Howdy forum,
To ease everyone's FFXIV withdrawals symptoms, let's do some fun together with the Character Creation Benchmark program. Each day we will have a central topic that everyone can make one character to join the contest. We will have one day period to gather submissions, and one whole day for community to vote the previous submission while having next day's topic. The winner... wins... Sometimes, there will be digital prize that we can offer.
Here is how I'll try to organize it to maximize community's fun...
#1 post (this one) will be Today's Topic, special Rules/requirements, the Prize for this contest
#2-3 post will be previous submissions... I'll try to link every submission to the place so people can hit like. We'll collect "like" in next day and see who won.
#4 post will be winner submission for previous daily contest.

A little princess to an independent strong women
1.0 Kinoko Ramen is always a little princess Lalafell that been protected by Hela, Pop, Fink, and Deli (look around). She didn't need to worry about anything but being cute every day. Until she witness THE 11/11... The horrible battle field situation that made her swear to the Twelves that she needed to be stronger and started to protect everyone else. Now, look at her, all grown and stronger now... However, that deep scare from 5 years ago still bury deep inside her heart. The eyes with tiny sorrow just can't be hide by her stronger look...

Hiir reached up and lightly touched the bandages wrapped tightly about her eyes. It had been nearly two weeks of infernal itching but the discomfort and pain were finally gone.
Footsteps approached. "Now, let's see how you've healed up. Hold still now or you might lose some hair."
Snip, snip, snip. The bandages began to fall away into her lap. "Open your eyes slowly. It's still dark out, but I needed some candles to see."
"It's okay, I'm a Dunesfolk."
"Ah of course!"
She looked over at him. "How is it?"
"Just as you requested," the lalafell thaumaturge said with a frown. "I still don't agree with marring such a beautiful face."
Hiir picked up a small handmirror and looked at herself. She smiled. "Excellent work. Don't feel bad. It's not a scar. Not where I come from."
"And just where do you come from?"
"Everywhere and Nowhere. A dynasty of adventurer's if you will..."
"The No Tribe."
"It's a fitting title, don't you think?"
"Are you sure about this? If you actually are setting yourself to rebuilding the moving city of ..."
"SHHHH..." She dug into her pockets. "Here is the payment you requested, plus more for your silence."

