Changes to Sentinel

Ok so we know that the sentinel is a secondly class, but I don't see the point in this I believe that they can very easily make it a normal class, while allowing others to equip shields. I can see a lot of benefits to doing this such as adding a new tank option, making a new weapon, etc. So here a idea of how to make Sentinel into a normal class.

Sentinel
-to unlock the shield for other classes you must get Sentinel to rank10 that unlocks a trait that allows you to equip shields on other classes that are 1 handed in the secondly slot.
-You can still rank up Sentinel when its in your Secondly slot, but the exp is 70% less.
-When ranking up Sentinel in the Secondly slot there is a cap on the amount of exp you are capable of obtaining. You can only rank up Sentinel as a secondly skill to halve the rank of the main class. (Example if your rank is 10 you can only get Sentinel up to Rank5 as a secondly skill. So the max you can get it to as a secondly skill at max rank with all the classes is 25.)


Shields
-When a shield is equipped in the main hand your class changes to Sentinel
-Can use all shields
-Tower shields are a new type of shield only use able by Sentinel.

New skills have a + in front of the rank

+Rank1:Rejuvenation (Converts all MP to HP)
(Unlocked main Scenario quest 2)
Rank2:Aegis Boon (500TP)
Rank4:Shield Bash (500TP)
+Rank8:Mediguard (Gives a strong Regen effect, and raise def by 20%, but cannot execute any attacks while under this effect.) (TP:1000)
+Rank10:Shield Bearer (Trait) (Allows others to equip shields in secondly slot)
Rank12:War Drum
+Rank14:Last stand (If the next hit is supposed to K.O you, your HP stays at 1 HP.)
Rank16: Outmaneuver
+Rank20:Heavy Bash (Guild)
+Rank20: Deathward (When HP is at 10%, activation of this skill raises TP to 3000)

Sentinel is my highest class even tough I never use "Guard", my shield still at 100% condition

I remember seeing Sentinel as a class of it's own when people found all those images of all the different classes and it that image Sentinel had 2 shields.

I think Wielding two shields is a little weird lol, but maybe it can be a unique weapon class like H2H that cannot be dual wield.

Sentinel is fine as it is, we don't need to implement it as a subjob. For the classes it was designed for (Gladiator) is accomplishes its purpose.

I know Sentinel was designed as a sub skill, but what im suggesting is a possible way to make it its own class. Plus by making it its own class it offers many benefits, and a new class never really used before in a MMO, imagine fighting with a tower shield I see it pretty interesting, and it offers new skills that can also be used by the other classes.

Benefits
-New shields
-New skills
-New guild
-Additional Benefits to users of shields that decide to go pass rank 25
-New class
-New tank option for those that don't feel the current option fit them
-easier to implant than a brand new class.
-etc

I still don't think you should make it a subjob by reducing its skill level to half of whatever your main is. That would make it pretty useless for gladiators.

Fencer and Flayer were in the data mined class list from Alpha I think, those would also add something that hasn't really been done in other MMOs and would actually be a viable combat class.

Kingdom Under Fire Circle of Doom wants to have a word with you. One of the main characters can equip shields on either hand, or both at once. Dual Wielding Shields i actually the most powerful setup in the entire game.

IIRC theres combo that lets you crush both shieds together if your using chain shields Its been years since I played that game.

Which is why Sentinel in it's original form for FFXIV has been changed as a tank setup with two shield was probably to over powered.

SE made huge changes to the game before release like removing all of the DoH/DoL abilities to fight. Miner for example was originally supposed to be a THF type class with Treasure Hunter and Steal. Even after the games release it still said that on the official FFXIV site for a while. This goes a long way to explain why those classes are such a ridiculous grind, it's because they weren't designed to level solely on crafting and gathering, they were suppose to fight alongside DoW/DoM classes. It also explains why missions are so stupidly easy as they had to dumb everything down so the DoL/DoH classes can complete them.

I believe SE realised the balancing nightmare they created with the armory system and pulled a lot of stuff at the last minute and since then have been scratching their heads wondering how they can sort out the mess they have created.

A spiked shield WOULD be awesome though...

I actually think sentinel should be removed as a class. Give Gladiator and the mage classes their own shield skills (and 2hand skills while they're at it).

The concept of sentinel as a second class is pretty stupid, to put it bluntly. It served no useful purpose, and there isn't any compelling reason why it needs to be that way.

If this is th case i want a weaver to be a main fighting class and they dual hand dress shirts and fight mobs like Jackie Chan
and then be gather class and way you kill ur mob is to smoke a bowl and get them high then kill them

It works plenty well as it is. I'd say this would be a waste of development resources much needed elsewhere.
