SE should provide more servers for Group NA/EU

Population in the US: 313.9 million (2012)

Population in Europe: 739.2 million (2011)

Population in Japan: 127.8 million (2011)

Number of servers for NA+EU: 20
Number of LEGACY servers for NA+EU: 5
Number of server for JP: 20
Number of LEGACY servers for JP: 5

so this is a disproportion between population and the number of servers.

Going by those numbers NA/EU should have about 206 servers to equal JP.

I think they should either get rid of the Group NA EU or JP thing so players don't tend to choose sides, or increase the number of servers on NA EU side.

there are asian, ocean, NA/EU, JP play on JP server, just like there are JP, ocean, asian, NA/EU play on NA/EU server.

The Only question I have is

Number of FFXIV accounts (legacy/1.0/new) for each region?

Then I believe we could argue about number of servers (even if it is just labeling and we can play anywhere)

People say "add more servers!" like SE can just stroll down to the local radio shack, buy a couple servers, and plug them in just like that. Amazingly enough, it takes more work than that, especially when the datacenter in question is several countries away.

tell me why the NA EU servers are so full right now but not JP servers then?

Most people will still flock to the perceived good servers regardless of problems with overpopulation you add a ton of new servers and they become ghost towns while a handful of servers are still way over capacity

I have been playing on Faerie and have had minimal troubles getting in and playing

I dont think adding more servers would fix the issues. Legacy servers for example are full and these people are already (mostly at least) in Free companies and would not wish to divide this.

And good point about JP servers also serving people in the whole Asia... I actually never thought of that myself as it is called "JP servers" - Maybe it should be called "Asia servers".

but the thing is ppl in Asia who speak English but not Japanese tend to go to NA servers too. that's a problem !

I'm more concerned about transfers. I've got friends who can't play on my server now because its full.

I think the fact NA/EU servers are overloaded is reason enough to add more servers, regardless of all the semantics being argued in this thread. If JP need more servers too, then give them more servers too.

I'm waiting anxiously to see what they do. Trying to look objectively I counted the servers which character creation shut down and on non-legacy NA servers that character creation was shut down on it was 20%. NA Legacy 75%. Japan legacy 80%. Japan non-legacy 30%. Creating "new" legacy servers seems rather challenging or silly, depending on how you look at it.

This morning, there is a post that next week Japan datacenters get an upgrade. Good, because numbers show that they need it more. Traffic hasn't been measured yet for the NA launch, so that should be interesting. Will there be a datacenter upgrade for NA?

But it seems clear at this point that the number of servers is not the problem, they have been intentionally (artificially) throttled. Once throttled, they still aren't experiencing good traffic - the common saw is that it's AFK players, but how many are "Smoke Weed" and "Server Full" that moved somewhere only due to their selected server being full? Those people won't stay, shouldn't stay, and are making it hard for SE to count the users, and not understanding that they serve no useful purpose -- and are impacting other people's game-play with their antics. What they really seem to need are some network queuing theory specialists from the university to get a real reading on the problems. Feels like bad programming to me, which means it isn't scalable.

In short, I remain unconvinced that they could get this problem to go away by adding servers. Playing through early launch taught us that instances go down too quickly, duty finder is full of bugs. All that happens if we add more servers is they turn into ghost towns in one month, and they can't handle the load after n00b zones when the duty finder becomes well used.

For now, best they can hope for is limping along, and a few weeks down the line, put transfers in place to clean up the mess once it works itself out.

if SE has a way of making players not to choose sides then all fine. English speakers all like to go to NA servers that is a fact no matter what.

and English speakers in Australia , New Zealand, India, Indonesia ... even in China etc etc... you can count..