We'll begin this tale with Ferodatz.
Ferodatz was not wont to meddle with the affairs of others. Preferring his seclusion. Practicing the magics he had studied since his youth. Had anyone been around to see his prowess, he would have been a master in their eyes. However to him, there was so much more to learn. A never ending amount of curiosities to revel in. Impossibilities to discover, for he believed nothing was impossible with hard work.
Haha, there was no better a place for such a man to live than the Twelveswood. It was there that he resided, alone with naught but his trusty stick and the denizens of the forest.
Upon one of his expenditures into the Twevlsewood he came upon the aftermath of a battle. "Ixal." he sighed. He had seen them many times in his years, but recently in particular had they begun invading his woodland home more and more. Bandits maybe? Also something he was no stranger too, though infrequent visits they were. No sane man other than himself would venture this deep into the Wood without a very good reason. Regardless, the lost do not survive long in the Twelveswood. "Now to carry the poor bastards" He sighed again, beginning to bury the men. The old man magicked graves below a nearby grove of trees. They would be sufficient for these men.
Having completed his task the old man began his trek to his woodland home. Yet, something caught his eye in the bushes.
Upon brushing as the bush to the side he realized what he'd seen. Another of the dead bandits. A Miqout'e girl, with vivid green hair. The lass had an arrow in her back. She had tried to run, to no avail. Only capable of crawling into the bushes at the base of a tree.
Picking the girl up was only made harder by her being curled into the trees roots. He removed her carefully as he could. The old man realized she had been holding onto something, grasping it desperately. Sure enough, just inside those roots he felt something. "A sack maybe?" He thought to himself as he pulled it out. "It" no "Her" was more appropriate, a child now sat in his arms. The Miqou'te had been protecting her child.
The old man couldn't quite understand what had just happened. He pulled a child out of a tree. That doesn't happen every day. What was he to do? He looked at the now dead mother, and he sighed once again. "I'm to old for this"
The old man buried the dead mother. Taking the child, he went on his way, back to his home once again.
Arriving with child in hand he was no better prepared than he had been back with the dead bandits, if they had even been bandits. He wasn't sure anymore. Regardless, he had to figure out what to do? Should he venture to Gridania on the other side of the forest? Would they even welcome a random child. He just didn't know. The Gridanians aren't always privy to welcome outsiders. He knew first hand from his training at the Conjurers guild many years ago. But what other choice was there? He could never take care of the girl himself, could he?
No. no no no no no. Such thoughts were impossible. Impossible. He stopped. Realizing how petty he was being. "I have lived my life defying every impossibility I have ever found, why should this be any different." Now he was adamant, he would raise the girl.
Ah, but what to call her. "Zerosion" Something that should not exist, but does.
"A fitting name." He smiled.
And so time goes on. 17 years past.
Zerosion was a calculated girl, despite this her outbursts of energy defied her calm demeanor. She could never quite sit still, much to her foster fathers dismal. Ferodatz had taught her Alchemy, and Carpentry among other things. Well to the extent her attention would allow. But never magic "Your too young" he had said for many years, only to have her do chores instead. Zerosion had grasped the basics of magic just watching her fathers work, but could not actually cast any spells. She occupied most of her time playing with potions and but generally just making a mess.
Ferodatz felt his age. Simply ordering his daughter around was tiring him out. Not enough for her to notice, but enough to worry himself. He was old, and he knew it. No amount of mastery of magic could stop the sands of time. At least no magic he knew, or would even want to touch. He did not have much longer.
"It's time" he muttered to himself, picking up his cane, he walked from his room to his lab. It was only next door. Ferodatz's home was simple, built into the side of a hill, and part of an elder tree.
"Zerosion, come here" The girl was fooling around with some potions. "Your going to blow yourself up one day" he said with a smile. *Hey, i'm not that bad!" throwing a mushroom at the old man. The old man laughed. "Right"
"What do you want?" she asked. "It's time I taught you a little of what I know of magic" The girls ears perked. "Your serious?" a smile forming. "Yes"
And so they began. First with simple Conjury. A simple stone spell, the old mans favorite. And a simple healing spell, and finishing off with a wind spell. The girl learned fast, her years of watching had already given her the gist of everything. It was simply connecting the pieces of a puzzle for her.
"I do believe this is a good point for a change of pace" the old man said. "What do you have in mind father?"
"I'll teach you a little Thaumaturgy now" The old man knew she would need the knowledge of both in the coming days. Conjury was a wonderful magic. Commanding the wind around you, lifting the boulders that you walk upon, and controlling the flow of water were very liberating. But, they lack a certain "power". Not necessarily in strength, but in..malice. Thaumaturgy was about death, not life as is with Conjury. To send lighting, fire, and ice at your foes is to wish them death. You can do this with Conjury, but it is not its purpose.
The old man knew he would die soon, and Zerosion would be alone to fight her way through her life. The forest was changing, he could feel it. The Elementals grew restless, and the he felt the presence of Ixal getting closer and closer. The power of Thaumaturge will only help his daughter stay alive.
"Ok" she said, none the wiser that it would not be long before her life changed dramatically.
A few days past in relative peace, they did their work, practiced some new spells. Fire, Thunder, Blizzard.
"It's time we called it a night Zerosion" the old man said, out of breath. "We've only cast a few spells" Zerosion complained. "I am tired" Ferodatz chuckled.
And he fell.
"Father!" Zerosion exclaimed. "I'm fine, help me up" said the old man. Zerosion lifted the frail man with ease. Helping him to his bed. "Whats going on Father?" "I'm old child, i'm old" "But-" "Enough" the old man sighed. "Everyone's time comes."
"Go to Gridania and seek out the Conjurers guild. You will learn much there." "But I want to learn from you" the girl cried. "And I wish I could teach you so much more, but my time is up *cough* "
"Listen closely. Everything is changing I know. Things, powerful things are threatening the balance of nature itself. The Ixal are coming closer, and the Elementals are blinding themselves in fear. You must go to Gridania, this place will not be safe for much longer. I could only keep the forest at bay for so long. When I pass, the barriers keeping are home safe will fall. You cannot stay here."
The girl was in shock. She could not speak. "Now go and pack your things. We will leave for Gridania tomorrow."
Everything swam, her mind, her vision. "i'm going to throw up" she thought walking out of her fathers room. She sat down by the fire in their living room. Staring at the flame.
Before she knew it, she'd fallen asleep on the floor.
Zerosion woke to a screech. "What was-" *Crack* the door across the room splintered. An axe poking through. "Ixali. Father!" she screamed. Running to his room.
Ferodatz had passed in the night. And the Ixali had walked through the now barrier-less area. "Father" she exclaimed over his lifeless body. *Crack! Crack!*
"Urgh!" She screamed clenching her fists. Anger boiled in her. She grabbed her Father's cane and went to face her foes.
She did not wait for them to break through the doors. She called upon fire, as much as she could. The fireplaces embers roared to life. Flailing outwards. She called to do directing it here and focusing it. She blasted through the door with the fire. Blowing the door to pieces, and the Ixal behind it out into the forest.
All was not calm though, a second Ixal burst into her home. She was ready, already conjuring her next spell. part of her homes stone floor lifted into the air and she sent them propelling into the birdman, knocking it out.
It was over.
Tired and shaken, she lay on floor to rest. She began gathering supplies shortly after.
She left her home, stopping only to pass the grave she had hastily made for her father. She hadn't the time for anything extravagant.
And so she begun her journey to Gridania.-
From here this leads into the Gridanian opening. I do believe you know the rest of the story leading up into the present ;)

