To everyone complaining about not being able to get into the game...

I just want to say this; You DO realize that this problem is a result of an overwhelming number of people trying to play, right? That the game is just WAY more popular than they expected? You can't increase server capacity overnight, have a little patience. It's only been a week since official launch, and they're implementing the first big fix on it tomorrow.
No need to get riled up just because you can't play right now.

You know what would happen if they removed the restrictions? The servers would go haywire, and then NO ONE would play, just like BEFORE they implemented the restrictions.

So please, calm down, take a deep breath, find some other hobby while you wait. It isn't the end of the world, and your money isn't wasted. The game will be there and ready when the fixes are done.

I waited 3 years to play this game, you can't wait a week? The instant-gratification attitude I see running rampant in these forums is painful.

It's been said before, but I'll say it again. If your game's worst problem is too many people are trying to play it at the same time, you're doing a damn good job. Anyone who is going to quit altogether because they can't play right this second is better off elsewhere. I'd personally rather not play with them anyway as they're the same kinds of people who ragequit dungeons because they died once or twice.

If people are gonna jump ship after 1 week, chances are they aren't the type of players they want playing their game anyway and probably wouldn't last more than a few months.

Better to have the servers packed at launch then to add too many server and have them become ghost towns six months down the road. Not being able to get in just makes people want to get in even more, despite their protests. This is just the initial zerg of players who are trying out the game, and a lot of these people won't be around in the near future anyway. I think these days there's a large crowd of players who, deep down inside, are addicted to the genre but bored of it. They'll play the crap out of a MMO and then complain there is nothing to do, quitting and moving on to the next big thing. Nothing wrong with that--it's hard to devote thousands of hours to one game when there are so many out there.

No. The problem is a failure to prepare for the capacity of people who want to play. You're trying to avoid placing the blame squarely where it belongs.

Their account management systems have been a nightmare - multiple account creation pages - from the actual SE site, to the SE Store Site, to the Forums to the mogstation - codes and email delays -

The problem is the fact that 80% of all servers are selfish AFK rejects - though they are smart - because capacity is 5k per server and that number is absolutely primitive and laughable.

Well unlike other MMO's it was very hard to predict how popular this game would be. Pre-Order sales ain't enough to go on. The fact that this was a previous MMO means that all the 1.0 players have been re-invited with free game time they don't even have to be active players just people who picked up FF14 1.0 at some point. That alone could stand to be 500,000 - 1,000,000 + people. yet on the other side of the coin none could of came back and they would be dealing with new players only.


At some point Square had to sit down and reach a middle-ground with predicted sales and returning players. Obviously they got it wrong but there's no sense dwelling on it. There planning to fix it and compensate by wednesday. If they fail to get it sorted then, well by all means scream the forums down.

Yes, it's very unreasonable to buy a game and expect you'll actually get to play it. So tired of all these whiners who think they're entitled to play the game they sent money on. Don't they know what a gift it is that Square-Enix even graced them with the PRIVILEGE of making an account at all?!?!

Except not, 5k concurrent users is more than any single NA World of Warcraft server gets at peak hours. In fact, the *average* NA World of Warcraft server has just about 1100 concurrent users at peak hours (http://www.warcraftrealms.com/activity.php). The biggest, Stormrage, has an estimated 4300. (These figures aren't perfect, since they rely on the use of a datamining mod for WoW, though.)

After the tremendous loss suffered by SQ-E on FFxiv 1.0 I can understand the reluctance to anticipate the volumn of players early on. Though certainly they should have had some idea of how well it was selling. That being said, and in realizing just how awesome this game is, I suggest we let SQ-E get it fixed but also that subs not be started until they do. That just seems fair.

Actually part of the problem is the fact many players are sat in game for days AFK just so they don't have to queue... Yes the game is popular, and yes all MMO games have queues at launch. If there was an idle timer however, it wouldn't be as much of a pain in the ass. Still, I agree, have a little patience. Yeah SE might lose a few players because of this, but I'm sure the majority like myself, who have waited for this since 1.0 was announced, will stick around to play the awesome new version~

Having given Sq-E a piece of my mind after Endwalker launch I also wish to commend SQ-E for their wilingness to step up and support their product. No launch is perfect and I concider SQ-E to be somewhat negligent in not being prepared, again , for server capacity issues at launch. But I also realize that everything is not under the control of SQ-e. Still , they stepped up and took responsibility for a less than perfect launch and listened to the concerns of their subscribers. For that they deserve credit and for the fact they have created the best mmo on the market today so that , in spite of all these issues , My subscription is solid and I will continue to play FFxiv now and on into future expansions.

Blame the peple responsible for the mistake, not the people who are supposed to enjoy the service for being frustrated. Thanks. Every voice matters.

Last time I checked those words didn't mean laughing at Blizzard's community because their management didn't care about them while we had to excuse ours because they didn't deign to buy servers during their most profitable years so we didn't have to queue for 8 hours in front of the screen and turn against each other. Maybe I'm being harsh but after years of abuse from gaming companies I know people are used to it and it takes time to realise, but you have dignity as a customer. Demand it. The higher-ups don't care about you, don't fool yourself.

I think the amount and severity of the backlash has been too much, and I do agree that if the queues are causing people legitimate stress they should try to find other things to chill with while waiting

But I think it's a mischaracterisation to say the people complaining are asking for restrictions to be removed or new servers to be bought overnight. People do grasp these technical limitations (At least to a certain extent), and most are commenting that more should have been done pre-emptively rather than expecting massive fixes now.

