If van darnas is riding around in fuel spaceships...

then why are we running around on birds v:confused:. I am just curious, watching the latest gameplay trailers, if such technology exists in game for modern fuel injected spaceship jet like vehicles flying about, then why do we not have trains, cars, bikes, or a more modern approach to transportation.

It doesn't bother me at all, I love chocobo's, I am just slightly baffled as to how it all fits into the game atmosphere. I feel like FFXIV is set in ancient times of magic and dragons and old flying air balloons, so where do modern space ships fit in, and why is it only van darnus who seems to be keeping up with modern technology where as we just happy to ride chocobos and ride flying air balloons to get between cities?

We do, but the reality is that Eorzeans are only beginning to integrate this technology into their society.

Magitech technology made the overwhelming majority of its leaps and bounds inside the Garlean Empire and only within the last generation or so. What the Eorzeans have is knowledge smuggled out of Garlemald by the Garlond Ironworks and Ala Mhigan rebels.

Recent advances include small scale airships and the Nanawa mining locomotives. But for every advance Eorzea makes, Garlemald is three steps further ahead.

It is like comparing a developed country (USA, Australia, Germany) to a developing country (Bangladesh, Mongolia).

I assume for one that cerillium (sp?) is rare, and Eorzea is not up to speed technologically with Garlemald. Also chocobos are all terrain. It's like saying why does anyone in any country ever ride a horse when America has airplanes.

Also, Eorzea does have a train (there's a track). We just don't have compact personal vehicles yet. Plus a lot of the NPCs, like us players, have a fondness for chocobos as living creatures, and thus would opt for them even if other choices were available.

I hate those bleeding birds and their hyper-annoying, loud, always-on soundtrack.

Roll on personal Magitek armour.

There's an option now (Configuration -> Sound) for enabling and disabling Sound while riding a mount.

The Garleans carbon footprint is totally out of control

All magitek in Eorzea that wasn't built by Garlemald was designed by the Garlond Ironworks, and they can only build so much at a time. With so many chocobos (with which the economy is linked), I imagine the magitek mounts are low-priority for their team's R&D.

How many trains are running through Thanalan? At least one of the track systems belongs to the Empire and rolls right into their Thanalan castrum.

A little off topic, sorry for that, but is it just me or do especially Goobbue run slower than in 1.0? Or is it just their different kind of moving? I kind of prefer their old way of running :/

The three nations and probably Ishgard aren't really Magitek savvy. It took Cid defecting from the Garlean Empire to start introducing it's mechanical genius to Eorzea.

Soooo much slower. Ran a race with my lady. I was on my Goobbue and she was on the GC chocobo. She won by a malm.

Has anyone noticed that chocobo carriages don't have wheels? Instead, they hover over the ground with the help of what I guess is helium balloons. That same technology is on Eorzean airships. They have some giant hot air balloon looking thing hanging off one side of the ship.

Does Eorzea even have electricity yet? Are all the light posts torches? Now, I dunno if it's just because of the graphics engine, but all the light posts I've seen in Thanalan don't flicker like fire light does, which means that at least Ul'dah may use some form of electric lighting.

I'm wondering just how technologically advanced Eorzea is. Does it use oil for a power source? Maybe wind or solar power? I think I've seen some mechanical engines around, either in the mines, or maybe the airships have some kind of an engine for propulsion and it uses that hot air balloon thing to get altitude? hmmm, interesting...

It was already said in the old story that Cid was bringing the most technology to eorzea because he is from Garlemald.
And that's why the Garleans hunting Cid because he is a traitor in thier eyes.

Based on my memory from the botanist guild quests, Ul'dahn lighting is powered by Ceruleum oil.
The quest in question has you follow up on some research done by the alchemists on the use of local Gridanian oil as a fuel. The response you get is the aclemists' lack of enthusiasm along the lines of "why don't you just use Ceruleum?"

The answer of course being Gridania's desire to develop energy from renewable sources they can harvest rather than finite sources that are mined.

i think they get there fuel from burning xbox-one's.