Short Bio: Ne'er a day goes by that a lost soul finds its way back to the Aether without paying the ferryman. For those who cannot pay, they wander the world endlessly, their anger and frustration causing them to commit terrible acts. He is the tool of The Spinner, the scythe that cuts the rotten wheat of the world. Be wary of Nymeia's wrath, for her soldier hath no mercy.
Autumn, (like the lives of those unfortunate and unlucky), is dying. A cold darkness is creeping through the cracks of reality. A war rages on around Eorzea and soon it will be on her doorstep. The Gods and Goddess' have sworn not to meddle with their children and yet they yearn to aid in any way they can. A set of simple commands resound throughout Hydaelyn. (Feel)...(Think)...(Teach)...(Hear)...(Speak) A resounding cry reverberates backwards through space and time and their soldiers rise up to meet the challenge.
He stands alone on a dusty road. The air is acrid and once more he hears her words. (Tell)...(Hope)...(Wish)...(Roam) So he wanders until he is beset upon by minions of the dark. They are no more a threat than the creatures that speckle the landscape. He reaches the City-State of Ul'dah, where his true journey begins.
Several years have passed and though many times since he first started; he has laid down his sword and spear with no hope of ever being able to complete his task. This time, he is different. He does not stand alone against the shadows. Though they are not blood-kin, they share the same goal. To irradiate the threat to Eorzea and to all of Hydaelyn.
With the death of Nael Van Deus Darnus, his goal is finally complete, at last he may rest his head upon his maker's lap. Yet something ominous has awoken in the wake of war. The vessel charges headlong into combat and like the rest, is destroyed by the dragon's unrelenting attacks. So a new vessel must be found, and in five years, he will be ready to fight once more.
Aftermath: Five years have passed since the awakening of Bahamut and the death of so many innocent souls. He has been sent once more to the world of Eorzea. This time however, he is inside of a lithe agile creature that still feels the pain and anguish of what was lost. Where once was pain, now is rage and anguish turns to determination. He has sworn an oath to his vessel. Whomever is responsible for this travesty will know his name. That name is Rubieus Amrita, the Void Knight of Nymeia.

this is Keith Dragoon, abandoned as a kitten in the Twelveswood who survived by stealing from unsuspecting travelers and hunting. Many residents of Gridania thought he was a wildling and avoided him as to not incur the greenwrath. He picked up Conjury from watching passing Conjurers as they did their duties. Although very rough and untamed, his skills in Conjury were very strong and in turn his relationship with the elementals was formed. Through this relationship his existence was recognized by E-Sumi-Yan of the Conjurer's guild who took Keith in as his apprentice. When asked his name he muttered "Keith Dragoon", which he picked himself from a combination of the first name of a traveling merchant's grandson who he played with as he followed them through the forest and the title of a passing envoy of Ishgardian soldiers who gave him some of their rations before setting off for their city-state.
Keith grew up never really warming up to the others in the guild. He only acknowledged Brother E-Sumi and O-App-Pesi. Due to his past and the way he pushed everyone away they still refer to him as Nahele(Forest). Despite his actions and blatant lack of trust the one thing Keith longs for most is a place where he feels he belongs and people he can trust enough to call them a family.

Started off being a NPC at the lancers guild during the five years she got sick of waiting for pants to go with the uniform and decided to become an adventurer on the noble quest to find Pants so she took off her mask and picked up her claws to throw away her past as an lancer and become a Monk.

Orphaned at the tender age of 6 Nique went to live with her Nuhn Uncle (on her father's side) and her many female cousins in their Sun seeker tribe, they moved around a lot usually living on the Seaside or in the forests of Gridania. Though she got on very well with her family, she was always an independent soul and when she came of age, moved to Gridania permanently under the Conjurers guild. Because of her close relationship with her cousins, she can be a little naive of personal boundaries (esp. to females).
Likes: Sweets, Tea, Rain, Seafood, Helping others.
Dislikes: Cruelty, Bitter or spiced foods.

