[dev1026] Claming system is broken.

After camping various of the NMs, I've noticed that even if i get the first hit on a mob, or even a provoke, or even both, another party can still "outclaim" me.

This never really bothered me before, except maybe when doing Dodore, where I just thought "Oh. They got lucky. Oh well." But when this happened more than 5 times in a row when camping Kokooroon, it really started to get to me.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this? Is it a server latency issue? Granted this isn't a big issue now, but when gear there's gear that's actually worth getting, it'll be a huge pain to deal with.

Nope. They were all US/EU.

And you weren't fighting anything else at the time? Remember you can only claim 1 group of mobs at once.

I've had many instances where there has been a "double claim" and 2 parties claimed the mob at once...essentially, whoever hits the mob first after the claim gets the mob...in terms of "I did it before them, but they got it!" it's usually latency, lag or just server distance in general.

Then it's like FFXI system who every does a attack that does more hate they get it over you. So let's say i do provoke but you do a better version of provoke you get it over me.

Maybe their internets where better. lol.

It has nothing to do with hate, nore your ISP speed, its purely lag on their end.

I used to be on a crappy ISP like 1mb lol and I could outclaim so many people on different things because I realised the initial delay.

its kind of similar to how XI has that "cannot insta claim" they put in where you have to wait 1-2 seconds except it doubt its intentional due to: You can claim via missing the mob and the other person full on wacking it or critting it.

I know it has nothing to do with hate because I remember a memoriable moment when I went to claim against a much higher rmt player and I claimed but missed and the rmt wacked a mob and had hate, then got nailed on by the mob until he died XD. fun times.

Its just either bad server lag or a not-properly defined anti claimbot feature like XI's (which failed lolols)

If you want to claim all the time just delay a second (or use spirit dart ! :D)

They actually have that delay for monsters that 'suddenly appear' during levequests too. Some people dont know it and stat thwaking on it it too fast, damaging it before it will actually turn red, thus causing a loss in SP ; ;

This only happens to me when I use taunt or provoke. Never had this problem when I used normal attacks like light shot, I've also noticed a dropping pattern with Kokooroon. He drops the bow often during a waxing or full moon and drops the scale mail during a waning or new moon not exactly sure on this but I've gotten about 15 or so bows and scale mails doing it this way.

I don't think this is lag related. My LS has been camping these NMs and there have been several occasions where we do get the first hit on the mob, including damage, but then someone else gets the claim. If it were lag or other latency problems I doubt it would go from landing a hit to, being engaged. It almost seems like you need to get two consecutive hits for the claim to be official.

This happened to my linkshell several times tonight in my 30 group killing the nms today.

We would get first hit on the mob (which was an non-agro mob) would even come over and hit our member who hit it but the other group would actually have claim.

There is a bug with claiming atm, either that or some new claim block mechanism like they had in XI designed to stop botting.

RMT is not like a real player they hack. FFXI system works by hate then they added 10secs before you can attack a mob and if a mob would attack you if they just pop you have 10sec to leave before he see you and attacks. I know this very well because i remember it from playonline when they update it.

this isn't the case with 14. If I'm solo camping a mob with no one else around, I can easily claim as soon as it pops.

Noticed this too while camping nms with our ls party.

I even took 1000 damage from the mob after attacking it only for it suddenly to be taken by another party. I was clearly still on the nms hate list somehow.

We had an issue last night with our ls camping against 2 players not from japan, multiple times we damaged the mob and had hate but did not get claim, the mob even attacked some of our members but still went red to the other party, this is a definite issue with the claiming system not with lag. It is especially funny when the mob is attacking you and you cannot kill it.

I was helping my LS with Kokoroon as well... basically 4 times he spawned right next to me, I provoked, saw the effect go off, only to have an arrow that hits the mob from across the room 2 seconds later claim him. Claiming, provoke, or archer is very broken at the moment.

Bandwidth does however, and dial-up is generally on the low end of bandwidth allocation.

The OP is right about the claiming system being glitched. I've seen people wipe to NMs and it was still claimed even when the mob name was in yellow and they could aggro me.

Not all RMT bot. But this system doesnt work by Hate, I've said that, its proven. So I dont know what you are trying to say.

Except using provoke or taunt on an unclaimed mob generates 0 enmity.

I agree, this is an issue I've been encountering quite frequently as well. Very often I watch three of my arrows hit from Multishot (since the initial attack never misses unless you are aggroed), only to have the claim go to someone else. Although it amy not be a terrible issue now with low server pops, etc. I can see this becoming an issue in the future and if any endgame exists outside of instanced content, this issue will cause enormous amounts of drama within the community. Please address this issue ASAP.

Go find a Peiste. Use Provoke on it. See what it does immediately after.

It will come after you as if you had engaged it but if anyone else initiates any action it will go after them as they have generated enmity. See how well you do managing hate if you hit it and then provoke it, the results are consistently better.

was talking about FFXI system trying to say that it could be in FFXIV. w/e if it broken it's broken i so far never found a issue with it. maybe they fix it once they redo the battle system.

the funny thing is you hit it and it turns red and attacks you then another group comes up and it goes to purple because the claim changes. we had that happen twice with dodore. would turn red for engage then another group would come up and claim it and it'd go from red to purple.

this needs to be fixed when you sit as a group crafting waiting on weather changes and go to claim a nm pop and someone by signing into their alt sees the weather change comes over and takes a mob already claimed.

It has nothing to do with lag. When mob (every mob) spawns, if you hit it from the moment it spawn until like half a second after it spawn, it will stay yellow, only after will the claim work.

I used to grind at Copperbell mines on doblyns where its super crowded and all doblyns were pretty much camped, and that always happened.

At last, i finally got used to waiting 1 second before i hit it once it spawned. you have to be really fast to make that bug happen

that has nothing to do with the nm's being changed on claim. when we locate the nm's we stop in front of them and buff before going in to engage. i was tank got buffs ran in did emulate then pvovoke 2 then hit the set of mobs with shadowfall. the mobs turned red then attacked me and another group came up hit the mob and it went from red for us to purple showing the claim had been changed although the mobs were still attacking me.

"Broke" seems like too harsh of a description, but I agree it is far from optimal. Active/passive mode feels like it gets in the way. Claiming feels slow and clunky in general. However, this is something that is likely to change with the battle system so I wouldn't get too worked up about it now.

if it's not optimal it needs to be fixed. you don't need to fix something unless it is broken.
