A wee bit ridiculous no? error 1017 and now 2002. I paid for this? That opening cinematic is not worth my $30. plus with error 2002 i can't even stare at that until my server opens up.

Wait 'til Wednesday to see if they fix it or quit now and try to get a refund. Up to you.
well at least you're honest and direct lol.
Is the official procedure to request a refund posted? I don't want to throw any rocks or anything, just cut my loses is all.
I dunno but the opening music and Character music is drivin' me up the damn wall.
I can't even spam today...I want to..I may but I don't think I have it in me.
yes they have a rocky start.. just wait a couple of days. Jeez... everyone is soo entiled! They are doing their best and communicating it ALL... patience! :)
You know...I've been very patient about all this even though I've been locked out for at least a chunk of each day since OB4. And I'll continue to give them some more time to see how things look after Wednesday. But what you said is just plain wrong. First, this "you're so entitled" line is getting realllllllllllllly old. Yes, people are acting entitled...To a product that they paid for and have high hopes in. Sure, we're not being charged for a sub yet, but we have put down money for a game that hasn't properly worked most of the time we've access to it yet. Hopefully that will change soon...But really, adding new servers without giving us the chance to transfer off the crowded ones isn't automatically going to fix the issues. But we'll hope...
Secondly, they are most certainly NOT communicating it all. Just a half an hour ago, the launcher page finally updated that there are connection problems they are aware of...On the JP servers. Still no mention of the fact that the last "update" claiming they had "addressed" the NA/EU errors from yesterday was blatantly false. And then no mention of the fact that we have been getting lobby errors since at least 6am EST (maybe earlier, but that's when I first tried.)
So yeah, have hope in the game. It's great, when you can get in. But please, stop insulting the intelligence of the community by suggesting that it is a sense of unearned entitlement that has people wanting to play the game they paid for, and that SE has been even remotely effective in actually communicating with us. Yoshi's letters are nice little sentimental "Oops, sorry" moments but that's about all they are.
I hope this game gets on track because it really is a great game. But don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.
I'm on the same boat as you, I wish SE would actually try for once.
No they not.
We get a damn update once in a blue moon.
Tickets get closed, no one replies to them, they mark them as not important.
Servers shoulda been fixed now. We are entitled, because we spent money on this game and we cannot play it.
It's frustrating. Now people are getting inpatient, but man if Wednesday comes here and shit still goes to hell.
I really don't know what they can do. AFK system may be of great help. Otherwise, bust in the system.
I don't like people who try to calm the crowd and tell us to be patient, with all due respect, but you're just aiming yourself right slap dab
in a middle of a snipers range. I can't even White Knight for no one because this is full out ridiculous.
Most peoples who tell us to chill is probably ones up there AFKing sittin' on a tree never needing to log out and playing.
Now I love this game and I'm not going to up and leave, but I really...really hope once this blows over we won't have anymore
serious problems like this for loooooong time if ever again.
So here's what I don't understand. SE acknowledges their system is broken and tell us that it won't be fixed until Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, and they say that in order to compensate for lost playing time they're going to extend our free play period.
Waiting until Wednesday sucks, but it is what it is. At least they told us.
But I don't get why people keep trying to play and aggravating themselves into rage-quit territory. Go play something else this weekend. Let them deploy their fix and see if it actually fixes things. If it doesn't, then by all means rage quit (I will!).
But trying to play on a holiday weekend (in the US anyway) when the servers are busted is just like slamming your forehead into a concrete wall and hoping somehow you're going to knock a hole through the wall. All you're going to get is a headache out of it.
All my friends are rage-quitting and all they're doing is hurting themselves since they already paid for the game and I don't believe they're persistent enough to get a refund. I'd rage-quit too if I'd spent the last 4 days trying and failing to log into a game.
Step away, let SE fix it, and come at it fresh. MMOs are marathons, not sprints, and in the overall scope of things not playing this first week isn't going to gimp you -- and now that SE has said they'll compensate us for the downtime, we don't have that clock-ticking pressure to play, either.
i havent been able to log in for four days now because of error 1017
This is only an opinion and a stray thought, not meant to offend.
That being said, I have to wonder when people say be patient if these are people who actually paid for the game themselves (i.e. did their parents buy the game for them) or is it someone independantly wealthy who can afford to throw good money after bad.
It matters because that generally will determine your attitude towards getting poor customer service or a poor product.