Bio:
C'rysta Zeith grew up at "Nana"'s orphanage in Gridania where the caretaker and all the children called her "Caitlyn Aldora". While shy and quiet at first, the children loved to play with her. Old Nana and her orphans where all she had, which basically made them as close to a family as one could ever be.
It didn't take long for people to notice that Caitlyn had a passion for music. You can ask anyone in Gridania and all they would say that Caitlyn came to Mih Khetto's Amphitheatre to listen to the musicians playing their finest songs.
By the time Caitlyn turned 10, she would even accompany them on stage. Singing songs and playing the lute. Although every one loved her music, she didn't pursue a career as a musician. Just playing music at the Amphitheatre or the Carline Canopy and seeing a smile on people's faces was all she could ever wish for.
Never the less, time passed by and Caitlyn and her "family" grew up into adulthood. The children at the orphanage turned into fine men and women who started to itch for adventure. See more of the world we call Hydaelyn. Everyone went their own way and so did Caitlyn. Her adventures brought her to the big cities like Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa where she would meet fellow adventurers. Eventually, she formed a guild through the use of a Linkshell, which would later be known as The Dragon's Aery.
They faced hardship and excitement together, but then came the Garlean Empire. With all their might, they challenged Nael van Darnus, who guided Dalamud towards Hydaelyn and eventually had it fall upon Eorzea. Many have fallen during the battle of Cartenau, as did many of Caitlyn's friends and fellow adventurers.
After the calamity... Searching for survivors, friends, family, anyone who beared witness to the events that occured 5 years ago, she collapsed and taking in by a man who ran a clinic on the outskirts of Bentbranch with his wife. During and after her recovery, Caitlyn would help out in the clinic. May it be with sharing knowledge or stories about her adventures, by giving medical assistance, or purely for entertaining purposes.
It was but recently that Caitlyn found out that her mother was alive and that her birth name was C'rysta Zeith. After hearing about her origins from her birth mother, both she and her mother went on an adventure in search of her father.
Likes: Entertaining people with stories and music, cooking (especially making apple pies for the children), helping other and protecting them from harm
Dislikes: Greed, Cruelty, the threat of an invasion from the Garlean Empire

Born as Merune Verger from in a family of itinerant merchants. In her early years she happily lives with her parents, traveling between Gridania and Thanalan. When she was eight, the Ixal ambushed her caravan. It was a carnage, and she barely survive because while she was run away from the beastmen a marauder hyur engage the Ixal and kill it.
The same hyur adopted her and give her a new name.
Until the 1572 she lived as Meru Aradan, daughter of Valan Aradan, in Limsa Lominsa, but everything was destroyed by Dalamud.
In the catastrophe Valan was mortally woundend and as last act he allow to teleport her daughter by Luoisoix's spell in his place.
Because Meru wasn't the true target of the spell she experienced some side effect, like a grown body, and some changes in her behaviour (she is 11 years old).
Likes: cakes and sweet food. fishing, reading, pull the tail of a friend of Valan.
Dislikes: spicy food and bitter food. Scary stories. the empire, bahamut, the amnesia of the NPG.

Bio (short version): Raised in Ul'dah, grew up with her father often taking her to see the Bloodsands matches. On the short side for highlanders, she really strives to prove she can be just as tough as taller gals, and on par with the men too, without having to sacrifice on beauty. She really admires technology and industry and knowledge in general, and as much as she wants to lay the beat down on Garlemald, would love to get a hand on some magitek and tinker with it. Taboo doesn't keep her from wanting to learn of any darker arts. Very much an opportunist, she's also not afraid to flaunt her assets to gain an advantage (growing up in Ul'dah will do that to you :P).

When Aluena Mahri was young she was exiled in disgrace from her family and she became a poacher at the edge of The Twelveswood. She was eventually caught by an Old Hyur woman named Mary who took her in and, despite Aluena's hostility and arrogance, did her best to teach and raise her. Aluena eventually grew to respect Mary who was always patient and kind with her. Several years after Aluena was saved Mary passed away. Devistated by her loss Aluena forsake the name of the family who abandoned her and took Mary's name as a final respect to her caretaker and teacher. After some time Aluena registered to the Adventurer's Guild and began travelling. In her travels she discovered her strong passion for magic. Generally a very unsociable person Aluena rarely speaks her mind, still holding her memories of her old family's harshness towards her.

