Inactive Disconnect Poll

I know there are multiple threads talking about this. If you like or believe that inactive (afk) should have an auto boot

If you do not make a movement or action with your controller / keyboard in 30 minutes you should be disconnected.

Chatting , inventory organizing and all these actions would count as active. Any actions or interface with the system counts.

If your sitting there or following someone for 30 minutes with out some system interface your afk an get disconnected.

I vote / support this idea and would like to see it added before official release. like this, bump it.

If people knew it would only be a few minutes before they could log on, they wouldn't idle on the servers when they aren't playing.

I say 30 minutes for the fact I have little kids, I don't think that if I have to change a diaper and clothes or whatever I should get disconnected. There are many things I might have to do that may take more than 10 minutes.

Heck, 20 to 40 minutes would be a huge improvement over what's happening now.

I understand that life happens but 30 minutes is way to long imo. That half an hour that people will be wasting doing nothing(in game) is a half an hour others could be been using for progressing their character.

The fact that people are consigning themselves to the point where this is an option shows how terrible the primary problem is. Booting afk people will not even put a dent in server stress considering the fact they have had to continue to lessen the amount of concurrent users several times. This would be a short term and largely ineffective solution.

They can't service the amount of people they have now.....and it appears they are not even close. And when launch comes the general population will double. Kicking afk people won't make up for that kind of influx. The only long term solution is in hardware, not game features. I can't believe they messed up this badly after 1.0 nearly sunk their company.

Yes it maybe just a bandage on the wound but it would still help. There is no reason not to have inactive auto disconnect. Anything that limits and regulates the amount of players that can be on at one time should also self purge those that are not participating and using valuable slots that others are waiting to open up

many large scale games do this so I don't see why this one should be any different.
especially if you are going to lock so many people out of the game because of full severs

Honestly 30 minutes of inactivity is more than enough. Yes it does seem on the long side, but considering FFXI you didn't get booted at all. I can deal with 30 minutes. No more bazaar means higher FPS response. Auto disconnect means higher FPS and less network congestion. Works for me.

I'm sure they do data analysis to understand the percentage of active characters logged on as opposed to the total number of characters registered on a specific server during peak hours, and it's never going to be 100 percent. I don't know of many MMOs or multiplayer games that do not have an inactive timer. In a situation like this, where people logon and don't logoff, how can we know how many people are actually not playing? I'm sure a timer would help a lot. Say the server maxes out at 75% of total registered users. What is happening now is that same 75% is holding the server and the other 25% is never getting to play. Are there 25% logged on right now who aren't playing?

I COMPLETELY support this. I would hope this would eliminate 3102 errors go away. Currently I can't log in b/c "I'm already logged in" they claim. Maybe having some kind of a time limit boot would keep the servers from being so overcrowded? I'm assuming many people aren't logging off (no matter what) b/c it's so hard to actually GET IN these days.

I think that 1 hour is perfectly fine, it gives times for those with kids and such to deal with their real life without interfering too much.

I know anything is better than nothing but an hour? I was gone an hour putting my 3 kids to bed. Something that is going to take that long yes you should log off. You give me an hour besides the days I choose to work and when I need to sleep I would never have to get off. I can do all my normal daily duties and routines w/o getting off.

I will take any timer over now timer.

30 minutes, max. SE is obviously blessed with very talented game designers & artists - and the absolute worst network engineers in the business. If companies with a track record of actually making decent MMO's (aka not SE) HAVE to have an auto boot system, I'm not sure why these impotent jokers think they don't. Or are they so talented and successful that they thought they'd found a better solution? LOL

I just think we need to keep this concept going. I know a lot of these threads putter out as people are able to get in and on. I have finally gotten back in but I would like to see something like this implemented.

So when you do get back in or just in contact with those that you play with have them come and bump / like this thread so SE can see the support and desire to reduce the amount of players AFK wasting space.

Oh yea when I did get in the queue system was back up that releases some of the disgruntle customer feeling. But lets still push to end the AFK trend

I say 30 mins or an hour AFK and they get the boot, the old discolored smelly boot. Drop these "I log in and then go party at the beach for five hours" types to the desktop so others can play. Instead of giving the finger to those trying to log in(without any queues), kick the buttheads who are idle. I played for a little while earlier after getting home from work and had to shut down my PC due to a bad thunderstorm, no luck getting back in, just 1017.

Defiantly should have at least a 30 minute limit!

Don't let this issue die. If they are going to restrict the number of players who can log into the servers then they need to make sure those who are logged in are not idle for endless hours.

It's more than just a problem of people being able to log in.

I went around and grinded without the duty finder to the point where I could open a Free Company with friends. We started it, signed some people up, and now I'm locked out. How can I run a FC without being in the game? This problem will hurt the set up communities which are a huge deal for starting MMO's. Out of 7 people I know who are part of this game, only 1 got to play yesterday.

The 1 that doesn't have a job. Win.

SIGNED Couldn't play all day yesterday! Server is full (of AFKers)

I will sign. My thought is that if log in is being restricted due to the number of people on the server, there should be an Idle timer to kick off the people AFK to let someone else on to play, who has been trying to log in. I spent 4 hours straight trying to log on until I finally was successful yesterday. That is a larger part of my weekend play. When I finally got on and ran through the different towns for my lvl 15 story quest, I saw many many people just standing around AFK. It look like more people were AFK then were actually playing. Believe me, I was very very angry at this because I was not able to log in because these selfish people were taking the spot from me. Please set an AFK timer. Let them log back in when they are ready to play. Many people were laughing at the ones trying to log in saying to us "That's why I just go AFK, so I don't have to log in".

30min seems fair, this with a descent working queue should at least make this problem more tolerable..

kicking people for being AFK is not the answer, it's just a short term solution. I can honestly say that while playing the past 2 days, i haven't seen that many AFK people personally.
What if you have to eat dinner, take care of kids....
What if you have to do something for half an hour and come back to find out you have to wait to log back in again?

If they implement this forced booting due to being AFK, what next? Kicking people for being logged in and playing for 20 hours straight? Why should someone be allowed to play for 20 straight hours while there are people who just want to play for 1-2 hours?

I think yes...but not until the average duty finder queue time drops to under 10 mins. For reference, my queue times have been around 20-mins on average.

100% agreed. 20 minutes is very reasonable, bumped to 45m if you explicitly set yourself /afk.

LOTRO had something like that - after N amount of time you were logged out (returned to char select screen), M time after that the client exited entirely.
I don't remember the exact values for N and M, but I am pretty sure that N was lengthened if you used /afk.
