Battle System & Character limit?

I've only just come back to check up on things (I had high hopes for this game) and I'm just wondering whether there has been any changes made on the Battle System and characters.

The battle system from when I was playing was quite slow. Has the .. 'time gauge' been sped up/improved/changed in anyway since release?

Do you think it's possible to make the gauge more similar to the one used in Final Fantasy XIII ?

Also I'm confused as to why we have to pay for each character? I think this 'thought' is flawed, but I bought the game, yet I have to pay to access the characters?

I argue that MMORPGs need the monthly fees to operate, but to pay for characters doesn't make sense.

It wouldn't hurt if your first (or even first two) character(s) was(were) free, and you could then pay for additional?

Also, I can't remember whether the ability to jump was implemented in the game (space bar jumping).

I know it's not really a necessity, but it's just another feature which makes things nice. It's hard to explain but I'm sure someone gets what I'm talking about.

I quit fairly early after the release of the game, so I'm most likely behind in most of the news.

If there's a page somewhere explaining all of this I'd really appreciate it if someone could post it :)

Combat is smoother, though it has only just begun receiving an overhaul. Characters are extra $$$ for two reasons. 1., it hits gilsellers in their wallets and 2., since one character can play every class regardless of race and can play any number of classes there is no "need" to have more characters. There is no jump, but some consideration is being given to the issue and it seems it will be implemented in some way shape or form. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/133 to check out a list of the most recent updates. Older than that is listed on lodestone, along with the results from the various player polls and a generalized plan of where the game is going.

but I think they need to do something to prevent "teleporter characters"

You wouldn't believe how glad I am to hear good news ^~^

I've deleted my character twice because 1. I think I was a conjurer(?) and it was really hard to train 2. I didn't know how to play one of the classes.

did you know we can change class? so we don't need to create a new char every time we want to play a new class...

the only reason most mmo charge a flat fee is the limit they put. one character 1 class, we are not limited to that, so no one needs to make other characters.

it seems you didnt know you could play any class, all you need to do is pick up another weapon and equip it and you change your class

And spend a few hours chatting with your friends while you wait for the timer to reset so you can reassign your stats. :)

xD I couldn't find out how to get other weapons.

And I couldn't find anyone at the time who wanted to talk/spoke english.

:S Not sure if my server actually has legitimate Japanese players or what o-o

The point is nothing is really a necessity but why limit your players to one gender/one race? It would be nice to at least be able to get 1 more 'free' character slot.

Maybe get to level 30? I don't know :) But It's not really fair to people who want to enjoy other races ^_^ It's not entirely important, but still.

Just having that availability ?

one more free slot = everybody has a personal teleporter :)

Now I think $3 is a little extreme but the fact stands that you can do every class on one character, to Rank 50. You don't necessarily need them.

Role-players would like a word with you :P. The character limit hits us hard in that arena. We like to have multiple characters to enhance our storylines and/or just to role-play a completely different character when we feel like it. While it doesn't impact us now due to the game being free, it'll hit the RP community pretty hard once the fees are implemented. FFXI's $1 per extra slot was difficult in that regard, though still manageable. $3 per slot is just brutal on us though >.>

then another one can teleport you with their teleporters

No. Gilsellers do not make mule characters on the same accounts.