Dislikes: Causing others pain, talking about her past, and greedy or materialistic people

No one knows what Tyger's life was like before the fateful day she first came to Gridania and was chased by a treant, why she has a Keeper of the Moon name, or why she would come to Eorzea looking for snow. Even bribing her with fish or ice cream will only get you an admission that she had always wanted to learn the art of Conjurery along with mutterings of a time when she could also call on fire, ice, and lightning. A great lover of winter, Tyger is on a quest to find a place where there is snow all year round. Her quest was a failure five years ago, but surely with the great changes wrought by the Calamity her wish will finally come true. She secretly wishes Oha-Sok had given her a Healer's Parka, but grudgingly admits that the robe is better suited for most Eorzean climes.
Likes: snow, fish, ice cream, snow, conjurery, Hildebrand (before he broke into her room), snow, Gridania, and Moogles.
oh, yeah and snow.
Dislikes: hot weather, naked Roegadyn, Ifrit, Bahamut, fire elementals, invading imperials, and brussel sprouts.

Took part in the battle of Cartenau 5 years ago. Dalamud was bombarded with radiation while it was orbiting Hydaelyn. Hydaelyn could filter out the radiation from the sun using it's atmosphere, so the races didn't get affected by it. However, when Dalamud fell, it was coated with this radiation. When it broke into the atmosphere, it was too much for the Hydaelyn to handle. While most of the radiation was filtered off of Dalamud while it fell, it was still at a dangerous level.
Ok so, Bahamut appeared blah blah blah. When he destroyed Dalamud, he spread out all the radiation on Dalamud on the pieces that went flying. While some characters weren't affected too badly by the radiation, some were. In Lu's case, he absorbed quite a bit of the radiation before entering crystal stasis.
The radiation rewrote his DNA. The new DNA was very similar to the Miqo DNA. He grew a tail, furry ears, and developed Heterochromia, all traits of Miqos. He didn't change his name to affect this new race, because to him, he was still a Lalafell.
Likes: Spaghetti, Pulling Miqo tails (a trait he kept from being a lalafell), Other Sun kitties, Minfilia, chocobos

Born into a large Family of Seeker's of the Sun. Rouge a very curious Miqo'te, always admiring all the passerbys and the extravagant clothes they draped their bodies in. At the age of maturity she left the tribe to become an adventurer. Thus the life of perils, hardship, excitement, and COOL clothes began! She has a bad habit of changing classes just because her mood says I wanna be a MNK today, or no I am BLM now!
Like: sweets, dark chocolate, milk, admiring cool clothes, being a jack-of-all-trades and being good at almost all of the classes.
Dislikes: too sweet sweets, being ignored, yarn, not being told what roll she'll be going as till the whole party is formed.

An Uninspired Youth
Hulan Temet was not born under an auspicious sign, nor was he born to wealth nor poverty. Some beginning are not so grand nor noble. Hulan's story began in a moderately wealthy household of craftsmen and women on the Shores of Costa Del Sol. Each day, he was greated by glorious weather, beautiful seas, and all of the crab meat you could desire. In short, he was bored. Bordom being as powerful a motivation as it is uninspiring, Hulan left the paradise as he grew into maturity.
A Merchant's Trade
Hulan's travels quickly ran aground in grand Limsa Lominsa. By plying the trade of his forfathers, he easily found an apprenticeship at Naldiq and Vymelli's as an Armorer. His work took him all around Erozea, exposing the young craftsman to cultures and peoples he had hardly dreamed of in has beautiful prison. Soon, though, what one man could do by labor of hammer and plier was too little to keep up with the needs of his masters at the Guild. Hulan was forced to pick up the sword. This idea of swinging a sword after years at the smith not being particularly appealing; he chose to learn from the Arcanists in Mealvaan's Gate to gain the martial skills he would need.
Once again, his view was proven to be narrow. With tome in hand, he saw a world overrun with monsters; threatened by extra-national forces; and the very Aether disrupted by beastmen Primals. Determined to use his skills for a purpose, he approached the only group that would take a wanderer such as himself: the Maelstrom.
Til' Sea Swallows All
The months spent in the Maelstrom where some of the most rewarding in Hulan's life. Providing the army with supplies by day, storming Imperial positions by night; Hulan worked tirelessly.
It was only a short time later that it became apparent that the VIIth Legeon was preparing for something vicious. Joining his fellow Adventurers from the Maelstrom and elsewhere, Hulan marched towards the final confrontation with van Darnus and Meteor. When Bahamut burst from his shell and rained fire down on the land, Hulan could only think of his brief time in the Maelstrom, and how prophetic it had turned out to be: As a sea of fire swallowed all, the world went white, and the rest, that is a tale yet to be written.