I also disagree a bit on the "The game will be there and money isn't wasted" bit. Its definitely true that the game will be there in future, but when and how you can play a game definitely factors into it's value as entertainment. The story will always be as good, but if you pre ordered under the promise you'd be able to play at 'early' access then you didn't receive what you pre-ordered.

Now to me, Square giving out free playtime more than makes up for these issues, and Im really content to spend my time with other games as I wait. But I think the community go a bit far in picking faction-like sides when it comes to issues like this. Its possible to both sympathise with the causes of the problem on the company side of things while also realising it is a legitimate issue that consumers didn't get the thing they were marketed.

That all said I think most of this drama will die into memes by friday.

OP saying they couldnt anticipate the popularity is lazy thinking. They have a whole marketing team, some of whom should easily be able to track popularity in MANY ways such as streamer engagement (which we know they do), pre-order numbers, and the general increase in player count over the past year. EU were already experiencing queues both peak and off peak BEFORE endwalker dropped. In marketing campaigns they boast about how many registered users there are, a massive 400% on the number we had in Heavenward yet where are the servers??? SE just wont pay the price of the server hardware upgrades which is a huge insult given how many subscriptions are landing in their pockets.

I second this point. I'm very on Squares side when it comes to the semiconductor shortage (clearly if a company like Sony cant get chips then Square cant atm), but EU has had issues for years even outside of expansion launches, and this wont be the last time this comes up. In future they really need to look into working on the European infrastructure when things smooth over a bit.

People forget that the login times will drop by a week significantly. Sure its hella annoying to wait for hours to play the game, even get dc'd while in the que. But purchasing more hardware or servers only for a week of full bustling servers - aint really worth it.

I don't think this is fair at all.

Firstly, when I am able to log into and play the game, I'm loving all the hard work that's gone into this expansion. The team should be really proud of the game that they've been able to create and I am absolutely loving the story.

That being said, I am not enjoying the queues and I think that its ok to be critical of that and the response that we've gotten so far. Clearly, a lot of people pre-ordered this game with the hope of being able to play it early - and it was nice to see that we will be getting a minimum of 7 days play time as compensation - but Square did know how many people were pre ordering and they do know the total number of people that can be on the game at any one time. Now its great that the game is popular, but its not great if that popularity is destroying the quality of the gaming experience, and having 2, 3 or more hour queues is doing that. The hard work of the development team is being let down I think by the large queues and I worry that even a compelling story wont dispel all of the frustration that those queues generate.

Also, it is fair to point out that copies of Endwalker are still on sale and if you're continuing to sell an oversubscribed game without having any further infrastructure plans - then I think the players should be able to be critical of that decision?

You almost correct. It just that 5he game was getting more players the past year. Then WOW,new world and NGS floped. 2 of this was openly stayed by all was played up to end walker. Ff14 have lof in wait rim for the past half year at last. So what did SE did not expected here? The shortages? This was going for the past 3 years so good time to upgrade if they really wanted.what more getting new servers is easy even now(know first hand). So stop defending a corporation it's not going to love you in return.

All of the problems you've listed there aside from the account management system with multiple account creation pages are all server congestion related problems. As you rightly say, they're not capable of handling the load. Normally the way to deal with that is to spread the load across more servers. However, that's the one thing they cannot do. Spread the load across more servers. They've not been able to procure more servers due to the global semiconductor shortage that's impacted many electronics manufacturers.

Where the blame belongs is on that issue.

I'm not sure what better solution there is that doesn't exclude people from playing the game. Sadly, it's not as if they can use use "any old server" either as I expect there are certain specifications they need to work to for stability and compatibility.

If people have a better solution, then for sure, I'm game for them posting them and making something constructive out of this. But this really seems to be the crux of the issue and why people can't get in.

I feel like a lot of people posting on this page haven't read the date on the OP...

This. I have seen enough of those people working in customer service at a store back in the day. Whining for the sake of whining. The devs are communicating and apologizing left and right, telling us what the problem is and which steps they are taking, what do they want more? They were very aware that this would happen and warned us days before. Server blades are almost impossible to get since at least March of this year and this influx of people started in Summer, so there.

Instant gratification syndrome is something that came to pass because parents didn't teach their children boundaries for snotty behaviour. Very rampant in more wealthy countries.

Sure, we will just wait. Wait maybe a week. Servers will still be full. Two weeks from now servers will still be full. A month from now servers will still be full. Hell, might as well unsub and come back in a year or so, maybe they might have this figured out by then.

Thank you for phrasing this better than I was going to. People on here are calling upset people like me "Entitled". I can only speak for myself but I preordered EW, I took time off work to be home this week (i'm a trucker) to play and the reason I cannot play is because I CAN'T GET THROUGH THE 5K+ QUE because the server keeps disconnecting me. I did get in for 20 whole minutes this morning only to be disconnected by the server again. Entitled? Nah, i'm just a regular dude that believes that when you pay for something then you should get it. All launches have problems but THEY KNEW THIS WAS COMING and did nothing to prevent it. That is not right and it is what it is.

i hate that i remember this thread from 2013

The problem is the lack of measures for the queues. There should be some grace periods if you DC or get a queue error.
