Crafting Leves - no items?

I picked up a crafting leve yesterday and noticed it didn't give me any materials to craft the requested item. Is that normal now?

It seems odd that with a battlecraft leve, you can just kill the requested mobs and whatnot. And similarly for a gathering leve you can go and just mine, fish or botany the requested item. But for crafting, I have to go and gather all the items myself? So, I need to level up miner and botanist just to do crafting now? (Yes, the other option is just to buy all the materials from the Markets.)

Yes crafting leves no longer give you materials to craft.

This isn't very fair to Disciples of the Hand, they want the items they should supply the materials, is only fair.

Yes it's a silly change. They need to change it back to how it used to be.

I like it now. At least it's more on par with disciples of war and magic. Otherwise there's no challenge. It encourages you to do multiple jobs to get the items for free or go find lower cost options. I personally think there's too much spoon fed exp. in the game as it is. People should not be able to burn 1-50 in four or five days. This is an MMO after all. Giving away this much exp is going to burn out content for the playerbase very quickly. Without quick expansions they won't be able to retain players.

@Seriphim85 I hate to break it to you but if you have the gil you can burn 1-50 in four or five days just by going to the vendors and buying the crafting items needed for the quest. Tell me were is the joy in that? In 1.0 I felt like my crafting classes were needed as if my skills mattered in the world. Yes i may sound retarded for saying that, but that was what I experienced back in 1.0 when i started back in August 2011. I hate how the new leves are now there soulless I feel like all am doing is just working on crafting class just to make gil. Well that my two gil and am sticking to it.

True enough but at least you have to have the gil, or do some homework on which ones are profit bearing leves, instead of being handed everything on a silver platter.

Just discovered this myself. Someone really didn't think this one all the way through. If someone in my FC or LS asks me to make something for them the deal is I will synth it as long as they provide the materials required. Why wouldn't it work that way here? I know it doesn't work that way in the real world, but here in ARR that's a really dumb idea as it will encourage people to basically buy their levels instead of actually crafting. I just bought over 21,000 xp for about 5000 gil. =/

Let me share something with you: You get a +200% XP bonus for turning in an HQ item to a tradecraft leve. Plus you get a roughly +200% to +300% XP bonus for each item you attempt to make HQ. If you're just buying finished items off the vendor to turn in, you're seriously wasting your money and throwing away tens of thousands of free XP.

THIS is why you don't get the materials for free. You can go get a freaking pickaxe and hatchet, maybe spend an hour gathering, and have literally everything you need to make a huge batch of items for a tradecraft leve that will yield, all totaled, at least six times as much XP between the HQ crafting XP bonuses and the HQ turn-in XP bonus.

Let me share something with you.

Welcome to FFXIV gil is everywhere and easy to come by. So they're not really wasting gil purchasing items for turn in for quick leveling (I'm sure RMT will love this feature). On top of that it's a buyer's market right now (will be for sometime to come too) and everything is dirt cheap given all the competition within the market. Also you do realize you can buy HQ items right?

As others have pointed out it doesn't make sense. If you do decide to do the leves legit without buying out of the market you essentially have to level other tradecrafts in order to complete a leve. Last I checked you don't have to level botanist in order to do mining leves, you don't have to level DoM classes in order to complete battle leves as a DoW, ect do you? The idea behind leves is for people to be able to gain a leve allowance, so they can get a steady and consistent feed of experience in order to level. The idea here and now is just bad.

Change is fine, crafting leves are the best leves to do and give insane amounts of exp.

DoL kick butt too. Quite a huge chunk of xp compared to the horrid low xp hits you get when farming. Sure you sacrifice item gains, but compared to the xp I get from synthing ... its a no-brainer to me

(regular high Q -> HQ synth around your level nets a very sweet amount of xp) Far less time than same DoL rank... and the time you do grinding DoL, you are getting your DoH mats :p

Spent more than half an hour today working on 12 pcs of HQ items to complete a delivery... but I didn't know delivering HQ items to normal quests (i.e. not Tradecraft Leves) would NOT yield double EXP... >_<"

I don't have an issue with the way it is. If I'm going to do a tradecraft leve, I'm probably going to do at least 5 of the same one anyway, so I'll get the materials together and make them, then turn them in repeatedly. Finding the materials myself is the least I can do if I'm going to gain ~25% of a level for an HQ item. ;)
