Onion cut
For the longest time now (ever since i got it) i have tried to figure out exactly what it is that the weapon skill Onion cut is supposed to do. Now i have finally given up and in a last ditch effort to find out i come here and ask.
What is it that Onion cut is supposed to do?
-
No idea.
+1 looking for this answer. ; ;

I read a long time ago something that SE posted:
"Certain abilities were intended for PvP and therefore might seem useless now."
Not an exact quote but was something like that, so possibly Onion Cut was desgined for PvP.
Just a guess.

Your character gets teary eyed after using it..

im wondering as well, time will tell O.o. Btw anyone find that rage of halone abil has any value?
-
I like Rage of halone. Its average damage is already slightly better than Howling Vortex (like 5% more dmg), that is by current best shot. But the casting time is a bit tricky...the best is to use when you see a monster reading heavy damage skills so it will get boosted if the damage comes during casting. I often use it against frogs, gobling and imps.
Also i find Halone very funny if the monster die before it going out...its like you "fart" all the stored energy lol! Only thing i don't like at Halone is that the animation doesn't match the skill...a dark smoke? Come on! Halone is Ice element! I HAD to be comething light blue! And if possible with ice animation! Would be much cooler an iceberg popping from ground and stabbing the monster from below! That's what i would call "Rage of Halone" =P

Anyone figure this out yet or is onion cut doomed to obscurity?
-
I bet you have to get level 90+ with full onion gear (including weapon and shield) before it becomes an awesome ability that deals 9999 damage every strike. Before that though, it's a piece of crap WS.
-
Yeah perhaps someone should try to bring this to the general discussion board under a more broad topic like "Weapon Skills that seem to have no purpose" =/
-
It seems that Onion Cut has an increased enmity modifier. I might be wrong though, someone test it out vs. other GLA weapon skills.
-
I even tried using Onion Cut in full Onion gear, to no avail ; _ ;

Onion Cut
Makes you cry in despair over what a useless ability it is.
-
i thought it was supposed to do more damage with the less hp you have, thats what i heard, never got into using it though.

When they changed the recast with the release of AA they seemed to change it's damage output... atleast it seems to be on par with howling vortex for me now.
-
My opinion is that it's more your average 'decent weaponskill' It might not have an added effect, but it seems to consistently do decent damage.
My guess from the description alone is that it would mitigate a certain amount of your target's defense.
Untested, but it's what I pull from it.

The one thing I have noticed about Onion Cut is it always out damages all my other weapon skills. From testing multiple weapon skills during the rank 25 dungeons it does seem to me to generate more enmity then the other weapon skills. It is the primary weapon skill I use.
I also love Luminous Spire

Onion Cut does 100% Slashing damage if I'm not wrong. Maybe that's it.

Hey guys. I'm new, but I remember reading that certain attacks may increase the chance of getting certain drops - such as body parts - or render opponents unable to perform certain attacks. No one has mentioned that so far - there is a short page about it on the Lodestone website. Granted it is pretty hard to tell but perhaps Onion Cut is simple one of those attacks that are more effective against certain enemies and may drop more meat for culinary uses (or something)
http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com.../battle02.html
For example, perhaps some of the Nefarious/notorious monsters have trouble dropping sought after items because of who it was or how it was that they were killed. Just a hunch on my part - and it's not like we're any hints in game.
