[Question] Will we ever be able to ride Chocobos/Airships?

One of the main things that are missing from the now famous charts by Yoshida-san are Chocobos and Airships.
They are a staple in the Final Fantasy mythos, and a big tease in the game, considering that there are stables and even airship stations but we can't interact with them.

My question is: is the implementation of Chocobos and Airships even on the radar of the development team? What is their priority?

Honestly traveling is one of the biggest problems of this game, there's a LOT of running to be done, especially since Anima tends to be in short supply. Adding chocobos and Airships would mitigate the problem quite a lot, so I would encourage the team to bump up their priority a little (if it's low at the moment), because I feel that we really need their implementation as soon as humanly possible.

I'm sure they're planning to add mountable chocobos eventually but i would also like to know where this is on their priority list

I bought this game pre-order, and personally, I'm starting to think it's been quite a damn while before they've mentioned it, myself. It really should be their top priority. Sure, all those others things they've updated since the release of the game have been extremely helpful, the game was still playable. I would gladly trade any of those new enemies, new helpful healing features, all that fancy stuff.. Just to ride a Chocobo. Once in my life. Isn't that the dream? And isn't an Airship the major step-up from the chocobo? That one thing that you had to work so hard for in FFXI.. ?
Ahh, and as a little dorkish noob back then.. Sticking around for six hours straight (Or perhaps six days) just to feed a sick chocobo just to be able to ride one. I would gladly do anything, no matter how difficult the quest, to ride a chocobo in Final Fantasy XIV.

All I'm saying is I'm not going to be patient. I know they'll come out with it 'eventually', but I'm not just going to ignore it and eventually forget about it like they seemed to. This is important, and it's the main symbolism of any Final Fantasy game. You know that. We all know that. Chocobos and Airships should have been in the game before it was released, and you know that everyone was disappointed as all hell that they weren't. This NEEDS to be top priority, and they need to at least mention it. Don't tell me my impatience is without reason.


.. Oh, and by the way, wasn't breeding and racing not released into FFXI until much later? Don't tell me that's why it's taking so long. We should at least have riding immediately.

It isn't a matter of patience. Knowing where it is between the priorities would be enough, since the last that mentioned them was Tanaka.

We will get them soon, and then, we will need to do a quest to ride them, and the quest isn't released yet /facepalm

There was a class called "Sheperd' discovered in old beta files. I would not be surprised if this class turns out to be a Chocobo Shepard, aka a new DoL job heavily involved with the chocobos themselves. AKA you want to ride, you equip the Job item and can now ride one. But we shall see.

Almost half a year after release, and still no chocobos.

I think we will have both chocobos and airships soon, seeing as both are already present in the game. I saw an airship yesterday as i was in the outskirts of Limsa Lominsa, and there is already chocobo stables.

Oh of course we will have airships / chocobos =D !! Right now tho, Yoshi P working on the main core issues of the game but will eventually start getting the chocobos we so want =D

Yeh it is stupid.

We have the models, they have animations. If you mob file swap to chocobo it will run around its fully animated, we've seen airships they're all animated, theres already an airship dock in every city we've seen that from people flying around using "against the tos stuff", we've already got the "system" for airships that is being used by the ferry that could be copy pasted (see that? something you can benefit from by copy pasting) and riding chocobo isnt difficult.

So why they're not done i dont know.

We didn't see chocobos/airships till Zilart in XI. That was almost a year after the games release.
Well probably get that stuff once we get Ishgard, aka the PS3 launch.

Well, now now, i'm pretty sure the models and the animations aren't the only thing that's needed to include a full chocobo riding feature :D

Actually, Yoshi-P has mentioned them in recent interviews, as recent as last week. From what I read, he understands that having chocobos and airships is extremely important to making this a true Final Fantasy game, and that they're working on them. They want chocobos to be different from what they were in XI, and I'm sure they'll be in the game when the time is right for them.

Mh that sounds a lot like what tanaka used to say. I missed that one.

I'd also like a response on this from the actual game developers, and not just fellow uninformed players saying "They'll get to it, I"m sure." We heard that from enthusiasts every single day of alpha, beta, and closed beta, and look where that got us. :3

It would kinda be uninformed to assume well have a FF game w/o Chocobo's. Same goes for airships and someone named Cid. If memory serves me right, there was only one FF game w/o a Cid. And like Pico says, Ishgard is key. Ill bet money that is the first expansion pack. And I'm just salivating in anticipation that it will be an epic of epicness.

My theory is SE is keeping chocobos, airships and Ishgard for the PS3 launch so that the PS3 players have something new to look forward to. Who knows, with the delay they might even release an expansion at this time with new regions and base classes like musketeer, arcanist and shepherd that are supposed to be coming too.

In the meantime I suggest you all level a DoL to 30 to get the tier 5 speed ability. It makes running around a lot easier. Gridania to Tranquil for example you can get 3.5-4 minutes of constant quickening. If you're an archer you can use that Quickstride ability before you're out of range of grade 1 points and when you're in range of grade 3 to ensure you have quick on almost the whole route. Just one example.

Even if its just a morsel, I would really like to have some kind of hint as to what role the chocos will have and when we will see them, thats all i ask. Believe me I understand there is a myriad of tasks at hand before we see any form of game content add ons but please. just a morel

Well they already have the actually places built(and made I am guessing) they are probably just waiting for a big patch release or maybe till the PS3 release is my guess. Though I think if they add even one of those, people would start comming back, not in full numbers at all, but in smaller increments. The FFXIV needs some more of the classic FF elements to start having more people come back as well as join. (also needs the PS3 release cause I know a lot of people waiting on that xD)

I recommend anyone who loves Chocobos and plays this game, who hasn't seen the R30 Leatherworker Quest yet, to watch this video. I nearly had an orgasm last night from the awesome~ness of Ishgardian soldiers riding their war birds into battle.

On a side note, I don't want to come off by sounding cynical, but a part of me believes that we don't have things like Chocobos and Airships, and all this other wonderful content yet is due to the fact that the game is still free to play. It's going to probably stay that way too until they get all the essential problems fixed in time before moving onto new things.

I don't really see any other explanation. It's probably in storage waiting to be activated and implemented into the game in time for us to pay. In time for the PS3 launch when everything is up to snuff and ready to move the ball forward. That's at least my understanding from the lack of major content advancements.

But the other part of me says, to increase the user-base and encourage people to keep playing is to add Chocobos, Airships and open up new things to keep people coming back for more and be willing to pay knowing that they have something to look forward too. Again, I see anything remotely like this happening after that gargantuan adjustments to the game that the dev team has planned. I may be wrong, or I may be somewhat right. I don't care. I actually hope I'm wrong and they come out sooner. I just want my Chocobo.

I'm afraid that they're holding chocobos and airships as a last resource, if the revitalization of the game fails. I hope not :S

Chocobos would bring so many people to the game :D and it would be a MAJOR help :D
