how come nobody is talking about the fact that SE snuck a scholar into the Desktop artwork they recently released?

sorry for being ill informed and extremely late >_> still. scholar is my nerd job. loved it in 11, still love it in 11, and will probably full time it in 14 if its even half as good.

Either SE is trolling us or it's going to be a somewhat surprise come release. They weren't very circumspect about it in that picture, as if thousands of eyes would miss something like that. But it hasn't been announced as a job as of yet. At least as far as I'm aware.

We're waiting on the answer at this point. It's clearly a Scholar outfit, looks to me to be a mix of FFXI SCH and FFIII SCH. You can't see it on the picture you showed there, but the Book has a face on it if you zoom in, so it may not be just a book she is holding. She has medals pinned on her chest, for military service?

There's been massive amounts of debated and arguments, each with good points on each side for it being SCH, and points for it being ACN.

Bottom line is we just don't know yet. I hope it IS SCH, because we need another healer job, and I loved it in XI =$ But there's still the possibility that it is just ACN.

I'm actually glad to see so many people deciding to not take a stance on this one. Usually there'll be a huge debate over the speculative evidence, and I'm usually able to suss out where it's headed (the old "Which mage becomes BLM" debate, the "is it a barcher" debate, etc.) but this one's just too close to call.

That's clearly Scholar's aesthetic, but in fantasy worlds, scholar and arcanist are very similar concepts - a gatherer of useful and sometimes secret knowledge. Between that and the book, there's just as good a case for SE wanting Arcanist front and center with Summoner for the release of the class/job as there is for there being a job we know nothing about coming from a class we've never heard of... unless it comes from Musketeer, which would just be great to watch unfold after the ARC > BRD incident ... or maybe they've even finally caved of class to job branching.

We're just going to have to wait until E3 and see what they've got up their sleeves. Too much in the air right now.

on the other hand theres just jobs on there and then it should be summoner but summoner is on there already...

As far as we know they have revealed the headgear for Arcanist since previous pics have not done so.
Other then that it is all just speculation/waiting for next live letter.

it wouldn't make a lick of logical sense to put arcanist up there in the photo, especially in an AF-esque armor set. the photo is clearly of jobs only. i think SE is going to announce it next week

I hope they do, but don't think they will reveal it there; not yet, unless it's scheduled for early release; but then they'd probably announced it already...

Yoshi already said he wants more magic jobs/classes before anything else.

Maybe arcanist as a class is different or powerful enough as a class to be included in its own right with Summoner?

We've already seen gear specific to the DoH and DoL classes. I don't think it's a stretch to say that they may have made class-specific armor.

I'm sorry you're feeling picked on, but for us who see Scholar job, well, speaking for myself at least, I keep thinking of the churchmen who wouldn't look through Galileo's telescope. True we don't have actual proof from SE, and could ultimately be wrong, but it seems so obvious.

I mean, whatever this class/job is, it's undeniably in Scholar's iconic AF (victorian-style cravat, coat with collar & back flap, dress shoes with bow and leather fringe, fingerless gloves, belt-cinched knee cuffs, not to mention the obvious mortarboard cap and book in-hand).

If it's not Scholar, then it's as good as SE saying they'll never add Scholar, at least not without completely redesigning its wardrobe to the point of being utterly unrecognizable.

FWIW, several of the mid-level class-specific gear shown in LIVE Letters can be seen on the background characters.

I personally feel that it's ARC. That SE was just showing off the fact that they have a new class coming as well as all the new jobs. All of these are Yoshi's creations. Not Tanaka's. ARC wasn't around for round 1, but it's coming round 2-type deal.

I never saw any official statement that this was "Jobs-only" just because the majority of these are jobs. I just F-n wish the dev's would clear this up already.

Besides, you all saw WAR af and it's deep resemblance to BST AF. Does that mean that WAR was bst? No. Does that mean we'll never see A REALM REBORN's version of BST? I doubt it.

Because everyone seems to forget that this is NOT FFXI....this is FFXIV.

It doesn't matter if it's Scholar or not. Yoshi-P already successfully trolled everyone.

I'm not going to lie, it might be the longest shot in history but I think it would be creative to see that side of Lominsa. Think about it - neat, military bliauds and dress pants (skirts for teh ladies, short because, you know, can't be trippin' over that thing on the battlefield /totallynotsuspicious) on the intellectual elite of Lominsa, who wield both tactical, battlefield manipulating magics on one hand and TP-boosting physical damage weaponskill dealing sidearm flintlocks with the other.

Chances are, those in the foreground are jobs (with the exception of the Arcanist "Below the Monk, above the Black Mage") and those in the background might simple be classes with various pieces of equipment on - it's nice to hope though.

However, that doesn't mean you should get excited for scholar coming out anytime soon, because it's not. Sometime down the road, I'm sure.

Intelligence runs on pretty much a bell curve, even when comparing the homeless to Fortune 500 CEOs. Lominsa wouldn't have lasted very long as a nation without some gifted people at the helm. Warships, navigation, unique architecture engineered to the island itself...

Either way, Summoner is on the cover of the CE and Scholar is not. I'd say that's a hint to not get our hopes up about it existing anytime soon, never mind being related at all to MSK, who is far and away more likely to be Corsair - a magical gambling job with an offhand flintlock for TP and WS.

scholar could be a rip off of arcanist since scholar is an enfeebling / debuffing job... which almost fits the arcanist role perfect. so there could be two paths to chose from.

arcanist is a pet class with debuff skills..

arcanist -> scholar (specialized into debuffs and enfeebling)
arcanist -> summoner (specialized in pets)

Another theory could be that they are giving arcanist a scholar looking outfit/hat, because scholar will never be implemented into the game.

Ahem, what makes me so happy is this sentence made by Fernehalwes. If it was Arcanist on this wallpaper, why being so secret about it ? We know about the Arcanist so there's no secret to keep to say that the elezen with the book is Arcanist. But no, Fernehalwes remained very evasive.

I really think it's Scholar (and hope so :p)

i have a feeling we get 2 new classes at realse... 1) Summoner 2) Scholar.

Don't forget about this from February.

I'm still on the fence, not sure what to believe. Just so long as WHM stays relevant, I'll be happy.
