Best part, people complained about that with XI because of how congested it got during high traffic updates so they opted for the P2P solution, which seems to be hit/miss for folks.
lol Oh how our demands have kicked us in the buttQuote:

Something needs to be done. The patching situation has been atrocious ever since launch.
ITT: PC-illiterate people who don't know how2patch.
my school blocks torrent ports so i can't download it through torrent either ; ;
Wow does it really take people awhile to download the patch? the longest it took for me was 20 mins. Even still I downloaded at the start of maintenance so I still have 1.5 hrs left before I could have played.
OK nerd - while you're holed up in your basement figuring this stuff out, I'm sure out of love for nerding, you should understand that plenty other people have other hobbies and may not care much. I'm barely computer illiterate and i don't know how to speed up the patcher (other than opening ports on my router that is) but I bet you don't know how to build foundations for a building in an engineering project....get my drift?
Psst: just because I'm an engineer doesn't mean everyone else is.
ive been trying to download for about 90min now.... i just keep getting 0.0. Id be fine downloading slow but the download keeps getting -stuck-. torrent is only downloading at 1kb/s too. And i know its not my interent or comp can i can go download a 2gig movie or game off isohunt in under an hour. So its -very- clearly the patching system and SE
lol really I always thought School was for learning not playing MMO's. My how times have changed >.< Maybe if you took a Networking class you would know what ports to open on your router or firewall to make it quicker :D.
But on Square Enix part. They need to provide the technical support and instructions to do said procedure if they are going to go P2P. Cuz, it took me searching online and finding it in a fan forum to know to do this :P
Yeh my Uni blocks it too, even student apartments do. Fortunately I dont live in one but the torrent still sucks, and all these idiots like "open this port n that port", it barely helps stop trying to act like you're the big geek. I change routers and reset mine so often that i dont even bother opening ports and somedays I can get 500kb/s on the xiv patcher, other times its 7hrs for 5mbs lol. And other things I torrent is always 1-2mb/s, even XIV patcher now wont budget of 0b/s for the past 30 mins, while utorrent has climbed a hefty 73% in that time.
The problem with direct is cost and traffic, its all demanding on the server, where as torrent we are using OUR BANDWIDTH to provide SE'S CUSTOMERS with THEIR GAME. Kinda bullshit really that we're having to pay to keep people playing their game cuse they're so shitty to provide direct.
just google the name of patch file, I bet there's a lot of ppl upload it to MediaFire or MegaShare
imagine about what SE thought at the first place... kinda funny
Tanaka: Our game must have a million players! we can't handle the direct patch update! better make it P2P
Wada: Good idea, Let's do it nao!!
I'm having a hell of a time downloading this patch. Never have had this issue before, but I guess it is my time to deal with it lol.
See you guys online in about a week =(
This Is An Annoying Problem For Anyone. Which Could Very Easily Be Fixed.
Of Course Weezy ^^ lol Just A Typing Addiction. *Shift Master 4000*
Yes! Please do something about this horrible, sad joke of an updater, I've been running it since 8PM last night and I'm still only 46.6% complete. The estimated time to complete was about 7 hours, then dropped to 2 hours, 15 minutes. In reality, IT HAS BEEN THE BETTER PART OF A DAY AND IT'S NOT EVEN HALFWAY DONE!!!!! Now I'm royally pissed. It will even be worse for me, since my main machine, which I play the game on was out for repairs, it was declared a total loss and offered to be relaced under my service plan, but what is the point, if I have a week-long or even a month-long download just to load/update the game?!?!?!
This is not a request, it's an Ultimatum: FIX THE UPDATER, AND FIX IT NOW!
If you have an appropriate connection, then you need to adjust your router or firewall settings. It only took me a matter of minutes to download the update, at around 400-500 KB/s. Lower than my conneciton is capable of, but not slow by any means.
Smaller updates do not use peer to peer btw. Only large ones.
