What do you guys use
That's weird. The only character I have available is my new character, level 15 Conjurer/level 1 Arcanist, and I've had no problems posting.
A wild info has appeared!
Now, another weird thing to me is that my Legacy character doesn't appear at all. I have no option to change characters.
Weird responses...
I use controller for everything, but healing is actually the best I've ever played since XI with a controller. It's really, really easy to do. All you do is scroll up and down, and it's very easy to que up heals and such.
Aye, some really random responses.
Personally, I use a keyboard and mouse. I find targeting PCs during FATEs to be a pain. I just write up a few mouseover macros and I'm all set.
I play on Keyboard/Mouse only. The F1-F9 keys are great for targeting.
I personally use Keyboard on my PC. When in a party its far easier for me to select my party members using the F1-F8 keys very quick for me. Even on PS3 I connect my keyboard and would rather use that.
With the limited amount of cures you can actually heal with just R2+ right gamepad buttons.
Keyboard, feels much more natural for me than the controller.
Keyboards.
I use a controller. In 1.0 i used keyboard/mouse but I prefer the controller now. Everything is just so much more convenient for me and does just about everything a kb/mouse does. :D
I use keyboard and mouse for when serious work needs to be done. They are far more efficient.
I keep a controller around for crafting / walking around town or anything else where extra button presses won't matter.
Controller + mouse
100% controller.
dont like being hovered my keyboard for hours. thats nice way to get repetitive stress injuries
the controller i have LB & RB buttons to tab left and right then i have a nearest target with one button. d-pad i use up and down for the party list.
I find targeting using the controller quite cumbersome. It's much easier to target using keyboard and mouse for me.
Healing only is fine with controller
but I find it a little more complicated to be extremely effective when you have to switch from mob (to put dots or sleep) to healing party
takes some extra time on the controller
apart from that it is pretty smooth
I will stay on controller until I find a battle that really need extremely precise reaction
Controller + Macros FTW!
Keyboard/Mouse. I like being able to use keybinds for my abilities vs the clunky system the controller has to offer.
Just so anyone's aware, on a controller, all you need to do to target your party members is up and down on the D-Pad, there is no difficulty in targeting party members at all.
Target ting enemies is similarly easy, as all you need to do is press the A/X button, and it will instantly select the closest enemy target. Sometimes carby can get in the way, but all you need to do is move forward, or move to the left or right. I just like being able to kick my feet up and enjoy a dungeon instead of getting swass and hunch-back syndrome.
What do you guys feel, regarding controller slots, which are the best abilities to set? Like, in terms of greatest use for a "white mage" what ability slots would u put in your quick menu cross hairs for a controller user?
I use a controller, as it is what I used in FFXI and 1.0 (so I'm just used to it), but as a bonus, it's easier on my RSI, and... I have small hands. Hitting the F1-F8 keys (or even the 1-5 keys) requires me to look down, move my hand, press the key, then look down again to move my hand back to WASD. Targeting on the controller, using the D-pad and targeting filters, is much easier and quicker for me, and because of the small hands issue, muscle memory for abilities works much better for me on the controller as well.
i play WHM & MNK for main's
you just have to get used to the way it works. the manual dont show how to use everything. need to switch cross bar tap (x360 controller)RB
or hold down RB then a list pops up then you can pick any of the 8.
LB & RB are like TAB left & right when in fighting mode. A button is nearest target and confirm. triggers use crossbar left & right, D-pad up & down are for the party list with cross bar inactive
if they add <st> macro placeholder from FFXI it will be flawless.
it does take a bit to get used to once you get it down its fast.
Shouldn't this thread be HERE? Not everything needs to go in general discussion.
On-topic: I'll be using both. The deciding factor is how much I'm chatting at the time. Putting my controller down everytime I want to type is annoying.
Controller. Movement is just so much better with it IMO.
Now that we can choose what hotbars show up in R1 cycling, can have macros move us to different hotbars to easily move through combos, and can have our hotbars change depending on if we are in or out of battle, I'm immensely enjoying creating a custom controller setup for all the options they give you.
They are also discussing giving us a 3rd set of 8 actions by holding both triggers down, which would give us 192 action slots.
keyboard and mouse
Mouse/Keyboard
I've used my naga so long I can't adapt to the controller. Besides it's easier for me to use my mouse. I'm more responsive and faster with M/KB. More precise targeting.
Surprisingly playing with the controller was a lot easier then the mouse keyboard combo
Back in 1.xx, I was strictly keyboard for White Mage.
Now: I use Controller. Feels so much better then back in 1.xx.
I tried healing with Keyboard by clicking the people's names in the party window, but that lead to several deaths because for some reason, you needed to click the CLASS ICON instead of the name. And clicking that was also incredibly off. I'm sure it's better now but I'm not giving it another chance after playing with Controller for so long
You realize many players who use keyboard don't hunch over keyboards at all, right? lol Many of us sit up strait or lean back just like controller users. :)
Yes the controllers offer the scroll option. But it is just as fast if not faster to use the F keys. You can specifically target players rather than scroll through them.
No ones saying what is better. They are saying what they like to use.
I use both controller and keyboard. Most of the time I stick with the controller because it's what I'm used to as I played XI for nearly ten years. It's really easy to target most of the time using the D-pad. Sometimes though, especially in a light party like a dungeon, if things get a little bit rough and I need to target someone super-quick, I can do it faster with the F-keys.
Played FFXI for the longest with controller but not the only reason I'm using controller, the other reason is say I'm stuck for some time on playing it on PS3 or PS4 at least I am already used to the controller.(I have the game on PC and PS3 currently).
I played FFXI and 1.0 exclusively with a gamepad. Ever since ARR Alpha I've used mouse/keyboard. Probably because I've spent so much time playing other MMOs since FFXIV 1.0.
However, I fully intend to adapt to gamepad again, as I plan to play on both PC and PS3 and there is something very relaxing about kicking back in my recliner or on my bed to enjoy an MMO.
I use a controller. Beat the last boss in 1.0 with a controller.
I use controller with the KB on backup set with macros on my ps3 that way i have easy way to heal 24 man/girl raids an FATEs
I prefer controller myself, although I use keyboard/mouse once in a while. I find that using up/down on the dpad to select party members is very quick and I can hit a larger set of abilities quickly with the controller than I can on the keyboard. I do however find the mouse very handy for targeting in large group events such as FATE.
Controller.
Because the X-bar and party layouts make it super easy! :)
