Skirmishes against the Garleans

I'm bored of grinding through surplus atm so im just gonna have some fun on the forums.

How cool would it be, if once a week/day every 3 days, etc etc, we had a huge battle against the Garleans. Say for example Eorzeans trying to take back control of Ala Mihgo.

Sorta basically the same general system of besieged, but Eorzeans and Garleans fighting over advancing territory.

No player limits like behest, full outright war, anyone can enter, with the companies of eorzea joining in the fray much like the serpent generals in ffxi's besieged.

I think that'd be pretty sweet.

What do you guys think?

If it's set up like the XI Campaign system it would be nice, since campaign is closer to the war scenario than besieged.

Yes, campaign works as a good example also. lol

Main reason i guess i missed mentioning it was campaign was basically constant. im talking about set times of the week. so that there's a real build-up of anticipation and the turnout of players is huge, really get everyone together. There was no doubt alot more players in one besieged battle than in one campaign battle, atleast by the time that the campaign release settled down. And think, Besieged happened fairly often too. This should be epic battles that happen spaced out over time. like, if you remember the War of Emperium in Ragnarok Online.

Campaign and besieged were alot of fun, and worked well for any kind of player I really hope they implement similar events in the future. It would be alot better then the behest we have now.

I wonder if they still plan to implement those Hamlet defence battles, or did they get scapped?

Hamlet defence battles? i miss something? xD

Hamlet defence was proposed for the coming year and mentioned in letters 1and 2 from yoshi i think its coming with the new battle system

Should be more dynamic and organic though. Things on timers are so annoying. Garlean troops should push for dominion over land. And If you fail to repel them, they should gain more territory. And if they gain more territory, it should actually matter and effect the game world.

I was hoping that the primal beastmen would attack first. Then the Garleans would arrive and start a three-way war between the city-states, garleans and the primals. Meanwhile Ishgard is fighting dragons.

i actually really like that idea. the game world changing due to goings on, and that players are able to influence it themselves. Sorta how in besieged, mobs would take certain NPCs prisoner. simple things like failing to keep them from kidnapping the Chocobo Rental NPC were frustrating yet provided awesome immersion.

Only problem is sometimes timers are required to get a large group of players to join in. if it were constant - sure alot people would show up, but mostly all at different times spread out over their playing time, it certainly reduces the "epic" scale of battle. I can see player companies taking a role in it too, advancing your company through whatever possibilities they add to them during the war against the garleans.

I like the Idea, i wished for something like that from the beginning.
And there should be no player cap, its War.
Instead of a simple timer, there could be a break when the night beginns.(as an example)

well a reason i say a timer is that it helps bring everyone together because everyone knows -when- to be there. i guess instead of a timer though i guess they could make it work how besieged did and make it occur based on different sets of parameters being met.
plus sorta have a countdown to battle once they have been met.
Tension could build gradually over the course of time, and other actions players take in quests and stuff, like killing garlean NPC enemies randomly around Eorzea could speed up the tension buildup, or boost it by a small ammount. the more players do to boost it all over, the sooner those battles come. but there definetely should be a prior warning of maybe, say an hour, prior to battle starting, so that the worlds players can all start making neccisary plans to get out to the battlefield.

If the grand companies of eorzea give out NPC linkpearls like all the other guilds, thats how they could spread the information of an incoming battle.

Yeah is think this is good, how about random attacks from the Garleans in certain territorys or Camps?
As an example: if the Garleans arent stopped and take over a Camp or territory you cant do Quests for that Area or you get only quests to help to free that Area again, which will provoke the Garleans to attack.
Or it will also be a Skirmish like Attack or Defense.

The linkpearl is a good Idea, so everyone will know where and when the Skirmish begins.

Everything sounds good and fun. I vote yes!

I don't think they should lock out quests, that's too much of a limitation in my opinion. There should be increased Garlean activity on the region to make completing the tasks harder, but they should not outright lock them out completely.

That is what i think too, i just threw some ideas out which could be used for others idea or changed e.t.c and of course what most people want/imagine.

Hate to point out but that would get boring real fast if it didnt lead to
anything more than just another way of grinding / fighting.

At 50...there's absolutley nothing fun left to do but run around
killing innocent creatures, kill the Hard NM's ....and well thats it.

If there's no player limit it'd be nice if people who respawned would respawn outside. So the only way to stay in would be waiting for a raise.