My fingers tingle as life surges through them and consciousness returns to me.
My eyes open barely as I squint against the sunlight.
Eor. . .zea. . .?
A man calls off in the distance, "Mathewelin, I'm glad you could make it, girl!"
Do I?. . . Is tha- . . . Ayasha?
A smile overtook his face. A smile that was only outdone by his robust laugh. "Well who'd ya' think it was? Bahamut?" His palm smacked my back fiercely. "Come on now, you're the last one to return. Everyone's waiting."
A slight chuckle escaped my mouth. Everyone's waiting, huh? The sun was starting to set. I'm just glad we all made it. I grabbed my Giantsgall Longsword and made my way towards Ayasha. A crowd of familiar faces shouting and jumping welcomed me into their arms.
I'm just glad. . . we met again.

Prologue
I'd like to tell you a story, a story about how I came into being. It's not a particularly nice story, but it needs to be told nonetheless. It is expected of me.
It all began five years ago...
Part One - The End
"Confound it! We' ve lost contact with the main host!"
The anguished message crackled over the Eorzean Alliance linkpearl and went silent as Mjollnir faced off against three Imperial soldiers. He swung his axe around and roared a challenge. “Garlean snots, I'm here to axe you a question!” The shifting purple haze of Mor Dhona gave their armour an unreal tinge, but Mjollnir knew that, beneath the masks, they were just men. And had he not confronted the madman Van Darnus himself, high on Rivenroad, just earlier that month, and prevailed? Men were nothing to him.
Before he could engage the Imperial trio, a giant Roegadyn, all muscle and darksteel, thundered past him knocking him to the ground. “Bugger it,” he fumed. Other adventurers, furious pieces of this now-dishevelled vanguard, charged in - shining weaponry dancing around, about, and through their enemies. Mjollnir flipped to his feet, readjusted his helm and hefted the huge axe he'd bought recently from one of the multitude of traders in the Market Ward. The Market Wards reminded him of this battle, out here in Mor Dhona - all legs and shouting and no room to manoeuvre.
Before he could join the fray, the Imperials were down, crushed by ancient relics and primal-spawned trophies, wielded by Eorzea's strongest and brightest. The tumult raged onward and Mjollnir sought to follow, but instead tripped on the severed head of a bearded Imperial, no longer with that maddened glint in his eye. Mjol hit the floor in a half-roll and ended up on his back next to the corpse of a red-haired Miqo'te. At least he assumed she had been red-haired - it was hard to tell, what with all the blood.
"By Nald's left testicle!" he exclaimed, a little too loudly. There was no response from his linkshell.
Only half an hour ago he had been sat with his companions by the lake at Camp Brittlebark, anticipating the glory that would soon be theirs. Tenatzen, Skeezix, Eldak, Seth, Autumn, Ema, Neliya, the one they call 'Butterballs'... They had been separated at the start of the battle - Mjol could only assume now that they were dead. Likewise, the legends that had gathered around the central campfire; Rokien, Gath, Junpei, Kira, and all of the lesser-known, but equally brave (or equally stupid) folk, standing against this incursion of Darnus' darkest darkness.
Mjol sighed and stood up, resolved to fight until the end, if the chance were offered. The purple mist, suffused with arcane cracklesparks and smoke from wrecked war machines, shrouded everything around him. Then, one by one, adventurers came flying out of the mist, each making their own particular death-call as they passed by, over Mjol's head. An Elezen, long neck twisted at a quite uncomfortable angle, crashed to the ground a yalm away with a bellow; his ornate armour bending, breaking and digging ruts out of the hard earth. Then came the determined Roegadyn, his upper body and left arm crashing down by Mjol's axe; the rest of him tumbling to the ground like a wet sack, a thoroughly inconsiderate distance away.
Now through the smoke came a Magitek monstrosity, a Garlean defilement of nature twenty feet high, its twisting and turning motors drowning out nearby sound, its limbs adorned with guts and gore gifted by the Eorzean Alliance. Mjol smiled; it was his turn.
Diving beneath the mechanized maelstrom of whirling drills and blades, Mjol positioned himself behind his opponent. He caught sight, briefly, of a mage in black on a nearby hill and was sure the wizard had seen him. If he could get the steel sentinel to focus its attacks on himself, he hoped the spellcaster would send aid in the form of unholy bolts of power from afar. Mjollnir began his work.
After a few minutes though, there had been no help forthcoming. "Bloody sorcerors!" cried Mjol. The metal machine hit hard, but hit rarely, and Mjol could take those hits and recover, given time. However, he was doing very little to slow the capricious construct that he was facing and so spat another curse to Thaumaturges into the mud at his feet while he considered his options.
Fortune smiled and he didn't have to consider for long; a rain of eldritch arrows careened with mystical accuracy into the bipedal beast. The impacts continued relentlessly until the ensanguined engine crumpled and seized, lifeless as the land around it. Mjol looked about for his saviour and comrade-in-arms, but he could see nothing through the haze. He could only hear the sounds of heavily armoured warriors running about the battlefield, punctuated with the screams and moans of the dying.
