Why even que us as healers? we cant do much at level 30. its not until 40 that we can heal properly...all the dungeons have some strong dots that cannot be removed by anything other then a Conj/White mage....
perhaps give us Leeches at 30?

Umm, then don't q as a scholar, q as an arcanist for dps or whm for healing the lower lvl content
Umm, kinda rude~ umm like so lets que as dps and wait hours on end! yeah! plus I enjoy being a healer..wish they would have stated somewhere Scholar would not be useful til 40++ which is hard to get to as a dps. Plus arcanist dps is extremely low...all we really have is dots. Rune and Rune II have the same potency so not even sure why use II..the 10 blind blind? does not seem to do much.
Rolling Eos, I was able to make him/her/it/Sookie main heal while I kept up my normal DPS rotation, with a few back up heals. This lasted until The Sunken Temple....
The only downside I see to Scholar as a healer right now is that it doesn't get Leeches until Lv40, which is beyond stupid. Leeches shouldn't even be an ability anyway, though... Just make Esuna an ability Scholar can carry over... They didn't feel the need to waste an ability giving Scholar its own Cleric Stance, I don't see why the same didn't hold true for Cure and Esuna, though I guess Physick at least gives Black Mage a healing spell, even if that makes absolutely no sense...
At the very least, Leeches needs to do something else besides being a gimper version of Esuna (which gets a 20% chance of being free...), right now though I'd much rather see it replaced with Sacred Prism or something more interesting than a Lv18 ability.
I've done every dungeon so far as Scholar (the first 4-5), and I haven't really had any problems. Toto-Rak or whatever it's called has a really bad poison, but I was able to just spam heal through it with my faerie's help. Maybe it gets harder at level 30, I'm not sure.
Sotek I agree~ Esuna should just carry over. Naaros~ those dungeons I healed as my arcanist they are not hard. its the ones past 30 that are just impossible and the fairy is beyond stupid AI...she does her huge aoe heal that has a 1 min cooldown when she is next to me..doesnt even give me time to move her.
Personally all my dungeon runs have went a lot more smoother with shcolars than white mages those fairies are amazing.
as a scholar.. id have to say that the lvl 30 healing spell we learn is quite impressive... though it takes quite a bit of mana.. it still is not a problem in the least part.. with aetherflow and if u really need to Ethers (dont use any but have like 200) Use ur lvl 30 spell on the tank.. then cast Bio2 and Miasma and right after that Bane* then go back to healing.. thats for healing with aoe dps. BUT if u just focusing healing and the tank cant take every mob i like to put the lvl 30 spell on everyone that way it provides a shield of about 200-500 hp *depending on crit* including myself as i have taken aggro.. as for the fairy sometimes she uses her spells wrong. but I havent had a problem with her AOE heal whatsoever.. it has always hit my whole party.also iv taken to put her heal AND aoe on my hotbar so i can just press it same time im healing someone..
ps.. coming from a ps3 user..
Put the fairy on steady during boss fights, even when she switches to guard she shouldn't use her aoe heal, than you can use it instead of letting the AI deal with it, even than, its better just to place the fairy in the middle of the room so she can get everyone in range, unless they move out, but its pretty far reaching.
So far healed as scholar for haukke manor and brayflox just fine, had a little difficulty in brayflox where my fairy wasn't in range of the tank, so had to really go at it too keep him up, another thing, when your casting spells you can't move or order your fairy to do anything, the whole bar greys out, so best to place her pretty much right away or your gonna struggle if things are getting hairy, or just keybind place to something close.
Titan was a cakewalk, get the level 35 scholar quest out of the way and the aoe heal with the added shield is really helpful, on top of everything else, definitely not impossible, just a little harder until you get leeches.
i've healed haukke manor, brayflox's longstop, sunken temple, titan, and cutter's cry without an issue, if anything i wish our aoe heal was stronger
AoE healing is a balancing act for Scholars in 4 mans. Its based around use of your Lv 30 and 35 heals and then using the shield from those spells as buffer room to start patch healing with your efficient heal and the Fairy. I think Scholars are supposed to struggle with AoE healing because their mana returns are so vast that the only thing that can put a dent in their MP is damage spread throughout your party.
I managed to heal all dungeons fine. Dont need to cleanse the dots, easily heal through them.
Yeah definitely don't need to dispel poisons. The biggest issue I had pre 40 were paralyze fights, specifically the Chimera boss in Cutter's Cry I think it was? Throws a lightning ball at you that follows you, maybe it disapears after a while I haven't tested it enough but it basically 30sec paralyze you and that's extremely annoying since it makes you fail your heals repeatedly. But Brayflox was easy, even though the fight lasted forever cause the tank tanked the dragon in poison for about 5mins before he figured to move it, and I still had no issue keeping him up the entire time as well as healing the rest of the group.
I've noticed this as well.
Although Succor is weak in the amount of HP it returns, it still provides a light shield as well, and despite spamming it during Garuda, I never once struggled with MP. I was able to restore an incredibly amount of MP and keep a strong reserve of it through the worst parts of the fight as I Energy Drained her for even more MP. Succor was strong enough to keep the party alive through it all and shield them from damage as well. When a SCH needs to, they can protect their party from damage at the cost of their massive reserves of MP, just make sure you don't hit 0.
oi lol I must be the worst Scholar then~ I just dont have the mana to spam heal through double dots on people, and Aether flow only gives back enough mana for 4 small heals or 2 of the level 30 scholar heal.. for me anyway!
