So, with the login limitations. How catastrophic is tomorrow going to be?

I got my airship pass and mid cutscene the game boots me. Just to meet my old friend Error 1017.

Yeah this is another typical 1017 thread I admit. But how is this going to be fixed in a few hours? Get better servers SE because if this keeps up well into the official launch this is going to look VERY bad for you and extremely bad for ARR.

I actually want this game to succeed, but as of right now, you guys suck.

We'll know tomorrow, it could be fixed it could be not fixed. Also, most people who were going to buy this game already did. It's not like they've sunk millions into marketing, I don't see ads anywhere outside of Japan. Which also seems to tell us that Square Enix really didn't think anyone in NA was even going to play, which is why the servers are a mess.

Sci-Fi channel has a commercial for it but that's the only one I've seen on TV (then again, I don't watch much TV).

I've been thinking the same thing about them not expecting the popularity it got.

Adult Swim has shown commercials for the game I've been told.

Saw a couple ones in a mall in Canada, but yeah, to answer your question, its not going to be fixed tomorrow. Then again, I expect pretty much everyone that was going to play it already bought it

Tomorrow will be worse. I really doubt they're going to fix it.

Unless they double their Na/Eu bandwidth and capacity overnight, I see another flop of an mmo inc, then the game will run fine once everyone leaves because SE can't cope with the fact that there are 10x the NA/EU FF fans that there are in Japan, yet JP has only 4 full servers and 19 sitting there barely being used ( i know i'm on one of them while i wait for 1017 to go to a special kind of hell) and NA/EU has maybe 3 that are even taking characters atm. PRO planning SE....

What will happen is probably more server will be up , or they will do an extended maintenance for server upgrade during night time . ( I hope . )

No way can they concider leaving the limitation as it is right now .. If most EA user cant connect , think about everybody else who will buy this game tomorrow ..

Guys, this problem is NOT going to go away. SquareEnix needs to do four things to solve the server congestion issues. Two of which they have made extremely obvious they have no intention of doing, and the other two they seem rather disinclined towards as well.

First, remove the Error 1017 stating that the world is full. If the world is full, place the player in a queue and TELL HIM HOW DEEP IT IS. At this point players can either tab away from the game while they wait or choice to exit and go do something else.

Second, implement an "away from keyboard" auto-disconnect such as is present in EVERY OTHER MMO. If the server does not receive a hardware control input from the client (via keyboard or mouse) for a set period of time (15 minutes seems to be average across most games, but exact length doesn't matter as long as it exists) then the server disconnects from the client with a message along the lines of "You have been logged out due to inactivity"

Third, create new worlds for the NA/EU data center(s). As it stands all but 2 worlds were completely full last night, and with the actual launch tonight those two will fill up within hours, if not minutes. With the number of people receiving Error 1017 and the fact that 23 of the 25 worlds are full, I would probably consider adding at LEAST 10 new worlds.

Finally, implement a way for players to move existing characters over to less populated worlds. Ideally this should also allow for group movement for people who are playing with friends and for professional gaming guilds who got broken up by the insane login and character creation limitations. This also needs to be FREE. It only needs to be in place and free for a week or so for the populations to balance out.

If SquareEnix did those things their congestion issues SHOULD balance out to the normal level for a MMO launch, but I can't promise that it will, or even that SE will actually do what is needed.

Well, it's not like were beta testers. We've already paid for the game. Will they care any more for the people who are starting tomorrow? Nope.

Guess what? That fucking limitation has been in place since about 4am PDT on Saturday. We are 6 hours away from official launch and end of Early Access and ITS STILL THERE. My guess is SquarePenis has decided to tell NA to go suck a dick.

Regarding the 'most people that wanted already bought' argument -- don't forget that all of us 1.0 non-legacy players that didn't buy again, will be coming in tomorrow as well.

tommorrow servers will be down all day and night, you can almost guarantee it. And the reviews will roll out, and well, a lot of the people on the fence I can;t see them bothering.


If I some how got into the game now I am not sure I would even play, I have a sour taste in my mouth towards this game, and company, right now

The things your asking them to do can't be implemented in less than a day, nor can they just magically make servers appear. They likely didn't think they needed a afk kicker which is dumb if you ask me but it is what it is. And the server transfer stuff isn't going to added until a few weeks from now. They screwed up, but it's not like they aren't trying to fix it.

Totally agree on this part.. They're front end is terrible. Stupid flipping 1017. ONE time i get 90th in queue and then its like HAI IM 1017 Nice to meet you! This is very annoying, I want to see how many are in queue or something to see if my chances are better. I just got done spamming 0 on my number pad for an hour.. with a few moments to rest my finger from massively pressing it, I am new to the FF Scene and i can honestly say this is very annoying :( I DON'T care if i am 2000 in queue for my server i mean really give me a number where i can actually sit back and wait. I don't want to sit here for an hour with the same resulting 1017 and minor teasing with the loading screen for a minute and then back to 1017... for a new user to ff this is not right.

I'm sorry (not really, just like SquareTards) but no, they ARE NOT trying to fix it. They are doing little tweaks here and there and the occasional server reboot to try and pacify the NA/EU masses. That's it.

Welcome to your first Online RPG. During times where a game receives more users than originally anticipated, minor tweaks to see the servers breaking points will absolutely be tested. You should probably expect this for the next 2-3 weeks. It's no different than any other MMO on the market, they all have their own annoying problems that gate people from playing one way or another. This game is no different, nor will the next 575237583 MMOs released.

Been there done that. I refuse to roll on another world because the world I want to be on WITH MY FRIENDS is full. This is an MMORPG, not a single player game

Considering that they have sat on their hands for >24 with minimal improvent in the situation and next to NO communication... tomorrow is going to be a cluster f__!

I think ill just create a character on a JP server. Is there a server where most NA folks have wondered to? Ohh and a tidbit side note, I pinged both the JP server set and the NA server set and received a difference of about 10 to 15 ms from the pacific time zone area. Going to eat and have some fun. See everyone soon. \^_^/

The least they could do is let the que continue past like 40. I've managed to luck out and get into que twice and both times it said 37. I could care less if it's like 1000... at least I'd know I'd eventually get into the game. The total lock out is more than annoying. 12 years of MMOs and did beta + launch of some major games (EQ2, SWG, WoW, TERA, and SWTOR), and this is the first time I've seen them lock out people entirely when server is full.

Obviously everyone hates error 1017, cause it's basically telling you the queue is full and try later. The only thing I think wasn't done right was the length of phase 4 and early access. Phase 4 wasn't too bad though, but if early access was released a bit earlier, these issues would have been fixed by release. Right now they may get them fixed by that time, but it's hard to say until it actually happens. I would agree with the statement that they didn't think it was going to be as popular in NA, but I figured they would have had an idea on the number through pre-orders alone.

Either way, it does feel a lot like many starting MMOs, where they don't expect these kind of numbers and their servers are not working because of the number of people. Unfortunately, with many things, the grand opening is the most hectic, because there's almost always too many people for at least a week. In this case it's hard to say, but I'm hoping SE will manage to pull something out of their hat within the first couple days. Until then, it's like playing the lottery every time you try to log in.
