For the love of the Twelve, I can't take the screaming and yelling that's inescapable in the East Shroud... I'm sick of hearing the loud mumblings every time I approach the market board. It was novel at first, but now it just annoys me.
For one, it's too loud, and then also in some story-focused areas it totally ruins the mood of the story. I'm watching cutscenes of something dramatic, and it sounds like I'm on a crowded banquet hall.
I'd like the be able to turn down JUST the volume of these sounds and no others, and/or outright mute them.
And please don't say 'just mute ambient sounds'. I want to hear the birds and the crickets and the wolves and the wind... I just don't want to hear the incessant SCREAMS every time I get near 5 or more people.

I don't personally have a problem with the background chatter... Well that's not 100% true... Whenever I'm crafting I always swear I hear a woman say something hotplates. I dunno why, but it drives me mad >_>. Other then that I think the battle sounds are pretty cool. BUT, I agree about there should be a disable button. I don't see why not, there's no downside to it. But there are upsides... LIKE NO HOTPLATES :3

I think the reason is that it loops so often. I hear that Lala laugh/surprise emote so often while crafting ... I just turn down the volume after awhile.

crowd sounds are gerat ! You can adjust ambient volume a little bit down, if its too noisy for you. I did...

I love the crowd sounds. It's nice to have in the absence of your character's actually being able to speak.

People are getting damn specific about the options now. We're only a few steps behind "I want to only hear the wings flapping on flying mobs or mobs that have heavy footsteps".

Yes Please. They are really distracting during Cutscenes when it only shows your character around, but there's a ton of talking in the background.

I actually agree with you OP. For the most part anyways XD I do love the new crowded/city feel with the crowd-chatter. It does feel more immersive. But sometimes certain words or sounds stand out too much and it's very distracting >.<
I kid you not, sometimes I hear a woman making some sort of sexual noise, it's like a loud "OOOhhhh!!"
Sometimes it's kinda funny, but most times its just weird..
I'm all for a "City bg noise" slider option! -