Clambering up the ruined Magitek he had recently fought, Mjol had a better position to view the area around him. The visor on his headpiece had jammed again, so he tore the horned helmet from his head and tossed it upon the ground. The fog and smoke were low-lying, so he could see reasonably far from this higher vantage point; however, it seemed there was little to see. The battle here was over – in the distance, a column of Imperial war machines marched southward to Carteneau Flats where the soldiers of the Grand Companies awaited them; the last line of defence between the crazed invaders and civilised lands. Above that wretched place loomed the sick moon Dalamud, warped and corrupted by Imperial machinations, unguided and rampant, sure to unleash some magical aether-storm on all and sundry, palpably crackling with evil energies.
He was alone. All around lay adventurers; no White Mage nor Conjurer to revive them, no aetheryte crystal to reconstitute them. Blood, bone, and muscle twisted in unnatural ways by unnatural forces. Weapons with no-one to wield them lay discarded and unused. Armour protected body parts which no longer served a purpose. Mjol looked down at his own legs, which had remained intact despite the Imperials' best efforts. The distance to Carteneau was long, and his legs were short but, as Kan-E-Senna had probably said to him, “It is your destiny.” Destiny to turn up late and miss the most important battle Eorzea was to see this age, Mjol thought miserably. He began his relentless jog to the South when, all of a sudden, Dalamud opened.
Interlude
Dreams..? A dragon, and a creature spawned from the darkness, deep beneath the earth. Faceless allies battling with him down there. Then the wind, on chocoboback. A sunny, shining landscape, like the Gridania he knew, yet so unlike it. Fierce creatures. Battle joined. Joy in combat and friendship. Then back, beneath the earth. The dragon. The dream cycled endlessly.
Part Two - Reborn
Hear... Feel... Think...
Mjollnir opened his eyes, blinded by the light of the crystal, floating in darkness as he seemed also to be.
Was he awake?
Hear... Feel... Th...
“What the absolute fuck?” interrupted Mjol.
Warrior of the Light, it is time for your journey to continue... I am Hydaelyn, the Mothercrystal.
Mjollnir floated in the nothing, mouth agape, as figures rushed past him, leaving glittering trails that contrasted sharply with the boundless black.
But I sense a disquiet within you...
“Everyone I know is dead, I've been stuck in a repeating nightmare for what seems like an endless amount of time, I'm talking to a rock, and there are Lalafell and Roegadyn floating, no.. zooming past me as if they were Sylphs who had eaten too many bubble chocolates. Disquiet is very much all about me!”
Within your soul... It is conflicted... I sense... A Warrior's heart... But frustration... Your heritage impairs your potential...
“What in the seven hells are you saying, you crazy piece of compressed crud? Do you mean that us Lalafell aren't wilful enough to be warriors? Aren't mighty enough to maraud? Aren't prepared enough to.. to.. pugile??”
It is not that... It is you... If you are to find your destiny, you must leave that part of you behind...
“Leave the Lalafell part of me behind? But that's all of me! Listen, I understand you've probably got a lot to do, but I'm having a really bad day and I'd appreciate it if you could just... leave me be..?”
It is not all of you... Leave it... Come into the light... The Warrior's heart... Become a Warrior of the Light...
Deep down, Mjol knew this voice, that Echoed round inside his head, was right. For too long he had been underestimated by the folk of Eorzea. They had presumed that, due to his stature and his jolly anecdotes, he was not worthy of the tasks that others could overcome on the front line of battle. He had never been asked along to raid the Aurum Vale, had never faced Good King Moggle Mog XII in combat; never challenged Ifrit or Garuda to prove his prowess. He had never been worthy to quest for the legendary Bravura.
He floated forward into the light...
… and straight through the crystal! Turning in mid-nothingness, shocked, he faced Hydaelyn, which now seemed a lot smaller. Confused, he looked down. What he saw was unfamiliar, and yet so familiar. His frame, that of a Hellsguard, reflected his spirit, his might. The light-hearted jibes, the cheeky quips had no place here. Indeed, what was that meek creature that he could see through the crystal, curled up from whence he had came?
The Lalafell part of you... This is Totomojo... I will send him to a place where he will be safe, to live among the Moogles...
Mjollnir looked again at the tiny, orange-haired creature, who was snoring softly, head resting on its arms resting on.. nothing. He would not miss what he was leaving here today. The weakness, the distraction from combat. He turned and faced the light, to embrace his destiny, and on a trail of Sylph sparkles he was gone – to walk the lands of Eorzea anew. Without getting lost in the grass.
Totomojo yawned and rolled over. Something akin to a chuckle, if an oversized gemstone could chuckle, was heard in the near vicinity. Then Totomojo disappeared with a soft 'pop', wholly unaware of his origins, to live a life far, far away from the entities who had made him, were part of him.
Epilogue
And that is how I was born. In shadow I remained, as Hydaelyn fawned over her newest “Warriors of the Light”. Those creatures, with their foolish mannerisms, their flawed personalities, their inability to see the implications of what had just occurred, were the chaff to be cast off. Not I. I am the part of them that is intelligence, wisdom, practicality, and a healthy dose of realism.
Born of the crystal, yet not of the crystal.
I retreated far from that glaring light, deep into the dark void – for Void is what it is - until I came across dwellers in that nightscape who bade me return to Eorzea and walk as one of these “Warriors”. I am among you now, yet you do not know my name. My time will come, and the ground of Aldenard will run red with your lifebloods once more.
Ahahahaha. Ahahahahaha. Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! Hah.