You can't heal properly until 40? >.> Please just quit Scholar.
I beg to differ. http://youtu.be/qDoosxUwx6Q
I do just fine thank you very much.
I've been doing pretty good so far. No trouble on anything until I hit The Aurum Vale. I only got to try the first boss once because the tank left, but my faerie almost immediately exploded from the stacking poison debuff...and you can't remove it from her. :/
lol I'm not the only one then, it happened twice to me exactly the same 1 dps left, one with BLM another with SMN, I have to admit though that fight is really tough, the hardest so far for me, almost always someone would get caught in AoE and if it's the bomb it's instant death (like me the first time I did the fight, my expectations were low because the 2 previous fights were very easy, then this...), the next dungeon (lvl 32) was easier =/ .
As a Scholar, I can't even imagine healing as a WHM!! I love it, so much fun. Weaving in Energy Drain and Aetherflow makes life so exciting.
I am still getting used to the healing AI. It doesn't seem so bad.
Again, I have to call BS on this thread. I was able to carry my entire group in Hautte Manor - even going so far as solo'ing 3+ mobs at a time.
I've hard zero issues keeping my teammates up through level 38 dungeons. The game was laughably easy at lvl 30. Queue up as a healer, you'll be fine.
EDIT:
My main hint is you have to learn Bane range, Aetherflow mechanics, and go into battles properly buffed.
I did Brayflox's Longstop last night and again I think the healing is fine. Even with the tank not hold aggro well be able to micro manage my faerie I could stop the extra de-aggros with little stress to my mana bar.
cadoran im a massive noob so can you tell me why is leeches so helpful ive done almost all the dungeons and i honestly dont see a need for that ability yet. the only dungeon i would use it on would be the lv 47 one dont remember the name im a 48 shc
Mostly removing paralyze. Also amdapor and wanderer's palace both have bosses which put a healing reduction debuff on the tank. Can also remove various dots and stuff so your fairy doesn't spend a cycle healing someone losing health, but not a big deal. 30secs paralyze on you can be rough before you have leeches(chimera boss for example).
What are you talking about??? Scholar excels from the start. I can't speak for higher, as I just got it, however since you stated they are useless from the start, at lvl 30, you couldn't be further from the truth.
I leveled WHM first, still as boring as ever, so decided to try out scholar, way easier, between the pet and mp restore I end every boss fight at full MP, it's absurdly easy. The only thing I semi miss is esuna, but not for any damage over time lol, just not being able to remove stun, slow, etc.
Not sure what you are doing with yours, but I find SCH much more effective and fun.
Don't blame the class...just ran Brayflox and Navel as scholor...below lv35. No problem with their healing capabilities.
What? I've healed every dungeon up to 50 with no real issue with the skills I had. Your tank is either pulling too much or you're playing your class very wrong some how.
The SCH is fine in terms of healing. Due to my own stupidity and hardcore grind I kind of forgot to do my classquest from 30 to 45. Dont ask why, but yes I did. Even though I missed some rather very helpful healingspell. I still did fine in the dungeons up to lvl 45, when I realized my mistake and got the missing spells. So dont say they are useless, cause they are not since I did fine with very little tools at hand.
Can you explain how you healed Brayflox? I spammed heals like crazy, but the tank taked too much dmg X.x I saw a posion on tank, but couldn dispell it...
Also, my Fairy mmm dunno if she is healing right. I target someone press the healing skill but she heals herself.
Eh, not to be rude, but what was the difficulty on brayflox? Poison status effects never were anything that couldn't be healed through. Once we figured out how to limit the poison spread by standing near current piles, it was easy. With regard to the tank taking damage, I think thats a bit of a server issue for the moment. The red ground effects were/are really hard to dodge if your lag is bad
My sister is new to mmos and on PS3 (even more lagged), so she often eats the area effect spells. Even considering this, everything up to and including dzemail darkhold has been done in under 3 party wipeouts (exception being that 2nd trial on the mesa). If people are taking too much damage, it is not your problem, it is theirs. They need to learn the mechanics. If you are stretched thing enough that you are running out of mana as a scholar or cannot keep up with heals, then you are carrying too much of the baggage. Works with the lower dungeons, but the higher ones are less forgiving.
Had no issue healing the first few dungeons (up to Qarn) for friends. Toto-rak I basically afk'd through letting the fairy do most of the work. Haukke was similar. Brayflox at least kept me awake. Qarn wasn't real bad.
Level 37 SCH here:
After leveling an ACN from 1 - 30 I was ecstatic to finally get a healer pet, not only did it alleviate my Physick spam heals but it also provided me with a lot of room to DPS while "healing". While do agree that the pet AI is god awful I still stand by the fact that SCH heals are quite good. Once you get the hang of your pet, as well as when it will throw heals out (when a target has lost 20% of their max hp the fairy will toss a heal to them), SCH healing becomes rather easy. Sometimes if a tank is good/geared enough I won't even have to throw heals out - I'll just use my 3 DoTs and then spread them with Bane.
If I had the choice to pick between a SCH and a WHM I'd choose a SCH anyday. I'm a big fan of the mana returns that SCHs have access to as well as the fairy and the DPS potential that it provides to the user.
My only complaint about Scholar heals is that, according to my higher level friends, level 30 is when they really start to turn up the difficulty of dungeons. Yet those are the dungeons I'm learning to heal on, since its the first time I can queue as a healer. So I know I've caused a fair amount of wipes experimenting with macros and faerie control methods. Oops.
