Please be caution about double billing from DigitalRiver

For those who bought FFXIV from SQEX e-store please be caution and look at your credit card transaction all the time, me and a lot of my friend got the 2nd billing from DigitalRiver without any notice and could not contact DigitalRiver or SQEX regarding this issue. For now please always check your credit card.

Silly question I know, but are you 100% sure that first "charge" actually went through, and it wasn't just a temporary hold that was released later, with the real charge coming when they shipped the item?

I can confirm this. My boyfriend and I had preordered two digital CE version of the game back in July, and upon purchase we were charged (checked the bank statement to confirm this). Today a statement came up saying we had been billed again, lo and behold we were short 100$. We have sent in a ticket and if it is not resolved in a week, we will be contacting the bank to get the money back. This is not SE's fault, it is Digital River's. It is SE's fault for choosing such a shitty 3rd party company to do business with though, people have had nothing but problems with them for years.

Digital River is a joke. I had a lot of issues with them from an anti virus that was through them. Hopefully you can get your double payment refunded and taken care of quickly. I try to avoid them now as they seem to have some bad business practices. Sad to hear SE went with them for the digital downloads.

When you bought the game digitally that day they didn't charge you. I did the same and looked it up and they only charged me a couple of days ago and not months ago when i purchased it.

I looked at my banking statements, they double billed me. The money was taken out of my account the first time (upon purchase) and a second time when they sent it. I gave them a ticket and got a reply:

i can confirm Digital River is a crap company not only do they not know how to handle charging accounts they are also extremely poor record keepers when i first got the game i played for a few months before i had to reformat this was a digital download when i went to download again even with a email and a bank statement i couldn't get these people to give me access to a copy i finely had to go track down a disk from a friend...

I can confirm that I have also been double billed by Digital River. Bought collector's edition for myself and regular for my partner and on the 30th they charged us again without refunding the original amount. Sent a ticket into SE and have not heard anything back from them.

I also purchased with debit , however uinstead of being initially charged what they did was hold my funds for a few days to verify I had an ccount that could pay and then funds were released. Once game was shipped the actual charge took place. This is how digital river was supposed to conduct it, is everyone who experiencing this absolutely sure they did not get the funds returned from initial pre-order charge? It held my 100 for CE for about a week before releasing it back into account, maybe you spent it and not realize.. or digital river really did screw up but I don't see how it would with the way thier process goes, but maybe it did.

I had the opposite happen with me. My soundtrack shipped from Digital River and they have not charged me yet. I have a tracking number and it's already halfway across the US. The only charge I have from them in my bank statement is for the CE of the game. I dunno if it's just my bank pending and it hasn't shown yet but it's been 4 days since they shipped it.

They try to get funds before it goes out door, sounds to me like you got a cheap soundtrack! grats

If they did double bill you and you used a credit card, and you cannot contact them directly (which its nearly impossible to do) contact your Credit Card Company and dispute the charge.

They have a whole team of people who get paid to investigate things like this.

i was charged and then it was reversed and then charged again at a later date

i was also double billed. i've been checking my account regularely and nothing has been returned. sent in a ticket last week and still have no response. i bought my digital collectors on the 20th, money was taken out, nothing was ever returned and then on the 30th they took it out again plus an extra dollar. i'm getting extremely pissed off with this.

When i pre-order the game during beta 4, i got a hold on my account for 29.99 which went away and not taken out of my account. Then when the game came out, i had another hold of 29.99 and then it was taken out.

This is what should of happened, if not, then your bank was the one taking out the money twice.

Guys relax. If you got double billed simply go to your bank and they are required by law (regulation E of the fed) to give you provisional credit within ten days (five days if your bank uses visa debit cards). They will then investigate and finalize the credit once they confirm the error.

If you used a credit card, then just call you credit card company and dispute the charge. Easy as that.

What happened with me was that I bought the game early August. When checking for that statement the charge disappeared from my bank account. almost a week after release that payment came back again. Apparently this is normal when pre-ordering from the Square Enix store.

I purchased with debt as well was told on Sunday Aug 31 that it would be back in 48 hours - called today after not getting the refund and was told it my first purchase was a "hold" to make sure I had the funds and I have to fax in my bank statement to prove they charged me twice.I'm calling my bank..also got a reply from Square Enix today about my ticket.
They didn't even read it! they closed my ticket saying they fixed all server issues with the last patch.....wtf???My ticket had nothing to do with the servers it clearly said double charged for digital download!

I would dispute the charge with my credit card company/bank. It was not authorized for you to be billed twice so you can have them cancel the second one out. Depending on your CC company, they will most likely then cancel your card and issue you a new number so Digital River can't try billing you a third time.
