Server mergers and points of interest?

I'm just curious if they have offered server merges or transfers off of your current server yet? As of right now my server(Fabul) seems really quiet and any time I log in I don't see many people wandering around, and I've never seen anyone using the party search / recruit function. Has anyone mentioned possibly transferring off into more populated servers, or merging two servers together?

Another question I have is, am I possibly hanging out in the wrong areas? I've been going back and forth between Gridania and Ul'dah and shouting asking for parties, asking for Linkshells and I haven't gotten any responses. First response I finally got was today after posting on these forums.... Is there a special city that is more populated than others, like Jueno from FFXI?

all servers fairly empty, need to wait til changes take place and hopefully we see a rise in numbers, or PS3 release which is sure to bring with it a good number.

Since there are no payments being taken from the players we won't see this until much later unfortunately, you CAN roll as many characters as are available without paying for it too, so if you want roll another temporary character to check things out on another server, when payments do come you can then decide which character(s) to keep and pay for. It's a great opportunity to get a sense of some servers right now.

right now most of servers are dead.. i would also want server merge.

Ul'dah is the busiest city it would seem on any server and Gridania seems to always be a ghost town. Like others have said you can start a new character and pick a more populated server but that's about it at the minute. They won't do server merges as they will have to open them again come PS3 release but if that tanks then they might start think ing about it.

I'm against server merge but sadly I also feel it's probably not a bad idea right now. =/ Some servers do feel pretty empty and one of the major things keeping me from logging in is not being able to hop into some form of "lfg" and find a party. I don't know if this is a population issue or a lfg tool issue, but I'm starting to think it's just a population issue.

Please, try to have a little foresight. Yes, many of the servers are currently underpopulated. However, if we merge now, when the PS3 version is released they will explode, even if the PS3 version doesn't sell 'well.' Let SE build up the game, release the PS3 version, and THEN if needed we can discuss server merges.

At the current time, however, the idea of a server merge is both shortsighted and counterproductive.

If they don't merge then I might not make it to the PS3 release. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wishes they could log on and find a party. Like I said in my post I am against the idea of it, but I think right now the positives outweigh the negatives. While PS3 release is definitely something to fall back on, it's not something that should be planned around.

Funny, becuase I did too, And there were 4 servers with 3 Chocobos, and several more with 2.

How so? if SE does not put a lot of TV ads of FFXIV in NA and really do a lot of commercial ads for ffxiv everywhere in the world that FFXIV would be sold. Then FFXIV would be the same as FFXI a low underpopulated game never ranging 2+mil players.

Point is now there more MMO then ever before so if ffxiv fail at doing any commercial ads for this then the game would fail just like the pc release. I'm happy they did not do any commercial ads for FFXIV in NA and only in japan because only the jp really got hurt by this game release. Tho NA would still bad but at least not a lot of mmo players got to see it. Playing wow not a lot of players even know about ffxiv so SE still can get FFXIV moving with a great Commercial ads for NA.

If FFXIV come out with a Pack for the ps3 version and everything fix and it's a very good mmo then ya merge is not a great idea right now. If they just do like they did with the PC release then lol better start cutting down servers right now.

I see more ads for Kingdom hearts and Final fantasy 13 and even the FF4 game that coming out for psp then FFXI and FFXIV put together.

I hope we see a NA version of this JP TV ad for ffxiv

In my opinion, at the current time, FFXIV isn't an actual retail release (which is the viewpoint the two quotes above seem to be coming from). It's more like a massively extended beta-testing period. The game isn't being actively advertised, and no money is being made, and wide, sweeping changes are being made in order to put the game where it needs to be for release (which in this case will be the PS3 version).

People keep drawing parallels to FFXI's first year in Japan, but that's a bit like comparing the PS1 to an Xbox360 - the market is vastly, vastly different now. In the post-WoW generation of MMORPGs, there is far less tolerance for failure than there was when FFXI launched. At this point, SE is putting a huge amount of effort in salvaging not only the game, but their reputation as well. Remember, this release came right after FFXIII's mixed reception.

