If there's one thing ARR could do without imho it's gigantic anime swords, it just does not fit at all with the overall game.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahah i saw that and i was like WAIT hold the %$^&*(ing phone... was that what i think it was??? REWIND! oh yes. its a dragoon using a flipping glowing bustersword. and doing what is clearly omnislash V2

a more appropriate video.
The hard-on for FF7 is getting a little distracting. I really want this game to be its own thing, not a bunch of homages.
Who cares? If you haven't notice that FF14 lore isn't the only kind of lore in this game anymore.. it will home parts of the history of Final Fantasy... AS WANTED BY FANS... so Stop asking for things and then saying no to them.
Giant swords don't fit the theme of a Final Fantasy game? I don't get that impression at all. This is the same game with 40-year-old toddlers wearing subligars, moggles downing hard liquor, small children with horns, gigantic muscular white mages, and giant robot mechs. Yet when put together, Hydaelyn is an original world in itself with its own charms compared to the unoriginal, Tolkienesque settings from games like Dragon Age.
I doubt giant anime 2-handed swords will make this game's setting any more wonderfully ridiculous than it already is. Wonderfully ridiculous indeed...
I don't really have any issues with FF7 esque moves + weapons... i was thinking that maybe it was a soldier > dark knight using the buster sword and omnislash V2. Looking at that picture though it is definitely a Dragoon... Not sure what to make of it entirely but i'm not happy if thats what they think a Dragoon using a limit break should look like. Where are the dragon themes? Jumping or lances or something atleast relevant to Lancer/Dragoon itself. I guess it is a aerial attack so it has that for it...
As a Dragoon, I don't understand why we get a buster sword omnislash. I'm not hating, it just seems weird!
Ok there were sufficient FF allusions in Live Letters IV and V (i think those were the ones). They're really pounding those out.
Ultimately they do want to show off as much of the flashy FF-ness as possible during E3, but I think there's still enough for XIV to stand out as its own thing. It'd be a matter of playing the game and getting immersed in the unique world before you stumble on all of the fan service.
Aren't some of the other Limit Breaks from FFVII as well?
At first I thought it was weird that DRG got Omnislash, after all it's using a lance and not a sword normally..
But after some thinking..it makes sense. It's an aerical attack, involves lot of jumping around, etc.
There is no job more fitting to that than the dragoon.
Still...kind of weird to see a sword on a lance-using class.
dragoon fail, lance to buster sword lol.
Giant swords are fine. A Dragoon, whom specializes in spears, putting his spear away and using Omnislash -a sword technique- isn't fine. Make no sense at all.
I'm in the camp that thinks the sword looks fine. It's Final Fantasy but also, they reserved it for a Limit Break- ultimate player moves that are supposed to look extra big and flashy. If it were a regular weapon, I would be more inclined to say it's too big for the overall style of this game, but as a limit break? I'm fine with it.
However, I also raised an eyebrow at what looks to be a dragoon using omnislash. IMO dragoon should've gotten a "super" jump attack where they literally jump as high as the clouds then come crashing down in FF awesomeness. Call it "Highwind" or something to allude to Kain lol who's easily the most famous DRG in FF.
Even though it's never explicitly stated, VII's characters are modeled (in general) after the class system. Tifa is a monk, Aeris a white mage, Cait Sith is a puppet master, Yuffie a thief etc. In my mind, Cloud is a warrior, but more specifically the warrior in FFI or FFIII, where they generally use swords (Cid's the drg!). Interestingly, I think of FFXIV's warrior more closer to the Berkserker or Viking class even though in general warriors could equip axes anyway. But the Buster sword/Omnislash is probably FF's most famous SWORD attack, which makes me want it on PLD or DRK. Whichever the case, I def think it strange to see a DRG with it. Because of the conundrum of omnislash being a sword attack but warriors having axes in XIV, it feels like they just forced it onto a completely different class just because they needed something Cloud in the game and couldn't decide between warror and paladin.
i have a feeling that the buster sword is a cosmetic effect, that lets you swap your weapon for a great sword.... but based on the motions that drg was making, and the final downward slash.... that was without a doubt omnislash V2 from dissidia.... so im not quite sure what to make of it.
if u remember, every previous dragoon / lancer type weilder with exception of maybe freya from ff9 and khimari from ff10 have had a sword equippable at some point. ff4, ff3, ff6, ff11. oh cid didnt have a sword either. but still most lancer weilders over years have had option of a sword, maybe 50%
Adding in omnislash is cool, but it makes zero sense on a drg.
