Seems like this might clear up some of the congestion- but maybe I'm wrong... I haven't seen anything on this, anyone know?

No, there will be no AFK kick. Why? Cause AFK players aren't the only issue, and they're far from the biggest issue. The only reason why people are complaining about AFK players, is because this is clearly everyone's first MMO. The bigger issue, are the tens of thousands of bots and chinese sweat shop workers that never log out. They all work for gil sellers(those people that will spam messages trying to get you to visit their website). They're a MUCH larger issue then AFK players.
Besides, why would they impliment an AFK kick system, when the majority of people that it will kick, are people waiting in the duty finder for a party. Nothing would be more annoying, then having spent all that time in the duty finder with no luck, and then suddenly, the game kicks you. Great, now you have to try to log back in, fighting through the numbers, only to have to requeue the duty finder.
Wasn't complaining- just asking a question. Every other MMO I've played has had one, so I was curious. Also, a lot of people I know stay logged in while at work or sleeping. They do this because they can't log in when they want to, which means there is a lot of dead weight on the servers that doesn't need to be there. As to being afk while waiting for the duty finder, why not play the game instead? :P
other MMOs with AFK kick tend to be free to play or pay for items... there never was (and hope never will be) an AFK kick in FF games. It spoils the submersion if you have to be paranoid of a timer instead of relaxing and RPing.
It's not a priority but they did say that after solving the new server issue in the following week, and completely addressing the problem they will look into such a feature afterwards. There are no guarantees though.
I'll admit, this is my first Final Fantasy MMO-- so I wasn't aware AFK kicks weren't a "thing" here. Hence the question. The other MMOs I've played with them have been both subscription and free to play ;). Anyway, I suppose I just won't log out anymore. Thanks for the info, guys!
Not saying you were complaining, I was saying it as a generalization.
Most MMOs that have the kick feature, are f2p or use cash shops, and they're also not the biggest money grabbers. I know that DCUO had one(at least when i played it did), and I would consistently here people screaming about how the game kicked them while they were waiting in a queue. If a kick system were implemented in FF, the forums would be full of people complaining about it, because the game kicked them while they're taking a dump, or were waiting in the duty finder.
AFk kick systems are just bad.
I mean honestly it couldnt hurt under these circumstances. Sure theres other issues but with a set server capacity id think every lil bit helps. Ya ok theres bots and stuff but everywhere i go theres crowds of people doin nothing...dont think they r farming staring at a wall in town. Do i blame em though? Nah...no other choice really right now. Hopefully none of this will matter though after tomorrow. I like the explination of stuff like naaah afk kicks ruin the immersion a ff game is supposed to have. I think not being able to play at all might affect it a lil more lol
people will start logging out when they know they will be able to get back in without trying for 5 hours with no success
WoW has an afk timer. When you stand around doing nothing for 15+ minutes you should be kicked and as far as I know most people, whether relaxing or Rping, move around.
They're an issue when they take up spots for hours on end that someone could be actively using. Also, who stands around perfectly still waiting for a duty finder queue to pop?
I have a friend online right now (stayed online while asleep) who is walking around in Uldah-- he said its "like being in a wax museum."
XI does actually have an idle kick timer, but its controlled by the player so most people set it to "never" and then forget about it until the next time they log in on a different computer and their bazaar gets kicked. I've had afk kicks in pay to play mmos before and if necessary I would not mind one in this one (although when I'm going to be gone from my computer for more than an hour right now, I do log out). Like others have said, its something they are going to examine after the new servers are up next week and they've had some time to monitor them.
Buy a game, can't play it because of thousands of AFK players fuckin' standing around taking up spaces I and others could be using for actually playing.
Ya theres really no logic to it...and the only people like openly against it have probably been signed on since like a week ago haha
I have nothing against AFK players when there isn't a problem regarding those who want to enter and play.
But its dumb to let ppl stay in the game for more than 24 hours just to "hold a spot". If everybody thinks this way, NO ONE ever will log in. Yeah, it sucks to have queue and stuff, but you know what sucks even more? You wait 4 hours trying to log in, you get in, start to gather something or switch map and get a random disconnect.
Square-Enix should really implement a system for kicking players that aren't actively playing. While it's understandable that many of us don't have any other option than to remain logged in to avoid the multitude of server issues, it isn't fair to those who haven't been able to play at all due to server slots being taken up by idle toons. Each slot is incredibly valuable right now and a simple timed kick system would help to alleviate a bit of the load on the servers.
My wife has been logged in for some 18 hours now and played maybe 3 of them.
And guess what? I tell here to leave it logged in so she doesn't have to go through 1017 bullshit when she gets a few hours to play.
Every person that is saying not to put into place an AFK kicker are there very @$$e$ that are staying logged in. I have gotten to play for maybe 1 hour in the last 2 days because EVERY NA/EU world is full. People keep talking about how adding new servers on Wednesday is going to fix a lot of this but what do you say to the people that are on Legacy Worlds that can't just hope on a new one. I have canceled 2 of my pre-orders I had for this game because I am unable to log in and I am not about to put my wife through this BS because people want to stay on while they are asleep for hours then get up play for 20 minutes before school or work. I have another fix that is very simple to fixing the AFK'ers, shut down the game for 1 minutes randomly every 4-6 hours to boot the AFK'ers. That would fix them.
Nope and - frankly - it SOO easy to overcome anyway if you really want to constantly idle while AFK so I do understand why is SE not wasting their time on this really.
It also level balance on the server. All the AFK players are maxlvl, while players like me that cant logg in are barely past lvl 25 on their starter jobs.
Not so fun playing on server where your so far behind, but at the same time HATE to start over on another server
Either way, SE gotta fix this balls or people are gonna start mass rage quitting, and that's only gonna hurt them in the long run.
