create enough variety in terms of graphical options. Take a look at the PC version for instance, some of the textures are very poor, and I run the game on max settings on a GTX 780 build. During some cutscenes, armor, weapons and objects look downright bad. I'm led to believe that they lowered a bunch of textures just for the sake of stability on PS3 .

They could have added better graphical options for the PC version, and likewise, added much lower graphical options for the PS3 version so that players get a choice to toggle between those settings to get the performance they want.

I play on my ps3 and I ever have a problem and the targeting system is I really easy for quick in front lock ons press x to cycle through mobs hold r2 and press l1 or r1 really easyy only bad thing I can say about playing ob a ps3 is not having a keyboard to type with but even so im in Team Speak so I dont really need to type.. and the Fates could be better but theres no need to complain since its a port

It is hard on the ps3, but I get gold on it every time, even solo, with my warrior. I'm sure they will adjust the load priority in time, and would be shocked if this issue last past 2.1, or even till that far. The fact it hits pc players also, makes me think it will be addressed within the next week or two for improvements with a major adjustment for 2.1 to fix the issue.
