This game needs better + updated guides.

I just started a new character for fun, a thm, and im trying to find what each stat does. I can't. Thats an obvious problem.

I also noticed they don't seem to update the old guides. Like MP regens now in passive mode, but the game guide claims it doesn't.

I hope before SE releases this game they create much clearer and better guides + ensure the current ones are updated to avoid confusion.

Also there should be a message board specifically for noob questions.

Alot of player guides are on hold cuz of changes being made
and im sure they wont be updating the site guides until all the changes are in

then they should really stick a disclaimer on them saying that they are outdated.

Also anyone know what mnd, int, pie, are? lol

Zam has a bunch of guide written by users. Some may be old, but as it's a wiki, they can be edited by anyone.

and realized that after the cutscene we were left alone in the town, no tutorial or in-game guideline or any help

that's not good for new players

Continue following the story line, the first portion of story line quests are the tutorial, or as close to one your going to get.

Edit: I now notice your a vet. of FFXIV did you skip the story line missions?

But only found it from a link from a thread on page 3 or so of the noob forums and not through lodestone (and i was looking).

I hope they realize that their guide system is unorganized and create a very easy to use one with links to the noob forum and stuff when the game comes out. Right now finding info on anything is a hassle.

Googling things is helpful, majority of the time you will find links to posts that are here.

Bah seriously, is it so hard to walk around town and talk to some npcs and find your way? Why do ppl want a game to play itself. Travel, explore, talk to npcs...

I know right. I played ffxi before the tutorial In windurst and found my way outside and killed things. But grated the game came with a think players manual ffxiv don't just a flimsy book.

But ya I watch yt vids of the starter quests, it does give you details on stuff. Like doing emotes (LL cs) with a lalafell. Even ffxi tutorial don't each you about that.

Knowing how to get information does not seem like a problem in anyway. Can you explain how using google a Search Engine, to find 1st party forum posts is a problem?

I personally find being resourceful the opposite from a problem. :D

An instruction manual, maybe, but a strat guide? No.

I think i see op issue the q and a are not really guides and are outdated. Try looking up the lodestine play guide as most are pretty current, well to your questions.
like tells you what the stats are and what they effect etc.

I don't know wtf constitutes a strat guide, but an explanation of the basic features of the game (guildleves, quests, story scenarios, how combat works, what stats do and why we have to allocate them, market systems, abilities) would probably help ease players into the game. It's really overhwelming starting a new MMO, and especially one like FFXIV, which delineates itself a lot from many other MMOs on the market, so the more SE can do to make the first experiences of players less of a frustration and more fun can only help their cause, even if that means explaining how the holy trinity works.

I'm pretty sure that this topic is something that they intend to cover in the future and they have a solid creation for which to actually give you information on, rather than it getting outdated and useless within a few months.

This:

As for the current rules and use of stats and such, you can get a pretty decent overview on that by reading "The Call to Adventure" on the Aetheryte Crystals (It covers what they all do, and a great deal more). You can also find information about Optimal Rank etc from the NPC vendors within the Market Wards. There is also a great deal of information on game concepts on the Lodestone.

I feel folk neglect to actually read anything that doesn't reward them in some way. There is a lot of information in the game about how things currently work - how else do you think I am able to play and give information to others considering I never visit any third party sites?
