So I was thinking I'd share the skill up path I've done so far to help new carpenters:
willow lumber -> willow half-mask -> oak lumber -> oak half-mask -> yew lumber -> yew half-mask
So what do you guys think about that?

Then after yew half mask is walnut mask.
I'm pretty sure people would realize this is one of the best routes to go, if they bother to look up CRP recipes for skill up purposes.
It's been working for me, but I've run into something of a blockade on the willow lumber. I'm having trouble consistently getting willow logs from trees, and nobody's selling it. I suppose I could buy the logs from the NPC, but I'm trying to be stingy :P
Sazaku here is a site I use to locate items. http://www.disciplesoftheland.com/Maps.aspx I find that the best place to harvest willow is around Skull Valley.
When I started out as a botanist, I harvested 3 stacks (36 at the time) of willow logs, all around Camp Black Brush, (or what ever starting camp is outside of ul'dah) they are all grade one trees.
Also keep on mind that you can return to a node after you harvested 2 other nodes. So if you find a tree that drops willow, mark it down, and either find another tree, and maybe a bush to harvest from and make a cycle of it. That is till the node collapses.
i think this is probably the best method to leveling up carpenter. It all comes down to how much dedication and time you put in. I get bored easily and can't seem to sit in one spot making little masks all day :(
No kidding. How do you guys not kill yourselves?
So incredibly boring.
If you are not farming your own materials you might try Pine Skillet Handles. The pine is much less expensive then the oak and you get awesome skill points for making them.
Carp guild sell willow log for 6k~ which is a very acceptable price.
its not listed on the deciples of the land website that i've seen. but Walnut can also be found at bloodshore
thats where i've been getting most of my supply from as i've been stocking up for the last push on CRP
if you wanna check it out
north of bloodshore you have the road on the west side there is 3 trees, directly north almost right at where one of the spots for the buffalo faction NM is another tree. then you have 3 trees on the east side of the road.... the east side is a little more spread out
35-18, 36-19/20, 38-19, 37-18, 38-21
using the YG map for the grid marks since we can't get online right now lol
Nice info, I should try above methods to level my carpenter rank a bit... I really need it to fix my bow and stuff, and why not, making some money repairing other people's stuff.
I've spent some time working on this, and you need to look out for SE's dirty trick. Pile up lots of Walnut, Yew, and Oak logs. I'm currently trying to get 300-400 of each, just to be safe. If you follow this path you should be r50 without having to do all that much.
Item (Rank Synth)
Walnut Lumber (16)
Yew Lumber (21)
Oak Lumber (26)
Oak Mask (30)
Yew Mask (40)
Walnut Mask (45)
SE's dirty trick is the disparity between Walnut Lumber and Walnut Masks. I have a few people in my LS that wound up doing hundreds of synths for Walnut Lumber at r35+ for basically no SP. Making the lumber for the masks near/at the appropriate levels will help maximize your time, unless you want to do all those synths for no SP.
