Cross-server friending needs to happen

All you hear about is the drama in dungeon finder, how the tank raged or the healer couldn't heal or the dps couldn't outdps the scholar's pet.

Thrice now, I've had exceptional groups, people who pay attention, do what's asked. Just now I did a Cutter's Cry where we had no deaths til the end boss, wiped once, went back and fought him again and started to wipe so the BLM and my paladin duo'd the last 20%. 3/4 of us were completely new to the instance. One guy gave good explanations and everyone did fantastic.

We can't requeue, we can't keep going, we get to take the luck of the draw again and hope the next tank isn't a ****, the next healer isn't watching TV, and the dps can't pay attention to what's slept.

That sucks.

Last night I had a sunken temple with two of the coolest people I've met in this vidya game. We're now following each other on ffxiv.com so that we've sort of bookmarked each other so that if they ever add cross server friending, we can have some fun again.

Point is, I'm having a blast. I'm trucking along, I'm a good tank and I like to stay with people that are also giving equal effort. I don't mind wipes and haven't ragequit a group ever, but I love it when I find a group that will listen.

Another Sunken Temple run, I explicitly asked one dragoon to solo one of the blocks onto a button so that I could get the other. Two blocks don't path well together. This person was happy to do so, but the other dragoon was raging in party chat "TANK, TANK, ****ing TANK", lol. The rest of the group knew what was up but this silly guy.... this silly guy.

So yeah, clearly had one person who pays attention and another who was busy eating poptarts, I don't know. I would love to end up with the attentive dragoon again, Saucie Frass, even though there's about a 0.001% chance of that.

Further, the ability to send tells while in instances needs to happen. I understand why it doesn't work, but I also know that it can, and HOW it can work. Simply that the chat box needs to maintain a separate connection to your home server. This has worked in other cross-server dungeon finders, there is no excusable reason why it doesn't work here.

Edit: Of course there are other things to fix first, like Squitten mentions servers, and that's important. Among non-bugs/techninal problems, this is probably one of the most important things though IMO.

Edit #2: Remember as well that most of us came from different games, particularly FFXI so we already have gaming friends. I was torn, one of my ls's started one on server and the other is now starting on another. I'd love to play with the other guys again, without rolling a character over there.

Let them fix servers first please.

It's ridiculous that you can't friend people off of your server or send tells while in an instance. These things should have been in before the beta ended.

They should also add the ability to form parties with people on your friends list (from other servers), especially given how difficult it is to play this game with friends right now.

Didn't know you couldn't friend same-server people within an instance, but I suppose that makes sense since friendlist isn't accessible. I agree, it's silly and should be fixed.

Yeah, this. This is the whole point^^, I don't want to just add people, I want to be able to form with them before I queue up.

So far my DF experiences have been great, would definitely like to see cross-server friends list.

Same happened to me, i found players who were competent,friendly and they behave like normal people.The rest of the dungeons runs were like playing with bots,no one talked,no one played as a team etc...
It would be very usefull to add this option, since i would like to play this game like this,having fun and make more good friends like these players.

i'm fed up with people that can't control their temper and act like idiots.

i wan't to block them, so i never ever again will end up in duty finder with them.
what's the point even to use duty finder, act like a dick, make everyone leave and after leave yourself.yea, to waste my time -_-

I agree. If they add one, they will need to add the other. So far my experience has been great, and sometimes I even feel a bit sad/hopeful that I will cross paths again with some people I've teamed up with at the Duty Finder. But just like that, I'm aware there must be some real jerks out there I would never want to team up with again. Sadly I believe there was a response by the Dev team mentioning that this would not be possible. Why? I don't know. I believe it has been done in other games before. Here's to wishful thinking!

I'd totally support a cross-server friend feature. I've saved the names of the GLD, SCH, and ACN that ran Haukke Manor with me. They were so decent and open to my questions, and to our getting stomped during the run at times. No blame games. No temper tantrums. On top of that, some good folks I met during closed beta through the DF are now on Cactuar with me and it's fantastic.

I just ran a great Wanderer's with Vivio Takamachi & Motoko Gettou of Midgard and Kinpira Kinlesca of Excalibur. Prob never gonna meet them again, though :(.

I totally support both ideas: friend list to keep in touch with nice players, block feature to never cross paths with ***** again. (though, admittedly, if the former doesn't happen, then the latter has few chances to happen as well, but that's besides the point).

Wholeheartedly agree. I've met some great players (and people) in DF and I would've loved to add them ; ;. One of them even asked "add me to your friends please" and it broke my heart when I knew I would probably never meet those players again...

Please Yoshi-P, think about this, find a way to code this. Adding people from other servers and talking to them cross-server would be so great and would bring a lot to the community.

I think it might have come up in discussion about allowing cross-server friending. Problem is in how to talk to said friends. I think /tell can't talk outside of server. And I don't think it should. Before you flame me, think about how many problems the duty finder and instance servers have had since launch. Those are the only servers able to communicate with other servers at present. Piggyback on them /tell traffic and you get issues like before. Honestly, I think it'd probably be better if they added cross-server to the mail system, like done in XI with it's messaging system. I could get behind that.

After reading through thread, I'm not sure how they would implement some of these things, but I really hope they do something/anything to allow you to communicate through game again with ppl that you've met through duty finder or ppl that happen to be on a different server already that you meet later on! I would love to group up with duty finder with some ppl in RL that are not on my server.

Most importantly , I wholeheartedly agree that we need a way to block ppl we never want to be grouped with in duty finder again.

Of course, as others stated, there are other things that can be worked on at the moment but no reason not to have the requests of what we want in the future out there. I would say FFXIV has done a pretty good job implementing features that were requested -- even if it took a while.

I'm sure this will get the typical "gu bakc 2 wOw" response, but it really is one of those things that they've done that is nothing short of absolutely amazing:

With their battle.net system, you can add people to your friends list cross server. You can talk with them cross server, and you can even invite them to a group cross server. They recently took it a step further with their cross realm zoning (I don't expect this here anytime soon, if ever), where when you join a friends party it moves you to their realm. You can see, interact, and play with them as if you were on the very same server. Leave the group, and *poof* you're back on your home realm. Not on the same realm? No problem, because it doesn't matter anymore.

It even lets you talk to your friends when they aren't even playing the same game as you. None of SEs game are really set up for that, nor do they make many games that would even be able to utilize it, but it's something to consider for just how well things can be setup for communication between players.

Know what else we need? A way invite friends/LS/FC members to our dungeon group if we are missing a member and someone you know can fill it. It's pure luck whether you find your friend's dungeon server and I think it'd be nice if we could directly invite them.