With all that in mind, I feel it's far better for SE to forego the mergers and wait for the game's 'rebirth,' if you will.

I stay in Grid because its lowly populated :P

I have a solution! We should pick a server and all create alts on it, lol. Its kind of pointless to max out all your DoW/M classes right now anyway considering that you wont be able to experience any of the future low-mid level content with them at rank 50. Then when the game gets closer to the PS3 release we can all switch back to our original guys ^^

I realize this would never catch on but I think it would be fun if it did :P Even if nobody did any hard core leveling it would be nice to experience a server that was as "alive" as they all were at launch again...it could be designated as the "Social Server" or "The Server of Survivors"...

I don't want a server merge, Kashuan seems to have plenty of people. Think we should all wait and see how everything goes. But, if it is a big issue for people, then you should definitely keep voicing your opinions on it.

Merging servers at this point in time would be detrimental. Besides, all it would do is raise the ul`dah population. You don't merge your servers before you have your game fully released, if after the PS3 influx (there will be one, especially on the JP side) and its still "empty", then server merging should happen.

I agree server mergers at this point are definitely short-sighted and just asking for all kinds of trouble (both for SE and the players). But who knows what drastic trick they'll pull out of their ass. I certainly didn't expect Tanaka to be canned like he was. And personally, if SE listened to people like me, these servers would've been shutdown the week after the Standard Edition dropped, and we'd be anxiously awaiting a new game instead of being disappointed by lacking patches (this is by no means the current dev teams fault, but if you look at the forums, clearly leaving everything open for everyone to try as it is made just makes the majority bitter about the game direction.)

Even with the PS3 release, how many people outside of Japan are going to buy it? Pretty sure most in north america are going to play it on the PC regardless.

Same question was asked about the 360 version of FFXI. The way XIV currently runs on PC unless you're really into gaming, your laptop/PC simply won't run the game well because most people, especially casual gamers don't have the best media/gaming PC and the PS3 is their best bet.

I myself know several people waiting for it to drop... some people just aren't PC gamers, and the PS3 crowd is actually a very large demographic, and I know a lot of people who will buy it, and try it, simply because it says "Final Fantasy"

Agreed. Ps3 Release will bring some numbers.. if the population is still vacant afterwards they will probably look at mergers.

If you want to do parties, do a behest and ask if someone wants to join u for some leves :) I met a lot of ppl like that. If you dont want to do that, join a LS. Cuz my Fabul is pretty busy lol even gridania has more than 3 ppl :O

you can build a pc for around under 400$ if you use the parts from your old pc like DVD,HDD that save you easy 60-80$ and there a 5800S video card for 100$ish i be building a pc for about 180$ that can run FFXIV becuase using ram,HDD,dvd rom from the old build then once i have more money get a video card that less then buying a ps3. So everyone really going to get this game for PC just waiting for this game to come out.

For FFXIV to even make a good hit in the market when they release it on the PS3 they need a few things.

It's not the pricing, it's the fact casual gamers simply don't need a powerful PC because they tend to be on the console side of things as most PC games are released on consoles as well and pretty much everyone has a console or two if they're a gamer. A PS3 is about $300, a great GPU is around $500, a good GPU is around $300, a decent GPU is around $150 depending on where you get your parts. Unless the manf. moved onto a new line, like Radeon being in the 7xxx range now, good GPUs are getting cheaper but still are pretty high in price.

As for the rest, pretty sure CS and story aren't what people care for these days, they care for JUMP and AH =\

If you want the top of the line yes but you can build a pc that can play games around 400$ if you have a pc with HDD and DVD rom that save you money i can understand what you mean. If you like consoles gaming that a whole other story then i understand wait for the PS3 version. But i know for me i wont waste 1k for a pc when i can build one for 400$ and play ffxiv without issue and that what i did 1year ago and i play fine at great setting with good FPS outside and 40-50FPS in city.

but if you like consoles then play that :) still don't get why would casual even play a game if they have 2hours per day to play seem like a waste of money to me but w/e :)
