Traditional FF Staples are what FFXIV is lacking (Magic Effect changes is a start...)

Well, the improvements to the size of magic effects is nice but what really needs to be done is improvements on the Ancient Spells...

I hope SE reads this experience because it's right from the heart...

I levelled my Conj all the way up with one goal in mind; see how awesome the ancient magic is going to be, and also look in ffxiv since we have such an amazing engine to work with, so if ffxi could make epic AM, then ffxiv could beat that by a huge margin.

Well, long story short, I didnt watch and spoiler AM videos on youtube and instead levelled myself to get to them all and I have never been so disappointed in my entire life.



Come on SE... REALLY?! What this game lacks is development on the staples of a Final Fantasy game. How could they ever let AM look like that is totally beside me, it was the biggest let-down I have ever experienced. Those animations are a complete disgrace and tweaking with how AM actually works wasn't a great move imo either.



I just think that for FFXIV they are trying to innovate on traditional values and staples to make them "better" or have a new-twist to them, however things like AM, certain monsters, traditional classes (I know they will be renamed soon), and even equipment names need to be kept traditional, because thats how they have always been, and thats what we have grown to love. That's a huge part of why FFXI is as awesome as it is.

I bought CE thinking I would end up coming into the game, and have goals along the way to max level: getting a chocobo license, unlocking some pretty imba abilities, airship pass, seeing summons/espers eventually.

I hope that the way SE is taking FFXIV will truly reflect this sooner or later, I have faith in this new dev team because they are in fact making it WAY better than it was... come on SE, you can do this, FFXIV is your oyster, and it's a hell of a beautiful looking one to develop in!

Yeah I agree, but like people say as much as one could complain about this, they are doing "groundwork" ... so I hope it's safe to say they are making the effects bigger in size so then the next step is to improve the animations, and rebalance effects (as it's going to be more eyecatching size-wise now)


But yeah that's kinda a sub-topic of my post...

I got a question. This acient magic is it really acient magic OR just using the same name as ffxi acient magic?

Never assume just cuz it flare/quake/burst etc that it is Acient magic. Holy was a massive summon in ff7 in ffxi it a spell used by mid level whm and pld.
I think ppl stuck in the past when it comes to those spells.

they're ancient magics but just the 1st tier

on the YG they have Flare II, Freeze II.... and maybe III in future

i'm more asking for detail like is the game labling them AM are the players.
FFXI did lable them AM it was in the spell description.
I hope that is more clear. Also why would acient magic have tiers? it it really was acient magic it be the strongest of them (currently).

So to added my question is it game labled or player labled. It its player labled then i'm going to laugh.

I don't see how it's player labeled... I mean it's called Flare etc... I'd be kinda choked if they tried to re-vamp things that much that they make totally new AM and slough off Flare, Tornado, Flood etc. as just strong spells...

also.. AM has tiers in FFXI ... >_>

And huh? As far as your Holy example goes, the norm for it was a spell since being called "fade" in FF1, and then since FF2 it became "holy" not a summon, Alexander is the summon you're talking about in ff7 which is the only holy elemental summon... and holy is in ff7's storyline as the ultimate white magic (white materia) if u pay attention lol?





But ANYWAYS back on topic... damn we need some over the top epic animations for these spells... they dont have any "wow" factor to them at all other than the damage which is hardly worth the mana cost.
