Why no official documentation about how to unlock Job?

Shouldn't they let us know how to unlock jobs like paladin, bard etc etc on the official website?

I think it is part of the fun. There are some websites out there that seem to be accurate tho. Did you have any questions about a specific one? Paladin = Gladiator 30 and Conjurer 15.

They will tell you in the game by the time you approach a level to unlock a job.

How did you know I want to become Paladin O_o; yeah , I am working toward Paladin. Just want to make sue I am not wasting my time on levelling up gladiator and conjurer.

So it is possible to start a conjurer and then level a gladiator on same toon.
Will I get jobs of both CNN and gladiator or only allowed one job as base toon.

You can be everything on one character. All classes, all jobs, all crafting classes, all gathering classes.

Great system and a vast improvement over other MMOs..Yoshi was thinking ahead over his coffee and cigs :)

Paladin – Defensive Tank. Requires 30 GLA / 15 CNJ. Cross-classes include CNJ/MRD.

Warrior – Offensive Tank. Requires 30 MRD / 15 GLA. Cross-classes include GLA/PGL.

Monk - Melee DPS. Requires 30 PGL / 15 LNC. Cross-classes include LNC/MRD.

Dragoon – Melee DPS, extremely mobile. Strong focus on jumping and aerial attacks. Requires 30 LNC / 15 MRD. Cross-classes include MRD/PGL.

Bard – Ranged DPS with minor support. Requires 30 ARC / 15 PUG. Cross-classes include PUG/LNC.

White Mage – Healer. Requires 30 CNJ / 15 ACN. Cross-classes include ACN/THM.

Black Mage – Ranged DPS. Requires 30 THM / 15 ACN. Cross-classes include ACN/ARC.

SMN's cross classes are THM/ARC not THM/CNJ btw*

Edit: turns out the information I was looking at was wrong, SMN *IS* THM/CNJ, my mistake

Here you can see where they listed Archer as a cross class for SMN, which is incorrect, Archer's only a cross class for BLM

Edit Edit: apparently Archer IS a cross class since the last patch... or might not... so SMN is either ACN + THM/ARC or ACN + THM/CNJ

For the minimum lvl you need to lvl cross classes in order to obtain all available cross class skills, here's a list:

THM: 26 (SMN, SCH, WHM)
ACN: 34 (BLM, SCH, WHM)
CNJ: 34 (SCH, PLD, SMN*)
GLA: 34 (WAR)
MRD: 26 (PLD, DRG, MNK)
LNC: 34 (MNK, BRD)
PUG: 42 (WAR, DRG, BRD)
ARC: 34 (BLM, ACN*)

So, a BLM needs lv34 ACN and 34 ARC to have all cross class skills,
WHM needs 26 THM, 34 ACN
SMN needs 34 CNJ(or 34 ARC*), 26 THM
SCH needs 34 CNJ, 26 THM
PLD needs 34 CNJ, 26 MRD
WAR needs 34 GLA, 42 PUG
DRG needs 26 MRD, 42 PUG
MNK needs 34 LNC, 26 MRD
BRD needs 34 LNC, 42 PUG

*Appears some sites SMN as being THM/CNJ and others list it as being THM/ARC, we'll find out soon which is correct

ACN does not count as a "cross class" for SMN because ACN is SMN's main class and cross class refers to the sub classes of that job

Each Job requires it's main class to be lv30 and a sub class to be lv15. Cross skills include the sub class required to unlock plus another sub class, so each job gains skills from 1 main class and 2 sub classes

wow great info here, thanks all for all the help. that really makes it much clearer what to plan for.

It was certainly 30 main class 15 subclass in 1.0, but it might not need a subclass leveled in ARR. we'll find out in 1hr 10m

I'm afraid Yoshi can't really take credit for this one. The base of this system was XI's system (all jobs on one character) and this specific system was Wada's baby.

Do you have to have a guide to figure out everything? Just play the game and it'll be revealed when you get to that point!

Well maybe not everyone wants to level all the classes just to fund out what job(s) will came out of it? Or more likely want to get access to their (first) favourite class most efficiently ...

Best plan: level your main class required for the job you want OR CNJ to 12. This unlocks Cure, Aero, Protect, and Raise which are useful no matter what you are. Here's a list of the jobs and the required classes/lvls:

Job = Main Class + Sub Class + Cross Class*
PLD = GLD30 + CNJ15 + MRD*
WAR = MRD30 + GLD15 + PUG*
DRG = LNC30 + MRD15 + PUG*
MNK = PUG30 + LNC15 + MRD*
BRD = ARC30 + LNC15 + PUG*
WHM = CNJ30 + ACN15 + THM*
BLM = THM30 + ACN15 + ARC*
SMN = ACN30 + THM15 + ARC*
SCH = ACN30 + CNJ15 + THM*

* = Cross class, not required to unlock the job, but the job will gain some skills from this class

And if you're curious how high to level the cross classes, here's a list of when they give their last cross class skill:

THM: 26 (SMN, SCH, WHM)
ACN: 34 (BLM, SCH, WHM)
CNJ: 34 (SCH, PLD)

MRD: 26 (PLD, DRG, MNK)
LNC: 34 (MNK, BRD)
PUG: 42 (WAR, DRG, BRD)
ARC: 34 (BLM, SMN)

So for a SMN to have everything, they'd need lv50 ACN, lv26 THM, and lv34 ARC

And if it's easier to read this way I combined the two since I have nothing to do while I can't log in -.-;

BLM = THM50 + ACN34* + ARC34
WHM = CNJ50 + ACN34* + THM26
SCH = ACN50 + CNJ34* + THM26
SMN = ACN50 + THM26* + ARC34
PLD = GLD50 + CNJ34* + MRD26
WAR = MRD50 + GLA34* + PUG42
DRG = LNC50 + MRD26* + PUG42
MNK = PUG50 + LNC34* + MRD26