When you actually have to work for every cent you spend it became a lot more personal when you wasted your money on something for example.
More importantly, how did you get away with 30$ I paid 40$.... :)
Also, if you are on Holiday like in NA right now, it can be a bit daunting when you don't get to spend that one extra day off from work the way you had planned (wheter it is gaming, going to the beach, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, what have you) and it ticks you off when companies don't take that into consideration. Not that they should or shouldn't it is just a "thing" that is annoying.
Kind of like dogs eating your turkey on Christmas and you having to go to a Chinese restaurant instead....oh no wait, that was a movie...
In this case WoW is the Chinese restaurant and FFXIV is the turkey...just saying...
It's funny how all the players who are logged in 24/7 (*cough* AFK'ers *cough*) tells the rest of us the be patient and wait it out. They can play when they want and never have to try logging in for 2 - 4 hours so sure they can be "patient" and "wait it out" lol.
It's raining !!
I log out when i'm done as well. Maybe when I do that someone else can get in. Its not hard to be courteous and think of someone else besides yourself !
Same complaint thats why they remove them probably. They are working on it and we will see wednesday or Thursday.
You really think they dont read those ? The more people that walk before its fixed the better.
Do you think if we encounter another issue like this again in the future that the game will survive its first year? I suppose SE is smart in that its financing it with its own money, suggesting that they wont have the pressures of investors demanding returns. For that reason, the game will never switch F2P, which has ruined so many great games.
Still, if this isnt fixed properly on wednesday, more and more players will find other games to go to. I'm sticking it out because I'm a persistent old man, but I'll always have a bad taste in my mouth over this whole thing.
I hope I paid for it. My grandkids wont do it !
I still dont think I wasted my money, It takes time to get new things off the ground. If I have to limp along for a few weeks, so be it. It looks like now I may be in luck after that if all the "blow hards" that threaten to quit, do. But they wont they just like to complain
I hear that WoW is needing players. They might welcome you. hehe
Hahaha...people are so entitled, eh?
If you buy something, you really are E-N-T-I-T-L-E-D to it. Fanboys make me sad, they can't even stand up for themselves--like they owe SE something.
Consumers can't just put up with stuff like this, it's their right and duty to demand what they paid for.
Most Supermarkets dont refund fresh produce because there is no expiration date market on it.
And one could say if you bought a piece of fruit without checking it out first, took it home and it was rotten, it was your own negligence and ignorance that caused the purchase.
Fortunately that's not the same case here.
In this instance, SE promised and hyped up this game to get us all excited about it, and failed to deliver an experience that would keep us hooked for years to come. They killed their own hype with the failure of their poor planning. So they advertised a steak, and gave us ground beef.
We'll still eat, and be fed up. But it will never be as satisfying as the steak would have been.
The server issues can be excused , since they said there is a fixed on the way and large demand for the game. Yet how they could not see there was a lot of people that pre-order the game , not expect a large based. that is lack of judgement. Now the really big issues is there customer service system. Last monday 8/26/13, It made the second account error on my account. With the digital download on the ps3 version of the game, went straight from tos to create account to my account and created acc#2. my ticket number then was only 2,60million number. Now other night made a new one 2.67mil. That 70k users that had made tickets. This is also with them not even taken people tickets anymore. And there been no support or very limited support EU. That really getting old fast since there all on holiday for NA players.
Ok there are a 2 things you have to explain to me:
1. No matter how E-N-T-I-T-L-E-D you are your bitching (sorry) won't fix the error faster. It's pretty much the other way. Have you ever in your life experienced pressure in your job? It almost never has a positive effect.
2. How many hours did you play exactly to reach lv 50? 20 hours? 30? Well no matter you were obviously able to play quite a lot since release and now that you can't play the game for a day you act like this? Pitiful .. really pitiful.
I don't get why you complain, really. Are you already addicted or is it simply that you have no life whatsoever? Sad ...
If they give me back all the days I wasn't able to play on I might forgive them a bit. Because right now we paid for a limited amount of time. Them messing up most things for close to a week is not acceptable.
Not to mention there really ain't any "Europe" servers as they are all located in Canada. Or so I heard. Might be true because I get the same ping on all of them and it says "Good" but I still have 2 second delay. I have Excellent ping on Japanese Servers which is fun because they are further away than Canada is. Me being in Sweden.
