Please remove text input for last names

This is a big problem I struggle with and im not the only one. I play FFXI and theres no sir name or last names from your charcters. When i heard FFXIV was getting sir names I wasnt too hiped about it at first but once its been out its horrible. I have to type the persons lastname in /tell pretty much every person I talk to thats new or have not talked to them for awhile. The last name shoul only show up in battle and above the player.

So please remove it from /tell texted, its horrible.

And how many Venats will be wandering around? Restrict the tell to the area around you? What if you want to /tell someone on the other side of Eorzea? Expect them to /tell you? Oh wait, they're be more people named "John" as their first name, so they can't get to you. Yea, I can see how that will improve relaitonships.

I think a big issue with many players I see posting is this. They haven't immersed in 14 yet. I also had a few weeks of 11 thinking. Once I let go of wanting the game to be just like 11 I really starting understanding 14. Having 2 names instead of 1 is fairly easy to get used to. After playing the game since release I would not be happy if they suddenly changed my name now. Give it a shot. Having 2 names is not as bad as you think.

Theres alwas a name change option. Think SE would do it. Its not like your in a endgame shell that matters at this point in the game. Sooner the change the better.

Why? To force people to change their name if their first name were the same as someone elses? That would cause A LOT of unnecessary grief for players.

I really like having a name and surname.
And, it's not a problem, with all our shortcut for replies.

Venat, how about you visualise this; You're in a room cramped full of people, all wanting to be known to the world. You have not recorded a single name down, and after you have recorded, you must go and tell those people that they have been recognised. By your logic, you decide to only take their first names. Ok, so you did it pretty quickly! You got mostly everyone! Time to tell them that they're registered...oh crap. Which John was it? Why do I have eleven Clouds? Which of those five Emily's was a hume? In the end, utter chaos.

Now, if you had surname; the roomful of people still exists. You record all the names down, but it takes longer to write them. But when you go back to tell them, voila! Easy, you're John Wannabe, and the guy next to you is John Wassup. Oh, hi Cloud Arnold, sorry, you were Cloud Cambridge. So YOU'RE the hume Emily Bricks, I got confused between you and the elezen Emily Tarturu.

Which one would you choose? Your choice.

As stated, the problem is that there are too many people with the same first name. Say....you want to send a message to Cloud Strife. So you type /tell Cloud Well...on the server, there is also a Cloud Stryfe, Cloud Strif, Cloud Stryf, and Cloud Sephiroth. Now...how is the game going to know who to send the tell to?

It can't be removed, because only the entire name has to be distinct. It's possible for people to have the same first or last name (but not both).

Add people to your friend list, it makes things much easier.

I thought you can set up nick names for the people you can send tells to. so no one is truelly forced to write out both names unless its once. And even still I know many games that use first and last names and none of those got changed.

There are 2 reika's on my server... so yea Last name is necessary.

I can tell you tho, when you are replying to someone or sending a tell to someone on your friends list or someone you sent a tell to in the past (before logging off), just type /t Ven then press tab. Peoples names are stored in the auto-translation window as well, it will fill in the rest for you.

This is quite possibly the most intelligent thing I've seen you write on these forums. (Congratulations!) /clap

But in all seriousness, this was a feature they were touting in interviews last year. Again, I realize this was under Tanaka, but they promised a system to where you could assign people in your friends list "nicknames" that you could choose yourself. This would allow for people to keep their last names, and /tells to be sent as they currently are, but also allow for the player to be able to quickly send /tells to their friends.

I'll try and find the interview when I get a chance. I'm currently at work posting this, haha.
