Phase 4 character creation issues still. Haven't heard anything from Square.

Well, time to try this dealio once more. Obviously I can't get anything through via e-mail other than quite the collection of automated responses saying they'll get in touch within two business days time of the message. And well, it's been about two weeks now and I honestly not expecting to hear anything from them. Well, other than older tickets will keep being shoved under the rug. That part I heard quite well.

So I'll go over this again, because I frankly love talking to myself.

During Phase 4 for beta, players from the original version of Final Fantasy XIV were able to finally import and edit their character data. Which included a renaming and recustomisation of their character in full, due to the new playable genders of races from the origin.

Well, my issue stems from what I assume is a display error, or some type of issue with the transfer in general. But I was unable to keep my original name that I had from Sargantas when I went to complete the change from Hyur Midlander to Highlander. No matter what I'd try, I just couldn't process the edit at all, and ended up being stuck with no other alternative to solve the problem. So I ended up having to rename my character and go from there.

I had already filled out tickets regarding this issue before this was set in place, but I was happy to hear something on the matter from SE themselves. I didn't mind the import data from the benchmark not working, but the naming issue is something that's pretty much bugging me at the moment. At first, I thought it was that my name was taken and just had to deal with it. But come Early Access, I was able to claim the name just fine, which led me to believe that this is just some type of isolated data issue with myself.

I've rambled on a bit, but at this point, I might as well keep going a bit more.

I've filed in total 8 tickets on this issue since I've encountered it, sat in live chat to no avail 3 times, and gave up trying to do any sort of phone support. I really want to hear something on this matter other than handing me numerous receipts of 'promises' to contact me with a certain period, when they can't follow through. I know they're going through a busy time with the launch, but I can't even get a single e-mail to acknowledge that I have an issue and they are aware of it.

Any type of assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I don't have anything that'll help you. Although I can attest to your fustration regarding their customer service support. Feels like we're invisible to them.

Pretty much. I'm aware that this is quite the busy time for them, but getting brushed aside with an issue like this as well as receiving those automated false promise emails, really makes it all the more aggravating.

well I can explain why your attempts to reach Customer support is being thwarted.

Becasue of among other problems, the huge volume of people trying to get to Customer support live chat to sort of the service account problem. SE announced, some days ago that it had deleted every and all tickets more then 48 hours old.

If you haven't filled in a ticket in the last day or three, then all of your tickets are probably deleted and they're never going to be dealt with (they may all have been sent before the huge ticket deleting spree but in the last few days there was an announcement that all tickets were deleted).

Secondly, the reason you can't get through to live chat is because the queues are literally as full as the game's servers with people trying to get a fix for their split accounts.
there's a 500+ page thread about it recounting people on hold for hours only to be disconnected or told there's no one to help and it's grinding the already iffy Customer service abilities of SE to an absolute halt.


So you're tickets may be deleted, as might the first one I sent about my split account. But on top of that, Customer service is under constant vigil by users like paparazzi hungry for a story, all desperate to get their accounts fixed.

Oh, I'm aware of that. Mentioned that in the first bit and such, I've filed new ones since the update about the deleted old tickets.

And pretty much expected livechat to end up that way. Waited through the line a few times for it to just cancel when it was my time, so I basically gave up that route when it hit the fourth attempt.

But, going to keep trying and such. Figured they commented on this fix themselves, so might as well keep trying till I can actually hear something from them. Just not sure it'll work for awhile, get plenty of those 48 hour dealios, but it hasn't exactly amounted to anything tangible at the moment.

I think your problem is because maybe someone already had your name on Sag server? I didnt customize my dood, but did a world transfer to an NA legacy server. This took quite awhile after i applied.


I found this in one of the July loadstone dev posts:


*Notes Regarding the World Transfer
All character data will be transferred, with the following exceptions:

Character Names
After the transfer, if two or more characters with the same first and last name exist in the same World, only one character can keep the name, based on the order of priority below.

1. Characters that qualify for Legacy status.
2. Characters whose subscriptions ended after September 30, 2012.
3. Characters that were created first.

In the event that your character must be renamed, please enter a new name by following the on-screen instructions when you first log in following the World transfer.
* Players may voluntarily rename their characters even if their name takes precedence.

That's not quite it. Maleko Saint was my original name on Sargantas. I then transferred to Excalibur with that same character, which then when I tried to complete the character creation process, it wouldn't accept my name. That was my first thought, that 'Maleko Saint' was taken, so I went ahead and just dealt with it anyways. But here in lies the issue, Maleko Saint was never taken on Excalibur in the first place, as I was able to claim the name myself during early access just fine. And looking through things, there was never a 'Maleko Saint' on that server at any point. It's a bit of an odd name, so I figured something was wonky with that, so when I checked the forums, I came across that post from the Dev. Team on this issue. And it's pretty much spot on for what I was having to deal with in that.

So basically, due to some either display error or server issue that night/day, it would not let me use the name at all. But a few days later it was completely fine with me using the name on a new character.

I would of been fine with my new character had the name actually been taken by someone, but the fact still stands it was an issue with the process that prevented from using that name. So I'm just trying to get the very promise that they issued to people who encountered the very same thing.

So actually got a response from the GM team on this issue finally.

And it actually looks like I won't be able to change my characters name/appearance from the what this said. Which is grand.

So basically, from what I can understand from this message, is a collective 'tough shit'. Which I can only assume that it's going to be something that I can pay for later on down the road to obtain rather than them following through with something they promised from the get-go, once the issue was discovered.

They went ahead and said they'd rectify the issue for those who encountered it, but you can't exactly just go ahead and do the opposite of what was promised to the affected.

Character name changes will begin from Sep. 11, 2013 in the order in which they were received. After your request has been processed, the Character Name Change Screen will be displayed the next time you log in, and you will be able to change your character’s name.

Please note that once you receive the Character Name Change Screen, you will no longer be able to choose the same name your character currently possesses; you will have to choose a different name. Please be aware of this when you submit your request.

The Fantasia will be sent via the Moogle Delivery Service in the order in which requests were received.

Please note that because Fantasia is a rare item, a character cannot possess more than one at a time. If you already possess a Fantasia (obtained as a Veteran Reward, for example), please use your existing Fantasia in your inventory before receiving the new one from the Moogle Delivery Service.

They just posted that two hours ago on the Lodestone :) While it's not exactly specifically for the issue you encountered it does solve the problem thankfully.