If this is going to be normal I will not buy another month of time. Also the game is a pretty generic MMORPG with very little originality.
My rl friends are fed up with this game / company already, due to all the 1017 errors / cant create a character etc etc.
We have played a lot of games from launch and Free to Play games were much smoother than this to be honest.
Doing their best would have been to make sure their second attempt after the first FFXIV horribly failed worked like clockwork. Saying things like "We underestimated the amount of people" is marginally acceptable for the first time around without a botched same-named project in the past looming around. But, when you fail and try to make up for your failure, you don't underestimate...
Like any other company would have, they should have overestimated their user base, avoided massive issues like a large multitude of players being locked out with no proper ETA or queue and things may have been great for them.
We know you like the game and maybe even love Square Enix, but... These people have every right to be disgruntled and every right to post about it in a forum section about technical support and issues. Which is more of an entitled person? The ones posting their issues in a forum made by the company to post issues? Or, the person calling everyone 'entitled' because they don't share the same level of patience as them?
So... complaining about technical issues in a forum here to voice technical issues is... wrong?
Pressure doesn't help in the workplace? Doesn't have a positive effect? Wow, I want your comfy job. All these big firms and corporations must have it wrong. My fiancee works for Toyota and he's on tight deadline with massive pressure daily and that's just how companies typically seem to work. I'm an aesthetician here in Japan and I am worked well beyond the point of 'a few letters on a forum pressure'. Pressure gets results. I'm sorry it's not a pat on the back but sometimes people need a kick in the ass as opposed to a pat on the back.
This isn't kindergarten where we give out chocolates and gold stars for emotional effort. This is the second time this game has been released and this is their second try at fixing a failed project. People we promised the world and given procrastination once their purchase was made.
If a technical issue of a game upsets an individual and they complain about it in a forum specifically set up to voice such a technical issue is having no life whatsoever... Then, what is bitching at a person on a forum that doesn't really apply to you when you clearly don't think it's worth while to voice an opinion about it just for the sake of bitching at them called?
It's funny...a lot of the people I see raging talking about they are going to quit say something like this "I spent 30-40$ on this and can't even play it" that is hysterical to me.i payed 80 and can't play it so how do you think I feel. Or others who have the ce. Just wait a few days and calm down, I'm sure everything will be resolved as far as log ins are concerned. Then I'm sure down the line, not far, they will implement the afk timer and log in Q's. if on Thursday these issues still persist rage all you want as it will be more than justified, but for now just give them a chance and see what happens on Wednesday.
And no I'm not a fanboy who is defending or sucking up to se. I just believe they will straighten it out. Sure they made a few mistakes but they already told us they are working it out.
But don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.
^^^^This.
It's been a week. Waiting a few days is over. They should have seen the need for a lot of servers on the release day when the servers where overloaded. It released early in the week so they should have had time to do that.
Also they lock down character creation on most servers, making it incredible hard to play with friends. Took me 3 days just to make a character on Siren server. But this was late at night and then in the morning and the whole next day I couldn't login.
The character I have on my profile is on another server and I got to 16.
Also none of us are saying that you're less worth for paying more or should be less angry. We all paid for a certain amount of days and we have not been able to use it for several of them.
I agree with OP, im about ready to reinstall Guild Wars 2
this is just getting ridiculous
We have been waiting six days already!!! Their is no sense of urgency at SE they are acting like Blizzard and saying "it will get done when it gets done". At least announce an extension on the 30 days of free pay will put players at ease. I mean come on it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out good customer service and management
I mean SE is still running TV commercials. Why are they running a commercial for a game THAT DOESN'T WORK!!! Whenever I see that commercial I can imagine the elf dude saying "live the 1017" rather then "live the fantasy"
The game works just fine. Its the servers that r having the problem.
I count about 5 or so here that r quitting, or at least they say they are. Not happening
They keep putting me in a que and then 1017, this company is a joke. They sure collected the money for the game, but then they want you to jump through a million hoops to get it back. No wonder these jokers keep releasing flops and when then finally get a good one can't support it......., they say they are monitoring the servers 24/7, how about using that time to fix them? If I had purchased my copy from a physical store it would be returned already! And yes when purchasing a product you are entitled to a functioning product and service. If you pay someone for a TV and you get it home, your cable hooks up, but guess what it won't come on but randomly........do you say oh well I was not entitled to a functioning product, or do you return that piece?
