Need advice on a new TV

I’m about to buy a 39-42” LED

I don’t want a smart TV or 3D, just an LED 39-42”.

Found so far:
1- LG 39" 39LN5420 Full HD TV.
2- Samsung 40 Inch Full HD LED TV UA40F5000.

The main use will be to play FFXIV, but I will also use it as my main PC screen, and I also have 19” Samsung, but don’t like playing on it.
What do you think guys, help me out here.

I use a Sony Bravia 40" or 42" TV for my PC. Its great for all I do watch HD movies and I only play my games at 1080P anyway.

I've used a 2nd generation Samsung LED TV (55") for about three years now. Pretty happy with it, but it isn't perfect. The LED matrix is kinda weird, so you see these dim white circles on the screen when it's totally black.

The thing is, the only way you're gonna find a good TV is to go to a brick-and-mortar store and look through them yourself. Everyone's eyes are different.

Samsung all the way. About 2 years ago I bought a 55" Samsung after extensive online research and store shopping. One word of advice though. If you are going to buy a TV around this time of year, you should really hold out for a black friday sale in a few months. It's a pretty significant savings. Otherwise, the best time for a good deal is in early May when all the companies generally release new models and last year's models go on super sale as places try to clear out stock. Either way, the prices on 50"+ screens have come WAY down, and there's a ton of good deals out there now. The biggest price jump you will see is the difference in screen refresh rates. Most have 120htz but there's some 240htz ones out there now (I think) but honestly any 120htz screen is going to be more than fine.

Sony Bravia are best by far I had Samsung,Panasonic and sharp and my Bravia is older than the rest and has the most perfect picture I have seen.

Also, if you're looking to save a few bucks, Vizio makes decent TVs, and they're generally less expensive than other major brands.

Whatever brand/model you choose, at least make sure it's 120Hz. It will manipulate the frame rate to seem much smoother than it is.

My Visio 42" has never failed me, but I'm upgrading to WQHD.

I have the same issue I have a LG Oled C1 and have the same dim white circles on the screen did you find a solution to the problem?

Depends what exactly your looking for and whats important to you.

if your going to connect it to a pc does it have a proper PC mode (strips away all image processing) to reduce input latency / response time / flickering and visual effects on screen which if its going to be a primary display would be more important. Does it support full RGB or only limited range. this can cause color accuracy issues when displayng an image on a tv. which can also connect to Chroma sub sampling. many tvs are typically 4:2:2 but if your using it as an actual pc monitor you may want one that supports 4:4:4 if you want the best viewing experience.

Of the 2 you listed i would lean towards the samsung. though only because i have a samsung F series myself and know they have a solid (if somewhat hidden) pc monitor mode when used with a specific HDMI input. (on mine its hdmi 3)

on the whole though theres generally a reason people dont use tvs as monitors, they're a pita.
