Weird Regen Hate?
Hey everyone, I'm not a healer (yet), but I was doing the lvl 44 Garuda battle last night and was introduced to the weird concept of latent 'Regen Hate'. Fast forward to losing about 8 battles in a row, the WHM started casting regen and stoneskin on everyone before the battle started just try and find an edge that might help, but I noticed very quickly that I wasn't able to hold hate in the beginning even after Provoke + 2-3 flashes. One cure would immediately set it off to the WHM. I honestly thought I was missing a flash on her, but my WHM had said that it must have been the regen's and once he stopped doing that...the hate control went back to normal o.O
I didn't get to talk to him about it because we kept working that fight from the 90 minute mark down to the 10 until we won, but I found the concept extremely odd. In XI, Regen was ideal in a lot of ways because it didn't carry hate beyond its initial casting, so I'm confused about how it's handled in this game. Can any experienced healers clue me in? Was it specifically regen or just a general 'buff' hate?

From my experience in groups / dungeons so far regen seems to be one of the biggest enmity drawing abilities for me. If there are multiple applications of regen going at once when adds spawn or when a pull is about to start you can just expect everything to go straight for the healer.

The issue is in this game contrary to most MMO's overhealing counts towards hate. That is why regen generates so much enmity at the start of the fight when you pre-HoT everyone.
-
It does generate enmity each tick, so even if the healer isn't actively doing anything, if no one is holding (sleep or actively attacking) each enemy, they will run straight to the healer. For now, against bosses I've found one regen on the tank and cure for pretty much everything else (still often on the tank) is enough, and the HP buffer from stoneskin give the tank enough time to grab the boss's attention.
-
If a party engages a pack with regen active then everything is going to rush the healer unless the tank is super quick to pick everything up. Casting regen before a pull is not a good idea.
-
regen generate hate each tick. If your healer cast regen on 4 ppl before pull, it is obvious enough that healer will die.

Personally, I think it's a little silly that overheals give aggro. It's the only MMO I've played that does this, and I see absolutely no reason for it. Apparently, you can just spam Medica in FATEs as well and get Gold every time. Kind of broken.

I have the same problem, I am tanking titan most of the time and I think regen is the problem

It seems overhealing causes enmity (hate) in this game, so casting regen on everyone is a nice way to get killed fast for a healer. I would only use it on the main tank and on others that don't need imminent healing and are missing 25% hp or less.

I wait until after casting cure 1 or 2, three or four times before putting regen on the tank. And DPS only when their HP isn't full. EI, when Titan does his stomp.. Cure 1 or 2 tank, regen me, cure tank if needed, regen tank, cure tank if needed, then regen the DPS. I found this to be more MP effective/less hate generating over time than medica, with the group I was in.
In dungeons, kind of the same thing. Only DPS generally don't need regen. So I cure tank 3 or 4 times, then put regen on them so long as we still have a few mobs left to kill. I will not cast it if there is one squishy mob left, cause usually that means they will end up pulling with it on, and the first tic makes them re-target to me.
Definitely doesn't work like in XI.

Just wait til your whm gets medica ii for 8 mans. Then the fun really starts.

Scholar Bubbles
i tried to put our little bubbles on the tank before boss pulls and, the boss came directly to me everytime. So i just wait till the tank has full aggro before i cast the bubble.
