Hamlet defense: please no more sheeps and puks

I'm actually not sure if Hamlet defense (it was announced by the old team) is still on the radar of the development team and when (if ever) it'll be implemented. But I have a request from the bottom of my heart:

if they'll ever be implemented, please don't make them revolved about fighting critters as the the vast majority of the current behests and levequests. There's no immersion or sense of an epic struggle when defending a village in danger from... pets!

There are plenty alternatives:
Pirate/brigand raids
Garlean invasion forces
Beastmen tribes raids
Undead armies
Epic sized monsters (dragons, wyverns and so forth) at high levels.

Also, it'd be nice to see them bound to some kind of story and/or elaborate scenario, pretty much like Warhammer's public quests.

Finally, please add some actual decoration and props. In the case of a pirate raid for instance, a ship should be anchored at sea in front of the village, and the pirates should come ashore on boats. Garlean invaders might drop down from airships and so forth. Seeing enemies spawn from nowhere detracts from the immersion and enjoyment of the mission.

Really depends on if its story related or just a random occurrence, since an outlaying village is more likely to be attacked by animals (especially in a fantasy setting) than people, because hamlets are so far out of the way they're not exactly integral locations to lay a strike on a capital.

For example in FFXI, campaign is built around the Crystal War which is between the nations and beastmen and even an outside force (Atomos and Lady Lilith) tampering with historical events, that's why we aren't fighting what we normally fight with the exception of Beastmasters or the trojan horse like artillery that spawns tigers/wyverns etc.

So if its a Garlean attack, that would make sense in the shroud areas, Beastmen tribes are said to be implemented soon, so thats the most likely candidate, but if it is animals and the like it does make sense too since again in fantasy settings villages are often attacked by animals more than other people unless there's a war going on.

The matter is not if it makes sense or not. The problem is that it's rather tedious to play animal control. It's not epic, and this game definitely needs more epic.

The Opposing Forces may take hamlet towns as a base for further invasions?

There are many possibilities, but don't begrudge SE if they implement Hamlet Defense using known and pre-existing enemy forces and critters first.

We know what Serpent Reavers look like, so it would not be difficult for the SE development team to create content with them attacking Aleport. But I've yet to see a Sahagin, personally. I don't even know if their models are rendered yet. So it might take longer for SE to develop content with them attacking Aleport & Wineport.

If we MUST kill animals, why not something like rabid wolves, or 8 foot beatles. Anything with claws and a taste for blood will do!!

I agree with the OP wholeheartedly, Hamlet Defense has tons of potential, SE please don't make it fail by having us defend the hamlets from rabid goats. We have enough of that in-game already. At the very least, make us defend them against hordes of goblins or beastmen.

I would absolutely love this, but I guarantee you it wont happen. I would love to be proved wrong, but I get the feeling SE is tooo lazy to put nice touches on it like this.

Yep, they're so lazy that they're overhauling the game from the ground up. If they don't put something like that, is simply because of strict resource management. Not because they're "lazy".

Participating in a behest under the pretense of defending the region from "slavering beasts" is a bit anti-climactic when I am tossed in the fray and forced to do battle with......non-aggressive goats that moo.

Will agree that Hamlet defence would be a let down if it turned out to be go stop the golden bazaar's rat infestation before they destroy the grain shipment type deal. would love to get down and dirty against empire troops, bandits, or beast men.

All though would be nifty if a hamlet came under attack by some of the "Notorious bandits" that pop up in the faction leaves. Complete with there animal menageries as part as a larger attack, Say "The nibbler" and her squeekers rolled into a hamlet along side a cadre of highwaymen. Or if an attack from an amalj'aa raiding party brought along some of there pet drakes. What im saying is i dont mind bashing in more digital animal skulls, just make sure that there not the only opponents

I can see it now, the Garlean's are attacking you must defend Aleport from their savage Nannygoat Army. The town of Wineport is under attack from the elite Dodo unit along with their Puk spies.

Oh and when you get to the end it could pop a huge Dragon NM and as you take your first swing you miss and surprise it's actually an Imp in disguise.

Makes no sense at all :P lol. Honestly if you have to overhaul because you fucked up at the start, then you're either lazy or stupid lol. And I dont think SE is stupid.

But look at everything in game, there is no "care" for anything, like Tanaka first said "We dont feel theres need for it so we wont do it" and he applied this to everything lol

Theres no love or passion in the game. No tender touches. Because they to lazy.

Is "Lazy" and "Laziness" your words of the year? This has nothing to do with laziness lol. You can't make a video game, let alone an MMORPG if you're lazy...it's impossible because there has to be drive to even make the framework let alone the actual programming and designing phase. The game was rushed out before it was ready, that's all there is to it.

Not to mention "fucking up" has nothing to do with laziness, it has to do with making errors which isn't always linked to laziness because I know a lot of lazy people who are the smartest folks you could meet, they just work at their own pace.

Looks like someone thinks he knows better (and quite obviously doesn't).
If they have to overhaul because they "fucked up" (big word), it's because the executives pushed for an early release date.

It's funny how people with zero game development experience go around calling developers "lazy" when they have absolutely no idea of what went on behind the scene. Conceited much?

No love or passion? no tender touches? It's enough for me to look at the equipment design or at the manical design and animation of any monster to see how massively wrong you are.

In my personal opinion, fending off sheep and puks is fine from early to mid-levels. However, I do agree that in the later levels of the game, we should be dealing with increasingly dangerous encounters.

Monster's actually move like...living things which you can't really say for most MMOs, or even some offline games..they move and "breathe" yeah, but it's blatantly mechanical rather than natural.

In a fantasy rpg I can understand at lv 1 killing off bugs and animals but by 20(at most imo) I should be fighting some beastmen grunts or something that looks like it's going to rip my head off. Even with behests I believe they should be more exciting like stopping small beastmen squadrons from taking control over an area then fighting the captain(leader) of them at the end for a final difficult struggle.

Currently it's like we are actually the bad guys attacking non-aggressive animals and bugs...Then who appears? More animals, bugs, or a pitiful elemental...

As you stated this game really needs more epic. Current content(plus other things) doesn't leave you feeling amazed enough as it should be. Future ideas and tweaks to the current features needs to have more of the "wow" effect.

EDIT: Even with XI in my newb days I ran into a beastman at lv 5. He kindly chased me back to sandy after hitting me in the back with an axe lol.
