I finally got in on Excalibur for the first time since Beta 4 last night around 11 PM CST after a 300 person Queue. I wake up for work at 5:30 AM and work till 3:30 get home at 4:30... this is before "prime time" yet all the middle and high school kids must be beating me to the punch, or stay at home basement dwellers and / or handicapped folks on disability or poor families on welfare that pays more than 2 minimum full time jobs.
1017 every time...
So I finally get in! And i see all the rants on the forums about no AFK boot, so i'm like heck yeah, i'll just park my dude by the fountain and i can play after work!
...Excitedly i turn my monitor back on after work ... and the opening Cinematic is playing. it does have an AFK boot guys & gals. It might be a good hour or two i don't know.
Edit: Found out it was maintenance. Pro.

Myself and others have been able to login and walk away for hours without getting booted.
I literally played, kept myself logged in, went to sleep and was exactly the way I was the night before when I got back on my computer the next morning. I didn't even have a log notification of being AFK.
Not sure why you got booted, but it probably wasn't an AFK boot.
P.S. Sorry everyone for being one of those people that keep themselves logged in, but you do what you have to to be able to play. -

I was playing from 1800 GMT until I got 90000'd out of the blue at 2200 GMT yesterday. I tried to get in every half-hour like I always do, and got back in at 2300 GMT. I then played until bedtime and logged out. OP probably experienced a random connection-to-server loss like I did.

Though it is hard to believe that people are willingly paying for these accounts only to know they will be banned at some point. I agree with you Sez. If I know I'm going to be offline for a while, sleeping, away from the house etc I log off because I do know there are other folks that do want to play. But if I know I'm going to be back on in just a couple of hours, nah, I leave my game running. I'd come back and spend another 2 hours or more trying to log in.
Like I said I don't condone days of AFKing, but I think people really are overdoing it on the whole "Grab your pitch forks we got some afkers to burn!" mentality. Every time you come across someone that is flagged as AFK, does not mean they have been AFK for an entire day. I actually really like that I can leave, and come back in 30 minutes without having to log in and go through all the mess again. -

Oh by the way Sez, there is a cheating option via the in game support, that would probably fit the bill for bots a little more. Though I would love to be able to right click someones name and report that way to make it a little faster.

My comment wasn't directed at the OP for attempting to stay logged in, it was for the part afterwards.
I don't judge those who chose to stay logged in to avoid the dreaded 1017 Boss Mob, but myself I tackle the darned thing and if I manage to defeat it, play for as long as I can and then log out, praying that another Start-button Masher makes it in behind me and not some Gold-bot.
Folks have paid the same as I have and they may play as they wish, remaining online or logging out.. to each his own. <Shrug> In a crisis, you have the right to buy every bottle of water you can afford, even beyond your need, but does that make it easier for those who are thirsty?
I look forward to a month from now, when most of these issues are resolved and folks can get back to enjoying a great game. -

I have read each and every post on this thread and I am amazed at some of the thoughts.
I have talked to many inside and outside the game and from my conversations I am guessing that nearly 20% of the server population at any time are people staying logged in while they are at school, work, or just plain sleeping.
Is that bad behavior - I would dare say yes. However lets be reasonable. I would say two things about afk'ers.
1). I fully understand why they afk to stay logged in so they do not have to contend with 1017.
2). SE is to blame for rewarding bad behavior and punishing good behavior.
If anyone has trained small animals you will know that the best way to enforce behaviors is by rewards and punishment - and that is exactly my point. SE is promoting bad behavior and causing all the problems by not having an afk system and allowing for a generous que.
From what I am reading from official posts is that SE would rather throw money at an existing problem with upgrades rather than fixing what they have at the moment and then making a decision on upgrades.
Do not blame fellow players for what they feel they have to do to enjoy the game but rather lets put the blame where it belongs.

I'd stay afk too to get around 1017 but I can't afford the increase in energy bills. ;)