That was when he was 7 years old. Despite the best efforts of the Arzanaeth Ossuary, he got carted from the family home in Ul'dah to his uncle's place in Gridania (thank Menphina). After growing up and earning enough cash, he managed to buy his way back to Ul'dah where his memories resided to try and pick up the threads of his childhood. That's where the fun really began.
Geomancy is a tricky art. Most of its secrets are jealously protected by the Goblins and Kobolds, but that just makes cracking it open more fun.
An intimate familiarity with the land is essential to learning Geomancy, but we're talking one that is just as scientific as it is religious. Being an adventurer with Thaumaturgical parentage and Conjurers in his upbringing, Thal was well placed to study the land at the bequest of Milvaneth Sacrarium. This task gives him a surprisingly large amount of freedom, allowing him to explore various disciplines as he sees fit - in fact his employers expect it in the interests of exploring alternative means to trace aether through the land, as they encourage his affiliation to the Order of the Twin Adder.
As for why they want someone like Thal to unlock Geomancy? That's a little less clear...
Oddly enough, the calamity may have erased people's memory of his deeds in the months before the battle of Carteneuax, but not of his contractual obligations.
Likes: Rare and odd rocks and gemstones, aetherial insights, the occasional Tia in need of some "stress relief".
Dislikes: Lalafellian Lentils, pesky moles, women looking for a date.

Once a Midland Hyur but suffered a hiccup while being transported to the future by Louisoux, Niccolo starts THE REALM REBORN journey anew.
His surname was changed because he was "adopted" by a family when he was found unconscious in the Thanalan desert. He willingly accepted this surname as a token of respect to the father of the family. They had a son who was weak and ill and passed away before the calamity. The father saw Niccolo as a son, albeit for a brief period of time, but has done enough for the family to be considered as one.
The surname Tornincasa is generally given to a boy born after the death of a previous one, considering this was fitting for Niccolo because of the family's previous son's death. Note: I also wanted to keep the memory of Nicco. I was really close to changing the name entirely, but Nicco has stuck with me and I feel that I should keep it in good faith. Tornincasa also means "come back home," and because technically the old Niccolo is "dead," I felt the name Niccolo Tornincasa was perfect.
Since all 1.0 characters are considered the Warriors of Light, I wanted to reflect this by brightening the eye color. Old Nicco had light eyes too, but were closer to gray, so I went three shades brighter. In essence, it's like the "light of the crystal blah blah" shines within him. *SHINE BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND*
I tried very hard to basically make the manqo'te version of Nicco and make him identical to his previous Hyur version.
Other than looks, Nicco is a hard-headed, sarcastic dingus. Once he gets comfortable with you, expect him to mess with you from time to time. He's not always a dingus, though. He has a soft heart and will be there for you if you need help, whatever the means, he'll do whatever he can in the best of his abilities. (tsundere?)
He's also a bit of a ladies AND 'mens man. He believes love is universal and doesn't mind being with a man or a woman. He likes to flirt way too often for his own good, too.
