Botany makes me question my self worth.

I am at level 43 Botany, and I have to say it is without a doubt the most mindless grind I have ever endured in a video game. Is there something I am missing, or is it really just a monumental grind? Right now it is something like 250-275 nodes per level, just makes no sense at all.

Seriously, what did you expect?

Did ou inform yourself what gathering was in version 1.x ?

Do leves, exp rewards from them are pretty huge.

Gathering leves give you just over 3% xp in return you get no materials, i'd hardly call that huge :P

Depends on the leve I would say. When I was doing a leve around 22 it was giving me the exp PLUS double if I fulfilled the optional requirement, not to mention the exp from gathering. Only trade off being like you said no materials.

Leves are good but, yeah it will be a grind.

took under 3 hours to go from 47 to 50 miner using levequests. I would say that's pretty damn fast.

Gathering takes no resources or investment (other than gear) to accomplish. It's designed to be a grind.

I will tell you that doing my CRP and ALC at the same time has kept my Botanist very busy trying to get HQ items to complete Tradecraft Leves for them. But if you're a stand alone BOT just slamming away at nodes..... You're right... but that's how you chose to do it.

The games not even been out a couple weeks and you're already at level 43. I have a feeling you don't know what a "grind" is.

I sort of have to agree, while I can HQ crafts and get 200%+ xp per craft if I don't break it there's nothing special for botanists. It's the same low xp every time. I'm constantly trying to catch up with botanist to keep up with the other crafts.

If you could focus on HQ items as a gathering class, it would go by faster, but that's kinda hard :) at least until later (50+)

Well it is pretty long, but is it that bad ? I just got 40 with pure grind except 9 or 10 leves. By just grinding, it takes 90+ minutes to get a single level which seems long, but this is an MMO supposed to last months. Heck, I'd say it's even supposed to eat trough the huge amount of time I got.

Honestly, I find it pretty exciting, I am in a trading linkshell with a few devoted 40-50 crafters and gatherers, it feels unique to be part of such a small group that has the patience required.

Also, if you want a trick, minimize the game and watch a movie or something. Personally, I use my laptop next to my screen for that and it makes things more enjoyable !

BTN isn't a craft... The "special" thing is once you buy gear you're done. 100% profit. It's for making money not smiles.

You can use your xp bonus to speed it up, or those xp things from the GC's. Also as mentioned higher level leves give so much xp its ridiculous.

It's the exact same with mining. If you don't want to do leves then my only advice is to focus more on using Bot to get craft materials/make money. The levels will come by themselves and you will make progress in other fields as well.

Sorry but I don't find your answer useful or supportive. I use gathering professions to aid with crafting professions, I'd rather not spend all my gil on wood and crystals I can get myself.

My crafts are 15 levels higher than my gathering professions and I'm only getting 200ish xp per item. The leves I have my level only give 10k max since none of them have me collecting HQ items I could turn in for 300% bonus. At the end of the day week I'm bored and feeling like I've accomplished nothing since all I've done is run around the same 4-5 trees gathering crystals and pigments that I have no use for and everything else is on hold until I can start gathering oak wood.

World mobs, world exper from gathering, they don't scale. It has always been like this and I have been complaining about it since 2010 and SE has been ignoring me since 2010. If even 15% of the population on a server gets 50 in all 3 Gathering classes and puts their surplus materials on the market board, every player in FF14 will have enough stuff to level all the crafts. There would be enough dark steel to make 50 sets of HQ armor for every character, every class that uses it, in the game. All because they don't want us to OW grind.

Then gather stuff you have use for. Most recently, I gathered lots of yew and gil buns, and I'll use most or all of it. Or research the market a little, and find something(s) that will turn a nice profit.

Edit: Also, Fieldcraft leves aren't just about the final xp reward—you will likely get a good chunk of xp while accomplishing it. Leve nodes allow you to gather up to 6 times, in my experience, which means better chain bonuses if you don't fail.

does anyone know if the bonus for Survival Manual available at the GC apply when doing leves? i know it won't affect the reward, but i'm interested to know if it applies while hitting the leve nodes.

It does apply to the leve nodes when actually gathering the stuff, I use em all the time when doing leves, and I can guarntee you it gives the 50% bonus on leve nodes. So yeah, go ahead and use em with leves, its pretty damn fast to lv miner/bot when you do that. Its not like seals are hard to get either, just run some fates and bam. I do think they need to up the exp per hit a bit though, its a tad too low. Because lets face it, mining/botany is really no fun at all to level. Though thankfully its not like it was in 1.0.

Its bascally a choice, do you wanna level at a snails pace but get alot of mats? or do you wanna level it faster but get no materials?

I've been trying to catch my Botanist up with my Weaver so I can gather loads of flax, and it has been going soooooooo sllllllloooow.

Though I still am excited to get back on and push through the grid to unlock y lvl31-40 gathering sheet and get to it!! I must be some sort of masochist. . . though its mostly because I want to lvl Weaver more. . . Sigh. My White Mage is going to be stuck on Titan for a while methinks!

Barely anything makes a good profit these days. All the pigments were just vendor trash since they were going for only 1g each on the market. It's much harder to find anything worthwhile too when there are no trees that give any wood or anything valuable until you can move onto the next grade, like levels 25-30 the only item worthwhile is crystals for crafting as all the trees for those levels only give either shards, crystals, pigment or grade 2 carbonized matter. I didn't look into what vegetation patches gave so I may have done better farming those instead but I decided wind crystals might be more important later on so I did nothing but farm those. I now have over 300 of them.
