I remember playing Suicide Express on the commodore 64, one of the first cassette games to feature voice-recording, though it came out as "fshuishizzle exshcprizz".
I've got a case near my feet right now packed with at least 200 Commodore 64 games, never completed a single one of them either, back then games were HARD!

I remember spending a few days not long ago looking up all the 'true' classic games of ye' old consoleth and seeing whatever became of them.
A 3D Turrican was being developed for quite some time, entitled (would you believe...) Turrican 3D. It was scrapped when the company developing it had financial problems.
On the same wave a sequal was being created to Fade To Black (Sequal to Flashback) entitled Flashback Legends, but was cancelled when Delphine Software went bankrupt... now Conrad Hart will forever drift alone in space, and no one will ever find out what happened to him :(
Sadly over the course of video game development many characters have been long lost and forgotten to the sands of time (a bit like this thread was for a few months). It saddens me that the characters I loved so much in video games such as Ristar and Dynamite Headdy will never again grace T.V screens across the world except when people play their original incarnations. (Or re-releases in the case of Ristar... I still whistle the bonus level theme at random even though I haven't played it in years!) Only games that truly made an impact, such as Ecco The Dolphin, Panzer Dragoon and Toejam & Earl were given a second-chance at life on next-gen consoles, and due to the modern genre of 'violence makes the video game' they never succeeded in becoming as popular as they had once been.
This is probably why Sega have been holding back a new Streets Of Rage game, they don't want to ruin it's reputation for those of us that cherish the fond memories these games gave us :)
Luckily Final Fantasy games have managed to constantly grow and evolve with the sands of time, which is how we are able to play it's latest incarnation. Thankfully some things do survive :D

I feel bad to admit this but, I don't like 2d games. It's just a short thing though. Last year i spent 9 strait hours playing Atari 2600. 3 hours of E.T.(oddly my favorite Atari game). I spent over 150 bucks in getting the commodore with disc drive and flight simulatore, It burned up in one week too. =(
Anyway have you messed with assembly code yet?

I hate abbreviations... I learned to talk and write in English at school so that I could utilise it in pleasant conversation, whenever I get a text on my phone I'm always saddened by pointless letterless blathering from people who can't be bothered to add the extra letters to make a word. XD
Who hasn't messed with assembly? Don't expect anyone to actually write assembly code, that's a waste of time, but any decent programmer should know how to read it for debugging purposes because it can be quite helpful in finding out exactly where something goes wrong and why it does etc. Even then you don't need to check the assembly code for your normal debugging efforts.

The fun thing is how the oldest thread suddenly got popular! :P Im epic! ^^
I currently like Java best myself, but haven't done it in a year xP Working with C++ and C# at the moment.
I liked C++, it *almost* made sense. It was kind of like reading broken english, you just miss out a few words and it works.
I remember trying to crash the C64 tapes and hand writing down all the code and trying to figure it out. I made an ebook onto a tape when i was 8, it was cool, just copied my dinosaur books and had page turn using space bar.
I remember spending hours and hours writing lines of code out on it from a C64 game creation book that was supposed to result in some kind of 'treasure hunt' game. When I got to the end I attempted to load it only to find I'd mistyped one or two letters and all the coding was deleted.
Wasn't gonna try that again... XD