Whilst it does not make sense, the bottom line is; once I'm playing the game, it wont really bother me to warrant ranting over it (Unless every kid see's this and rolls DRG just for the animation ) - Maybe then it will.
It shouldnt be for dragoons... they can wait till they create new job who uses Great Sword and let him use this Limit break
That is a lance. It's just got a blade running almost its entire length!
I think maybe it's a limit break like that meteor animation and who ever launches the LB will be doing the omini slash, so in this video it just happened to be a dragoon??
As a Dragoon I thought it was weird too, chilling till we get more information
I think how Limit Breaks are set up at the moment is any job is able to activate the actual Limit Break, and whoever activates it has their set action for the Level of it. So no matter what that DRG would do "Omnislash". The MNK would do that like One-inch punch explosion. Etc. etc.
I do kind of recall them saying something about the difficulty of the dungeon determining what kind of Limit Breaks can be done? Maybe I missheard or my recollection is bad. However, maybe there are quite a few different ones for DRG and for some reason or another that was the one for that fight. I'm not sure though. It didn't really bother me. I'd figure if enough people were bothered by it they could change the animation to just be a glowing spear instead of a sword. Lol.
i saw that too at first i was like wait DRK in for release? then nonono rewind that was a gaebolg at first wasn't it? yup...still looks cool~ i'm asuming thats a limit break that dd's drg war can do. can't wait to find out.

I don't .dat mine, but someone who does may or may not have hinted that...
Omnislash is a level 2 limit break usable by any melee DPS class.
So both DRG and MNK use it.
Final Heaven is the level 3 melee DPS limit break, also usable by both DRG and MNK.
Last Bastion (the PLD one) is the level 3 Tank limit break usable by WAR and PLD.
^^What this person says. I mean, you'll never find a bigger fangirl of FFVII than me (I actually am in love with Sephiroth, which is kind of sick but it is what it is), but I'd really like the entities to stay apart. Why turn FFXIV into a friggin' nostalgia fan service?
I love how they are bringing elements from other FF games. It makes ARR feel even more epic.
The LB attack is determined by the party role, not by the class, that executes the LB.
It is known.
Not at all. Don't even think that we're reacting to "one ability". The game hasn't been announced yesterday ; it's been more than 2 years. They have already shoved a lot of fanservice in our throats, hence some of us feel like puking.Quote:
You saw one ability and all the sudden we are drowning? Don't you think you are being a bit over-dramatic?
And I insist on the "shove in our throat". They don't only add fanservice, they also exhibit it like it's the main dish and make sure we eat it.
I like the FF series partly because of the references from one opus to another, but these references are discreet so we can discover them (like a mini-game) and they hardly interfere with the game. Here, the fanservice has been on another level for months. And the sword in the trailer bring it up to another level : the devs just don't care anymore. They seem to have a quota of fanservice to fill, even if it means giving a sword to any class, after they've explained how much class identity and uniqueness were important to them (starting as soon as the first letter of the producer).
Which is actually a totally wrong assumption. One of the things I like about Final Fantasy is that, even though each game is it's own story in it's own universe, there are elements within each one that exist in all other Final Fantasies that define them as part of the continuum of the entity. Nevertheless, my point is that if you pull too much or too closely defined items or characters from other Final Fantasies into another, it can just make it seem like a cheesy fan service. For instance...
Chocobos exist in FFXIV:ARR - Okay
Having Barret show up in ARR as Minfilia's wife - Not okay.
You get where I'm going with this?
